I bought a similar one off Meh a couple of years ago and still use it and love it. I can’t speak for this product specifically, but the vacuum sealer is one of my favorite Meh purchases ever.
@Office_Zombie Same here, love my sealer, don’t need a new one. My most recent vacuum sealing discovery: cough drops. I only need cough drops during certain times of the year, but by the time I need them again they have become a sticky melty mess. Vacuum sealing completely solves this.
@Office_Zombie@SnakeJG that’s a cool hack (cough drops)
I use mine to sous vide all the time, and also vac-pak spices like the chipotles I make in the smoker.
@Office_Zombie Meh must be were I got my current sealer. I don’t remember for sure. I don’t use it often anymore. In a different life I used another refurb from Woot that I wore out in a couple years.
Foodsavers are available at every thrift shop I’ve seen, and they sell for about $10. ALDI sells a new vacuum sealer with bags for under $30 from time to time, and theirs have (typically) a 1 or 3-year warranty. Either you overpaid for these, or you’re pricing them too high. Sorry, Meh, your crap is just getting worse. Is this a sign? (/Foxworthy/)
@cbl_wv@Joedetroit Agree, I have no beef with refurbs. I think the one I own is a refurb. But if you’re stressing over the difference between $10 and $30, I do assume you’d be better off burning a ten dollar bill for warmth.
@CatFriend FWIW mine has been a real work horse… I use it often and have gone thru a couple of hundred feet of vac bags. AND, when I did have a problem with one, the warranty coverage and exchange process was excellent!
@CatFriend@chienfou Weird. In a way I’ve always trusted refurbs more than new since they went back to wherever and got fixed. I’ve never had any problems with refurbs.
@CatFriend@chienfou@Gypsigirl213
I’ve never had any good luck with refurbs, the single exception being a simple crock pot with a dial control that I ultimately chucked when the liner cracked.
So, even in that one, I had bad luck, but I’m not attributing that misfortune to it being refurbished.
Every other refurb I’ve bought has had something wrong with it that got overlooked during the repair process, and either showed up after the warranty period, or the limited warranty didn’t cover it.
@CatFriend@chienfou@Gypsigirl213 I have never had a bad experience with refurbs, or even used, from amazon warehouse or woot. At least in theory, someone was made responsible for inspecting them and making them right. Not necessarily the case with new items in this “throw 'em out the factory door” world we live in. I still haven’t found the minor cosmetic blemish on my “Used – very good” Echo Sub from woot. They should have called it “Like new.”
@CatFriend@chienfou@ThunderChicken Same. That’s why I trust them a little more, they’ve had more careful examination than the ‘throw ‘em out the door’ variety as you said.
Maybe you get what you think you’ll get out of them. I expect greatness, I get greatness, you expect problems, you get problems. Maybe our thoughts are shaping our realities?! This went meta fast.
@chienfou@Gypsigirl213@Narwalt@Joedetroit@ThunderChicken I think my main trouble with refurbs is that you don’t know if you’re getting new parts or used parts that “passed testing”. Then, even if all of the electronics and mechanical parts get replaced, you are still getting some used parts, and you never know what the prior owner might have done to them. And you know there are some sick f***s out there who would do sick s*** just for giggles.
You list there’s a one year warranty, but when clicking on the link I don’t see anywhere that it says there’s a one year warranty.
Also is there a warranty on refurbished products like this?
@myi meh has always been really good for things like warranties. I had an issue with a different product that the manufacturer wouldn’t cover, so meh just sent me a replacement.
If the only thing stopping you is the warranty, I would trust meh to honor it even if the manufacturer doesn’t.
Not sure you will see this so far down the road, but does this mean Meh will do something for me if FoodSaver does not? We were out of our home for some time, and now that we are back I went to use it and it was DOA. FoodSaver says it’s out of warranty (4 months does not equal one year to me).
I have a regular model, not this upright version. Can anyone with the upright version (or better, both) comment on if it is worth the switch? I keep mine stored above a cabinet, so permanent counter space is not an issue. Is it easier to line up or hold while sealing?
@mike808 I have both and I find the regular model is much easier then the upright model. The upright ones have a sliding door that is much harder to line up and seal, especially if the bag you are using is a tiny bit smaller then it should be. Upright one now lives in the basement as a back in-case my main one dies.
Folks are referencing these “wearing out”. How does one tell? Is it sudden or do you have to remember that it’s not as good as it used to be (according to one’s personal subjective scale of suckitude)?
@mike808 I have an older upright one. The suck&seal function doesn’t work anymore - it’ll suck for 15 mins without flipping it over to the seal part. But, I can override with the buttons, so it’s more me just watching it until I’m happy, then pressing the seal.
If you’re a smoker (not that kind…), it’s an absolute must - my smoked meats in the freezer under vac reheat well. Pulled pork, packed up in 1lb bags is a quick mid-week dinner
@ManBehindPlan@mike808 I found that if I put a little pressure on the top of mine I could get it to cycle correctly. I then took out the foam, cleaned and flipped it and it seems to be doing better. The new models have a ‘park’ lock so you don’t store the foam compressed which I think helps
@chienfou@ManBehindPlan That sounds right. It sucks until it hits its max vacuum, and then seals. But if the foam doesn’t seal around the bag and air is constantly leaking in, it won’t ever hit the max vacuum and never turns off to trigger the seal.
I was just wondering how to know when it is time for a replacement. So far, not yet.
Also good tip to check and “refresh” the foam seal if possible to stretch the life if you need to.
I would buy one of these or a similar one, except my freezer is so small that I can’t justify taking up the space to store food longer term. So meh, please offer up a freezer soon.
I live in a green state and use a foodsaver with a jar attach to seal cannabis in 1l jars. keeps it very fresh. I don’t find much support for vaccum sealing buds in bags, as it crushes the flowers flat. I also use for freezing and sous vide…thinking on this one.
We purchased this last time it was offered and it has more than paid for itself. Works quite well. Just don’t buy the recommended sealing bags/plastic roll - they’re crazy expensive and the off brand works just as well.
I just tried to fix our other food saver by pulling out the seals, just to find out the bottom one wasn’t suppose to come out… I wondered why it was hard as hell to get out… oh well, I got another one coming now… And at a great price!!!
My wife is happy with me once again!
Thanks Meh!
My daughter just told me that she want’s a vacuum sealer for Christmas. I jokingly asked her if a refurb would be OK because it’s on meh today. She said “For $34? Hell yeah.” I think my daughter is destined to be a mehtizen.
So I bought this, and it doesnt suck. Meaning it doesnt suck the air out of the bag. Idk this one seems to be defective unless I’m retarded and am using it wrong
@bagingospringo have you tried moving the end of the bag? They can be a little finicky if the bag isn’t in the right place. If you bend it into the chamber a little that usually works. Does it try to heat seal the end still?
@bagingospringo@Link991 I’ve had the same issue with a different sealer. I think it was the cheaper bag roll I bought. The ones that came with the machine had a ridges on both sides. The cheaper ones only had bumps on one side. Also make sure there is no food or especially moisture in the opening.
@bagingospringo@Link991@ybmuG Try the foodsaver customer service. I had an issue with mine after about a year and they were great… even replaced it under warrantee…
I think these units are defective. I bought this and it only sucks, it doesn’t seal. Then as soon as you turn it on, it starts sucking right away. You can’t get it to do anything unless you turn unplug it. Hitting the on/off button does nothing. I’ve tried meh customer support to no avail. I guess I’ll try foodsaver. I’m disappointed.

