Is Fedex smartpost somehow cheaper/faster/better than just USPS? It seems like I would get my shipment faster and maybe cheaper without this whole “day of tranfer” between FedEx and USPS.
We’re going to continue to use FedEx with no plans for stopping. Their SmartPost service works well for most of the things we’re selling and we like that customers can ship to PO boxes. Their Ground service works well for the wine we sell on casemates.com with 21+ adult signature requirements.
We’re also working with other partners to remove unnecessary layers between us and USPS (as suggested here by @johntmeche3). You’ll start seeing some orders with tracking numbers that take you directly to USPS tracking pages. The trucks leaving our dock are owned by Pitney Bowes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitney_Bowes the company that invented the first commercially available postage meter. In most ways it will work like FedEx SmartPost does today where Pitney Bowes drops shipments into USPS for delivery. Because it’s a similar approach we don’t expect any dramatic improvement in shipping speeds but it’s an interesting thing we’re watching.
@shawn Shawn, this is meh.com…not helpfulanswers.com. If I wanted an answer that was helpful, I would have gone there. I don’t come to meh.com for anything helpful. I expect to read each response in the forum, shrug my shoulders, and say “meh”. You sir, have failed.
Cheaper. It’s certainly cheaper. It’s not faster. It may be better for the sender, I’m not sure there but I bet it is.
