so, this year russian river brewery is releasing pliny the younger in bottles, so i drove 3-1/2 hours, and waited in line for 4 hours, and here is my prize…
@stolicat@zinimusprime I’ve never had the opportunity to try it. I once tried to make a Pliny clone recipe but it didn’t turn out well - there were so many hops that it clogged up the brewing equipment.
Cool.
We’ve been to Russian River Brewery, tried lots of beer & ate lunch there. Great place. Also took some Pliny the Elder home.
I’d sure love to try one of the Youngers!!
@daveinwarsh yes! great beer and good food ! we got a 12 pack of elder to go too…! the younger was great, glad i got to try it, and take a few home, don’t think i would wait in line again that long… i think we had a fairly short wait compared to some though…

I had it for the first time yesterday. They had it on tap at a local bar and heavily promoted it. Shockingly, there was maybe 20 of us waiting in line when they opened. I was shocked when I saw on Instagram they still had some left.
Can’t say that I have had the chance to try that but my new favorite ‘experience’ is the Tower Tap Room in Montgomery.
It’s a self-pour establishment, sort of like a beer ATM. You provide a CC and they give you a card that will allow you to activate the taps. As you pour it keeps up with what you have poured, how much it costs (from about $ 0.45 to $0.80 or so an oz) and will cut you off if you pour too much in too short a time. You have to go to the desk to get checked out to be sure you are still OK to be drinking. It factors in your food purchases, but not your size…
The screen over each set of 3 taps gives more info on the beers in that group such as who makes it, tasting/flavor notes, ABV, IBU etc.
Fun place…
@kizen99 yeah, and while you are here you can check out Chattabrewchee in West Point GA.
That was the first Pour-Your-Own I had ever encountered and is a craft brewer as well. Owned by a military couple (she is still active duty with the JAG, he is a retired army Lt Colonel) They do the “beer ATM” like I mentioned above but on a smaller scale (though with their own beers). They don’t do food, but you are welcome to bring your own from outside. Fun place and cool that they are military… a big plus in this area with Ft Benning, Maxwell AFB, and Warner Robbins AFB in the vicinity.
BTW Chattabrewchee is a play on Chattahoochee, the name of the river that is the border between GA and AL and is minutes away from their doorstep.
Got in queue last year to get a ticket to have a glass at a local watering hole - “Tony’s Darts Away.” Younger was indeed yummy; however, I have a steady supply of Elder so I am not sure younger was worth the hassle… Still good though. On second thought, all of the pomp and circumstance may have added to the pleasure? Ah the life of a beer enthusiast.
What kind of beer is it?
@zinimusprime hop-heavy, triple IPA, high alcohol content, only available 2 weeks out of the year. It’s a cult thing around here …

Four bottles? Was that the max you could get?
@RiotDemon they look like 22 ouncers though I think?
@moonhat @RiotDemon 17.25 ozs
@RiotDemon 2 bottles per person per day (wife doesn’t drink beer, brought her along for the extra 2…!)
Stand in line for 4 hours for 4 bottles of beer? Pfft.

@therealjrn No, he said beer, not hop-flavored soda.
@macromeh @therealjrn I call it water with a twist of beer…
Nice! I’m awaiting my invite to come over.
Never had a beer that was worth more than 30 minutes of driving. IPAs are normally only worth about 3 minutes of driving. 7 minutes if free.
DON’T DROP IT!
@sammydog01 Is it bad that I actually lol’d at that?
@mehcuda67 @sammydog01 I hope not, I chortled
@enville @mehcuda67 @sammydog01 I must confess, I sniggered a little bit.

@bullrocky Nice. It’s still on my Untappd ‘bucket list’.

Fun place…
@chienfou I now have one reason to visit Alabama, that looks amazing.
@kizen99 yeah, and while you are here you can check out Chattabrewchee in West Point GA.

Oh wait… I did get to do a ‘pour-your-own’ at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin… very yummy!
Multi-IPA brews are for a very special breed of beer nerd - masochist.
@compunaut I want to try Younger to see what the fuss is about. If I dislike it (as I have almost every IPA) I will then justify never going back.

@connorbush
Love this from NYC
tl;dr: some guy came out with a White Claw and a Glock to troll craft-beer-line-waiters
