So cute!!! I love how happy it looks!
@Felton10, @Cengland0 - have you seen this yet?
@Kyeh Snowflake used to dance to Eddie Money’s “Take me home tonight” but his screeching and biting is what did him in.
Very cute. I had a friend with a cockatoo that would dance. My bird is stupid and doesn’t talk, dance, or sing.
I came across this video yesterday & thought you bird aficionados would appreciate it. I fell in love with this kooky character in less than 4 mins!
@ircon96 Already saw that video on youtube. Made me sad as snowflake had big personality but just too many downsides. Princess our new bird is a cutie-but a clump.
Last time I checked Snowflake had not been adopted. Am going over to the bird sanctuary in the near future to take over $ 100 worth of large toys I had bought for Snowflake and tell them these are for him to destroy. He used to go through a $15 toy in about two days. Princess pays minimal attention to toys and hers last for weeks.
Not sure if rescue dogs are the same way, but is obviously rescue birds have a very strong imprint from their previous owner probably given how long they live and were with them.
We doubt that Princess ever came out or was let out of the cage-her cage doors are open all day as they were for Snowflake and Walter but she does show some interest in being out of the cage although not for long periods. Also when out of the cage, when surprised, she kind of flutters to the ground so I doubt she ever learned to fly even though her wings are not clipped.
Think previous owners have more of an impact on the bird than do the type of species.
@ircon96 That crazy bird got really lucky to have been rescued by them! What a character! I love the name Cumulus.
@Felton10 It’s so sad, but now she has you, so hopefully, with time, she’ll come out of her shell little by little. I’ve found, with the dogs I’ve rescued, that some take longer than others to learn they can trust you & to adjust to new situations. I’m pulling for all of you!
@Kyeh I thought the same thing about the name, although, considering his “extra” personality, maybe cumulonimbus would have been more fitting!
@CharlieDoggo @ircon96 Both of those videos were so cute!! They are such cool birds!
I’ve always wanted have a bird…however, my cats would not approve, lol! And I’d be terrified that I wouldn’t know if I was taking care of it properly and keeping it happy. It seems like that can be difficult. Plus, at my age it would far out live me and I don’t know if my kids would want to inherit it.
I’ll stick to cute videos of other people’s birds.
@k4evryng
oh, you might be surprised…
@k4evryng Buying our first birds was a spur of the moment decision like we do everything-bought 2 parakeets at Woolworth and brought them home in a box that looked like donut holes. Promptly took them in the basement and let them out figuring I wouldn’t be liked to be confined in a cage either (same philosophy I’ve followed in my almost 40 years of bird ownership-if I were a bird what would I like). Took me over an hour to catch them as I had no idea how to do that.
Start with parakeets and go from there. Using common sense with a little bit of help from experienced creature owners and you can never go wrong. If it is as exciting and interesting as you imagined, you can go to bigger birds from there. There are plenty of birds at rescues looking for good homes-the average parrot has 3 owners during its lifetime.
@chienfou Good one! I walked right into that!
I stand corrected! My cats would very likely approve. A little too much I’m afraid…
@chienfou @k4evryng Some years ago (different cats long dead) I came home to find that a crow? raven? had come down the chimney. It was flying low to the ground in the living room with the smaller of my two cats gently holding on to his wing by her mouth. She was airborne by about 6-10" as he went back and forth and wouldn’t let go. That bird was as big as the cats. The other cat was watching intently. I liberated him. The cats then sat for hours staring at the fire place wondering when their next bird toy would appear.
@Kidsandliz oh my gosh! That is a great story!
You say “gently” but is there any chance your cat would have disagreed and corrected it to “holding on for dear life”? You would easily have won on America’s Funniest Videos if you had caught that on camera!
@k4evryng There was no blood on the crow wing so I presumed holding on gently in the sense of not wanting to damage the toy. Had to hold on tight enough to be airborne though.
It would have been a cool video… but no cell phones back then for a quick video and I was more concerned how to catch the bird, make sure it wasn’t hurt and getting it out of the house safely.
