Fire. I don’t know if I have a home anymore.
32The Lyons Colorado fire may very well have burned our house down. We were evacuated today. Had to leave our poor chickens and sheep as well as most of our reptiles and tarantulas. I’m so freaked out thinking of my poor babies. We have no way of knowing if our home is still there or not.

I’m almost at a loss for how to respond bc everything I think of sounds so trite… I’m so sorry you and your family are going through that. Being suddenly displaced and accompanied by the burdens of unknowns is horrible. Wishing the best for you & your family, animals, house and all others in the area++
Sorry to hear that. I am glad that y’all are OK, though. Praying for your household, and critters.
Keep us posted.
Oh my God! I was JUST whispering a comment to you asking, before I saw this! I’m so, so sorry! I hope they’re able to save your home; this is just terrible.
So sorry to hear you’re going through this. I’m praying that all of your little charges and your home remain safe.
Oh no!!!
My heart goes out to you. And to all your critters.
I so hope your place was spared.
Oh god, how terrible! I know how bad this is - we were evacuated in August of 2020 and it was a gut-wrench for the first week until we got news of where the firelines were. I hope you have a good place to stay and I pray your house and animals are okay.
We were amazed at how helpful everyone was - you’ll be taken care of and we’ll keep you in our hearts …
Sending hopeful vibes your way. A friend lost everything in the Paradise fire…unbelievably tragic. I could not imagine the trauma.
I have no words, can’t imagine leaving everything behind, especially my babies. Seconding all the comments above. Wishing you the best that everything turns out ok.
Echos of the above. More good thoughts sent to you and family
Oh Pony. I AM SO SORRY. I will pray that your house and animals all survive unharmed. Sending love and prayers.
Here’s hoping for the best and that your animals and house will be spared.
Thank you everyone. We are at a friends place with our 4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 pythons and 2 chickens that just happened to be in the house when we had to bail. No idea if our house is still there or not. I’m just sick with worry about the animals we couldn’t bring with us. (25-ish chickens, 3 sheep, 7 snakes, a lizard and 22 tarantulas)
I lost everything in the 2018 Camp fire in Paradise, CA. I understand this terrible wait. I was stuck in town and saw much of the town burn down before they got us out but you still hold out hope. And for good reason. The house next to mine and one at the end of the cul de sac were untouched. Animals are smart. We had hundreds of posts for found pets and animals on the elementary school wall.Don’t give up hope. And if you want to talk with someone who’s been through this terribleness let me know. Prayers with you and hang in there!
OMG… that is awful. Just checked the net and found this,
posted 10 minutes ago. Hopefully it is correct!.
Fingers crossed that you will get good news for Easter!
@chienfou that’s more news than we have had so far. I hope it’s right! Thank you!
@Pony you’re welcome. I can’t begin to imagine the stress you are going thru! Hoping they are correct and no structures have been lost.
Do they have a suspected cause yet? Hopefully it wasn’t some idiot dong a gender reveal. Used to live in Boulder and know how dry and dangerous it can get in CO.
@chienfou Apparently it was a transformer that blew up. One of our neighbors recently told my husband that the transformers in our area were overdue for replacement. Guess he was right.
@chienfou @Pony Yeesh, did the local utility farm out their maintenance to Southern California Edison? (They’re pretty much the gold standard for “we will neglect our lines until they burn your town to the ground”.)
My husband drove to where they have our road blocked off this morning, and while it is still under evacuation orders, they are letting residents go in to grab things from their homes. He went to our place and everything is fine, thank goodness. It looks like the fire is moving away from our property at this point. So although we still can’t go home, at least we know our critters are okay. Please pray/wish/chant/send mojo for the wind not to turn our direction.
@Pony
@Pony That’s so great - I hope you get to go home soon!
@Pony I am so glad your creatures are OK, you could feed the ones who needed fed, and none of them were injured due to smoke inhalation or because they panicked. What an agonizing night you had though.
@Pony
This is great news! How terrible the last few days must have been for you. You and your family of creatures has all my love, prayers and everything good coming your way. Here’s to wishing you get back to your home soon!
@Pony
I’m so relieved.
Sorry I’m late getting around to reading this update.
Been worrying off and on about you and yours.
I hope everything turns out okay. Please keep us posted
Possible good news…

We just got an alert from the sheriffs office that our area has been downgraded to “voluntary evacuation” so we are going home. We’ll keep things as ready as possible in case we have to bug out again, but yay we get to go home!
This is the hillside across the street from our house. Holy shit that was close.
@Pony
Super glad to hear that you dodged that bullet. Stay safe.
@Pony Wow. Hope you & all your loved ones (whether they be 2-, 4-, 8- or zero-legged) continue to stay safe!
@Pony That was close! Looks like the neighbors dodged the fire too.
Time for a nice relaxing drink. I can’t imagine the stress or the last day or so.
@Pony see! I told you! Hope was still alive! Great res and praying for continued deliverance for your community and support for those impacted.
@speediedelivery Yeah, those neighbors have a lot of horses, I was so scared for them too, because they didn’t get them out. Whew.
@Pony Omg - I’m so happy your home survived. Fire is one of my biggest fears, mostly because I live with someone who has trouble throwing things out. Thank goodness all is okay and I sure hope it stays that way.
Also, 22 tarantulas?
@Pony That is seriously close. OMG you and the neighbors across the street were incredibly lucky.
@cinoclav @Pony Ya think only people have sex?
@Pony this is such good news. I have been so worried. Will continue to say prayers that there are no secondary scares
Whew! I hope you stay safe; SO glad that things are okay right now! It’s going to be an anxious summer in CO this year (And probably a bunch of other states too.) Sleep well.
(I think I hear a little rain going on outside!)
I’m not making light of the situation, I’m very glad all of you are safe. I would probably be burned alive in the fire running through my house trying to get all the stuff I wanted to take with me.