Real subtle Meh click face this time …
@stolicat Oooh, it is. I missed that it was vacuum wrapped until I saw this.
Your specs are slightly contradictory, condition states new when it’s factory refurb.
@darkzrobe plus it’s actually $76 on amazon and not $80
This baby sucks until there is nothing left to give!
My lips are already sealed.

@cbl_wv Do. Not. Buy. Used. Vacuum. Sealers.
New for under $30, yeah. The Foodsaver brand tends to sell at an undeserved premium.
@cbl_wv @whogots $10 bucks is hardly a risk I suppose but these things do wear out. A refurb is likely just returns that may or may not be used.
@cbl_wv @Joedetroit Agree, I have no beef with refurbs. I think the one I own is a refurb. But if you’re stressing over the difference between $10 and $30, I do assume you’d be better off burning a ten dollar bill for warmth.
@cbl_wv @Joedetroit This is Vimes Boot Theory stuff.
Meh, why do you only sell refurbs of these? I don’t trust them. Sell me a NEW one (not a new refurb, of course).
@CatFriend FWIW mine has been a real work horse… I use it often and have gone thru a couple of hundred feet of vac bags. AND, when I did have a problem with one, the warranty coverage and exchange process was excellent!
@chienfou Appreciate the info. I’m just weird . . . about refurbs I mean. I’ve just never trusted rebuilds of anything, and prefer to buy new.
@CatFriend @chienfou Weird. In a way I’ve always trusted refurbs more than new since they went back to wherever and got fixed. I’ve never had any problems with refurbs.

@CatFriend I’ve one of the lucky one’s with refurbs. I once got a CPU heatsink & fan that was broken but the seller sent me another, np.

Two sucky things two days in a row.
Used. Ewww. Not!
@rustyh3 maybe, maybe not… Things that get opened and returned to the store end up getting refurbed a lot of times, whether they ever got used or not.
You Hippies and your dope…
@Bumplepimp Exactly. That explains why there are so many of these being purchased in the states where it has been decriminalized.
Scored this exact model at the thrift shop a couple of years ago. Works great.
What’s the most recent item that’s sold out here? Or even just kicked in the, “Sales frozen until eight am Eastern”?
@stinks I forget exactly what it was, but it was just a couple days ago.
This may be a game changer for some people. I feel it is my civic duty to inform you that this also re-seals potato chip bags.
@hartba thanks for that!!!
More like life changer. Thank you, @hartba. Thank you for everything.

@AlasPoorYorick Thanks. I’ll stick with what I got since counter space isn’t a feature for me.

If it sucks but does not seal you need to replace the upper and lower gasket. Easy peasy.

OK, I give up, am I missing something on the last product pic?
@chienfou do you vacuum seal a lot of hearts?
@RiotDemon oh, I see it now…
So I bought this, and it doesnt suck. Meaning it doesnt suck the air out of the bag. Idk this one seems to be defective unless I’m retarded and am using it wrong

Try meh.com/support if none of that helps.
@bagingospringo Same issue. The vacuum runs but no matter what I try it dosen’t remove air from the bag.
@bagingospringo @Link991 I’ve had the same issue with a different sealer. I think it was the cheaper bag roll I bought. The ones that came with the machine had a ridges on both sides. The cheaper ones only had bumps on one side. Also make sure there is no food or especially moisture in the opening.
@bagingospringo @Link991 @ybmuG Try the foodsaver customer service. I had an issue with mine after about a year and they were great… even replaced it under warrantee…

@btioo have you checked your spam and promotions inboxes? Sometimes the response gets filtered there.
@RiotDemon yep, I’ve checked. No respond and I’ve emailed them twice on their support site.
Hi @btioo -
I found your support case. We replied on 11/22 and again on 12/2. Might be worth sweeping back through, or creating a new case and keeping an eye out.
The TLDR of our replies were to recommend troubleshooting with the manufacturer. Here’s a link for that: https://www.foodsaver.com/service-and-support/order-support/order-faqs/returns/returns.html
