Each year (maybe multiple times a year?), a group gets together and rides up the river catching the carp out of the air with hoop nets. The engines of the boats make the carp jump and the fishermen attempt to catch them from the air. All of the carp caught during the event are turned into animal feed of some sort, and some are consumed by the fishermen themselves.
No one is entirely certain why the fish jump. One theory is that the first fish released into the waters was particularly skittish. Those behaviors passed down from one generation to the next and so-on. Fast-forward to mass population and here we are.

Never got the “big prize” but never had reason for disappointment either. Every fuko and BOC always had some swag and something stupid, but also at least one item of enough value to make it worthwhile.
Got mine - 9x9x9 in / 2.2 lbs is a lie. more like 16x16x24, and 30 lbs. The worst issue was the sand-weighted porcelain bookends (not in the pictures below) that were tossed into the large box with no protection whatsoever. On arrival sand and porcelain chips and shards were just about everywhere - still a tremendous quantity of ‘stuff’ and am very happy with the box otherwise.
@Amroth The 2.2 lbs is not a lie. It’s a placeholder weight that everyone gets on their Fukos. It usually updates to the real weight/box size later in the journey.

@stuntdriver your dog looks a lot like our rescue dog, Roux. Do you know what breed s/he is? We’ve pinned Roux as a black mouth cur and pit mix, but that’s just guesswork.

He mom is a pure bred Mastiff and dad a Mastador (50/50) she has the high energy of the lab for sure and leans more to there body type but took on the markings and face of the Mastiff with not so big of would. We love her!!

LOL, dog showed up long before… Funny story though… found her online in Menomonie, we live in Iron Mountain, MI so thought that wasn’t so bad… well day before we were to pick her up I learned that I should pay better attention as it was Menominee, MN 300 miles vs. 75.
