FiOS STB Help?
1Hello mehtizens, I’m searching for help, and hope some member of our community can help me.
I will start by saying I would never encourage or hope to benefit from criminal behavior.
Hypothetically; I’m a current Verizon FiOS subscriber. For the purposes of this thought experiment the relevant facts are:
I am in possession of a set top box registered to a dead man, freely given to me by his sister. His estate has no outstanding balance with Verizon, having already been charged for unreturned equipment. The man’s account no longer is accessible through the Verizon web portal. The box works when connected to cable and a TV. The box only gets the channels and services my deceased friend subscribed to. This hypothetical STB is a Motorola qip7232.
The question I pose is: Can anyone share with me a way to factory reset this box and/or authorize it to my account?

So, unless you already have service with Verizon, there’s nothing you can do- you need a CableCard to get anything more than over-the-air plus a few other things, and you can’t buy a CableCard, only rent it.
Theoretically, you can get a CableCard from Verizon, and they are self-service, so you should be able to install a new card in the box (remove the old one), then reboot it (pull the power cord, wait 30 seconds, and replug it).
If everything goes correctly, your box will power up, and about 5 minutes or so later, should provide you with everything you currently pay for.
Beyond that, you’ll really have to hope all the built-in diagnostics & self-service tools can do what you need- it could be an awkward call otherwise.
Thanks @dashcloud . That’s in line with my thoughts. Four bucks a month for the cable card was a better deal than twelve bucks a month for the HD box, but if anyone knew of a way to avoid that four bucks it was even better.
