@Pantheist My tentative plan is to travel north on Monday, but I’m super scared about the impending traffic… how bad could it be driving a normal 2 1/2 hour drive the morning of the eclipse?
@Yoda_Daenerys Look at that math!! But it’s a 3 hour drive (after I already drove 2 hours the night before…). According to your graph, I should plan on being there at least an hour early, but still planning on an extra 30-60 minutes?
@luvche21 We’re making the bulk of our drive north beforehand, and planning on breaking camp as early as possible for the normally ~1.5 hour drive north to the center of the path Monday morning. I’d rather be a few hours early and have to fiddle around than to have traveled 10+ hours to miss it stuck in traffic and then have to turn around and go home.
@luvche21 i was hoping someone would call out the logarithmic scale
you can add a 2- in the chart’s title and before all the x axis values and i think you’re good to go

@OldCatLady I have these. When I walked out of the post office, they all reacted. When I hold the sheet in my hand, half of them react. If I breathe in their general direction, they react.
@luvche21 Only 71% or so for me. Either way, I’ve heard it’s a different ballgame if you’re in the totality. Never seen more than a partial. Maybe April 8, 2024.
Oh life, it’s bigger
It’s bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up
That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
Every whisper
Of every waking hour
I’m choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this, the hint of the century
Consider this, the slip
That brought me to my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies come
Flailing around
Now I’ve said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try
That was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a dream, dream
I’ve been thinking about driving south to see it. But then I think about being stopped in the middle of the largest traffic jam that the world has seen, having to abandon my car, accidentally walking the wrong direction, getting lost in the mountains, scrounging for berries…
I’ll be in the air-conditioned comfort of my car during the homeward commute! Chillin’ to some great eclipse tunes in the midst of the traffic jam, no doubt.
@djslack They probably have not, actually I think Eclipse got bought out by Autocrat. It’s really a very small regional market. I was staying in Foxboro (20mi from the RI border) and went to a Stop and Shop to buy coffee syrup and they had no idea what I was talking about, I had to drive to Pawtucket to get some. Since Salty Brine went off the air, I think bad parenting is the only thing that keeps this stuff on the shelves.
@Pantheist I usually throw in a couple of bottles for the grand kids when I make an order. It’s one of those things anyone who’s not a Rhode Islander will never think about though. There is an Amazon Prime supplier though so shipping is free.
@f00l It’s kind of like Seltzer flavors but you add it to milk instead of seltzer water. Actually it’s probably exactly like sweetened cold brew concentrate. Eclipse also sold a line of seltzer flavors when I was a whippersnapper.

@luvche21 Honestly, I have no idea. I am jealous that you’re less than a day’s drive though.
@luvche21

@luvche21 lol, i missed the first 2 in " 2 1/2"
@Yoda_Daenerys Well, you did all that math so it still counts for something!
@djslack We’re thinking about the same too. We’d have to leave fairly early in the morning to beat most of the traffic though…

Well, if I don’t move (or die) in the next 28 years, I’ll actually see a total eclipse.
@RiotDemon
How crowded will Disney World be for that?
(Assuming that Florida is still above water and that you don’t have a simultaneous hurricane or something.)
/image “Disney World”
@RiotDemon -or go blind- just sayin’
@PhysAssist thanks. Forgot about that.

Maybe Florida is too hot? Just guessing.
@RiotDemon
yes.
@Pantheist
Sorry. Florida is bizarre and weird and awesome.
Someday all of Florida may be underwater. But it will still be bizarre and weird and awesome.
@RiotDemon Maybe you’re just hot stuff.
@f00l That’s sure going to make John Pennekamp Park a lot bigger.
How much of the eclipse will you see? http://time.com/4882923/total-solar-eclipse-map-places-view/
@OldCatLady Neat! I’ll have to peek.
@Pantheist 89.45% at home, but I’m hopefully driving 3 1/2 hours to see the full eclipse if I can make that work!
@luvche21 Only 71% or so for me. Either way, I’ve heard it’s a different ballgame if you’re in the totality. Never seen more than a partial. Maybe April 8, 2024.
@Pantheist
And me. Gotta stick around that long.
Intend to stick around much much much longer.
Intend to be a Right Old Cuss someday.
@f00l Intend to be?
@cranky1950
FU.
Right Older Cuss then.
Besides, if 1950 means what I think it may mean, I’m way less Cranky than your and always will be.
Practically a toddler.

I have NO idea what it is, it’s the first thing that came up in Google Images!
@OldCatLady Creator of Sacred Pleasure. Way too afraid to giphy that.
I’ve been thinking about driving south to see it. But then I think about being stopped in the middle of the largest traffic jam that the world has seen, having to abandon my car, accidentally walking the wrong direction, getting lost in the mountains, scrounging for berries…
It’s starting to sound like a good idea.
@InnocuousFarmer You’ll be fine, the bears are already fat in August. The deer ticks, however, are full of Lyme disease. Just ask @lizandkids.
@OldCatLady
It’s the undomesticated traffic jams I fear.
Besides, 7 years and an eclipse happens right on top of me.
I intend to be a total PITA to the entire universe for the the whole of the next 7 years. Because I have to wait.

I’m in a great spot. I’ll open my back door and walk outside. Pretty excited.
I’ll be in the air-conditioned comfort of my car during the homeward commute! Chillin’ to some great eclipse tunes in the midst of the traffic jam, no doubt.
@sohmageek His grandma died because he was singing that crappy song? Is that a kids’ movie?

@stitch loves it!

@cranky1950 Not the most insightful review I’ve seen. 6 minutes to say “delicious”?
Although coffee syrup does sound interesting to try. And hopefully they have tied into this month’s events for their marketing.

@cranky1950 Apparently you can get it online from target if you’re already buying something else there. Amazon sells it too, but the shipping makes cost twice as much.
edit: walmart also sells it online.
@cranky1950 My chances of finding some in the deep South are pretty slim, then.
I grew up on coffee milk, but it was always made with regular coffee from my grandmother’s percolator. And way too much sugar. Those were good times.
@Pantheist I usually throw in a couple of bottles for the grand kids when I make an order. It’s one of those things anyone who’s not a Rhode Islander will never think about though. There is an Amazon Prime supplier though so shipping is free.
@cranky1950 Ah, didn’t notice that one. Even better then.
@cranky1950
What is coffee syrup?
@f00l Think Hershey’s syrup, but coffee instead of chocolate flavor.
@djslack
Sweetened, I take it.
@f00l See
@f00l It’s kind of like Seltzer flavors but you add it to milk instead of seltzer water. Actually it’s probably exactly like sweetened cold brew concentrate. Eclipse also sold a line of seltzer flavors when I was a whippersnapper.

or

@f00l (i think I’m gonna miss the damn eclipse)

The coolest eclipse site I’ve found is my daughter’s yard. If all goes as planned, we’ll all sit out there.
Looks Like I’ll be in the path of totality for both the 2024, and 2099 eclipses. their paths “cross” right near my city.

Apologies if its already posted but this website is pretty great:
