From Prince X
5Got this today from Prince X, who has been out of town for several weeks doing his Princely duties helping his subjects. He sent and eail that said:
"I got home late last night after my 7 hour drive. I have enjoyed spending my day with the children & we went to the farmers market’s and downtown shopping at thrift stores. When we got home we had a nice dinner and opened up my wonderful box of goodies! I had my daughter take pictures of the unboxing experience.
Thank you all so much! What a nice thing to come home to & close out the evening with. So many thoughtful gifts & wonderful notes & cards! Really a beautiful gesture."

I’m tired. Meant to say “sent an email” not “and eail” - I’d blame @riotdemon but I see I still have the goat icon… heck I’ll blame her anyway as we all know what will happen very soon
@Kidsandliz pfft, I refuse to take the blame until I get the icon. I haven’t felt any changes yet.
@RiotDemon I’ll wait. It will be one of your first blames.
@Kidsandliz
/giphy tick tock
@RiotDemon And now it is your turn. I see the goat icon has been transferred. Blame! (hehehe)
Someone - now I can’t find the email (although I didn’t delete it) to remember who so please post if this was you - did something nifty with money and asked me to post it because they forgot to take a picture. (@snapster)
Whoever did it- I like it!
The reveal both of Prince X and what his loyal subjects sent him as a thank you
@Kidsandliz
It’s all except stuff. And Prince X is the real treasure there.
@f00l “except” stuff? Yes he was/is incredibly generous. Sent out like 20 of these. He does have one he knows he still has to send to someone. He promised me it will be sent but he has been out of town for two+ weeks and only got home yesterday.
@Kidsandliz I think she meant exceptional.
@jbartus
Swipe keyboard and I are still at odds.
And I still reject proofreading, due to some enormous character flaw.
I was supposed to be “exceptional”.
@f00l
I know of a few keyboards which you may find useful.
@mflassy
I’m supposed to only use the keyboards approved by the admins.
@f00l you’re always exceptional.
Is that Prince “Eks” or Prince “Ten”?
@SSteve Not sure what your joke? is about, but just in case you missed it Nigerian Prince X gave away about 20 bracelets he had made with me as his intermediary in all of this (via mehrican exchange 6 originally, then a separate thread). Somewhere or other there is a reveal thread of people showing them off. This is the box of stuff a bunch of them got him as a thank you that I then sent on.
@Kidsandliz it’s an iPhone X (or old OS joke.
@djslack Your probably right and I’m probably wrong but I took it as the “X” being sounded out and reference to the Roman numeral.
@WTFsunshine we’re both right, it’s the same thing. I also see my “X)” got eaten by the emoji monster.
I call him X as in Malcolm, or marks the spot, as X is a placeholder that could be any name.
@djslack Oh… OK
@djslack Damn emoji monster! That’s just rude.
Oh and he says he still knows he owes someone a bracelet. He said he’d mail it soon. (Sorry I don’t know whom or I’d flag you here).
I’m truely greatful to the people who participated in putting such a wonderful thank you box together. It obviously put a big smile on his face and hopefully his family as well. He deserved a huge thank you for making, and sending out, all of those gorgeous bracelets without expecting anything in return. I’m sure he thought it ended with his joy of watching the bracelet reveal thread and the marriage proposal/acceptance thread. I now have a smile on my face for the generosity of the people who sent Kidsandliz items for box.
@WTFsunshine
I am opposed to broadcasting threads.
Because a normal thread will rise to the top when it updates asked the font will show dark if there are unread posts.
But with a broadcast thread, the thread title does not become bolded or dark when new posts are made. So people don’t realize the thread is updated, and never look.
It’s like wearing an “Ignore Me” sign that works.
If they would fix the broadcasted threads to get bolded or darkened for new entries, then it would be great.
@WTFsunshine The thank you box wouldn’t have happened if people hadn’t sent such nice stuff and fortunately, for me, some money for postage because that thing got BIG and was expensive to send (yes it is all covered and the remaining few postage bucks I am using to send the goat contest give away box since it didn’t seem right to keep postage money). It was incredibly tightly packed. No TX air needed in there to take up space despite having some sitting around the house. The thanks really should go to all the folks who sent such nice stuff, making this box such a success.
For those of you who sent stuff I made sure a tag was on each item with the meh name of the person who sent it (that is mostly, but not exclusively, what all those little papers are on everything - the rest are the slips that people sent that I made sure was attached to the correct item).
The only warning he had he was getting something was on the day before the delivery day of the box I sent him a message that said, “Tomorrow you need to be sure someone checks your front porch as your loyal subjects have been up to no good.”. Wanted to make sure it didn’t sit there all day with kids at school and people at work - or at least his family knew to expect a box.
For those of you who didn’t follow the early threads:
All of this started because someone (I forget whom) got one in the mehrican exchange 6 and @barney gave him a marriage proposal to try to get one.
Several commented they’d buy one if he sold them. He then contacted me, because I was running the exchange, and said he’d make a few for people and asked me if I’d facilitate it as he wanted to keep who he was and his email, address, etc. private. Thus the story of Nigerian Prince X was born. He let me know he enjoyed reading the threads.
His original offer to make 5 more of them (or whatever it was, and offered to give me one of each, but I told him I don’t wear bracelets can we pass them on to those who missed the boat) and that offer eventually grew to 20 as the response kept growing. He expected nothing in return. I forwarded all thank you emails people sent to him. As what he was doing kept growing I thought it would be nice if we surprised him with a thank you box for his generosity, a number of recipients ran with it… and the result is what is seen on this thread. Some of the photos are hard to see, and I don’t think everything got into the photos (for example the person who sent the red bag, I put inside of that the rest of the stuff you sent and that can only be seen on his lap, not held up).
Anyway thank you all for making this a success. And @snapster, thanks for deciding a forum that makes things like this possible, was/is important enough to have employees to nurture.
Meant the last sentence to say “to have employees to nurture it”.
@Kidsandliz Yep, I thought I said a big thank you to the senders, their generosity was overwhelming!
@f00l I was unaware of the difference between a thread vs. a broadcast. Now I know.
@WTFsunshine You did … I was just responding to what you said directed to me because they are the ones who make this so nice!
@Kidsandliz Okay good! I was worried that I didn’t express my feelings correctly and that I might have offended some people. I apparently have done that in the past. With that said I should have typed it sooner: my apology to @barney about getting a bit (or actually a lot) out of control with my postings and pictures of all the different ways that the impending nuptials could go. I am truly sorry if I offended you. I have nothing but love for you.
@WTFsunshine Nah, you did nothing wrong. It was fun.
@Kidsandliz thanks for doing this for us all — you are the best ! Thanks again to Prince X for the beautiful bracelet - I will always remember his kindness!
