Future stocking stuffer?
8Do you guys take buying tips? If so I suggest the buying team hit up Funko. Perhaps you can get some stuff on the cheap and become the next TrackeR. Or maybe you can convince them to pay Meh to take the excess inventory off their hands? If you’re successful I would like a finders payment of one Irk. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/funko-pop-30-million-inventory-collectibles/

This upsets me quite a bit because it’s yet another example of a large company choosing to literally destroy unsold merchandise (that they themselves can’t move) instead of donating or giving it away. I sure hope ‘destroying’ means recycling. I’m sure Meh could offload quite a few of them!
@PooltoyWolf Many of us in the convention dealer business have been expecting and hoping for Funko to crash and burn for quite a while, and there may even be some quiet jubilation over the news. For quite a few years, we’ve been saying that they were oversaturating their market. The fans’ willingness to maintain enthusiasm in the face of a relentless torrent of new designs of questionable interest is not unlimited, and it was bound to catch up with them sooner or later. Personally, I’m surprised it took this long.
Plus, candidly, those things were fugly from day one.
@werehatrack I completely agree with you here. They never did anything at all for me (most times, they butchered classic characters’ appearances, if I’m speaking honestly) and I felt they crowded out better merchandise on store shelves. I grew tired of seeing the eponymous Funko POP wall in every store. I just wish they’d figure out a less wasteful method of getting rid of what they can’t sell.
@PooltoyWolf @werehatrack The only Funkos that interested me were the ones that didn’t look like Funkos.
Princess Butt Stallion.
Alien Queen
The rest are completely interchangeable, and nearly indistinguishable.
@blaineg @werehatrack The single one I have was gifted to me for Christmas one year, heh. (“Imaginaaaaaation” rainbow SpongeBob)
@blaineg @PooltoyWolf I inherited exactly one (literally) and gave it away to a friend who actually wanted it, just as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
@blaineg @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
And that one works because he’s already all big square head and tiny body!
@blaineg @Kyeh @werehatrack Though the black eyes are still kind of unnerving!
A modest proposal.
@blaineg Got a laugh from me.
@blaineg I think I’d prefer onions and carrots.
@blaineg There’s plenty of microplastics in my stew already.
I hope the dump them in the same landfill as the Atari E.T. cartridges. Imagining the utter confusion and wild theories of future archeologists when they dig up layers upon layers of pop culture detritus…
