@DVDBZN Tolerance and accuracy is 4x or more compared to FDM (conventional filament printing). Details that get lost in FDM printing are crisp and accurate in SLA. There is not as much “layering” effect either.
The equipment and consumable materials are very costly though, and the consumables are much more susceptible to spoilage due to incorrect handling and storage. As an example of cost, you can get a 1kg spool of filament for as little as $10 or $12. Even the really good stuff is usually less than $25. 1kg of SLA resin is $60-$120.
Irt was a Christmas gift of last resort. Kinda like “well maybe he’ll like this.” Can’t say I used it. But it did make me “laser in” on my approach to putting.

@thismyusername he’s just adorable
Getting yelled at by dad that you’ll “distract a plane and make it crash.”
In his defense he worked in aeronautics and HIS lasers probably WERE that powerful.
You left out a big one… fiber optic telecommunications.
@awk
THE big one.
You left out manufacturing. Angioplasty stents are made by laser ablating hypo tubing into a desired configuration.
SLA fabrication. One day the equipment will be priced within my grasp.
@ruouttaurmind
Seams to be basically 3D laser printing.
Do you know if the quality is better than conventional 3D printing?

Inertial confinement fusion. Even if we never manage to harvest a single watt of power from it, it’s still the most badass use of lasers.
I actually received a laser that could be attaced to a golf putter. The laser was designed to improve my putting stroke.
That was short lived. I wound up losing it.
@unmlobo300 but did it improve your putting stroke?

@jbartus
@unmlobo300 so it had a placebo effect upon your golf game?
Lasers, 8 o’clock, day 1!

@medz Would that be good for hair removal, too? I hate shaving.
@phendrick Only if you’re not concerned about keeping your skin.
