Ugh…How dare you make me choose between Binding of Isaac and Stardew Valley? I’ve played a lot more of the latter lately, so I guess I’ll go with that.
I’ve played many, many hours of Terraria, Starbound, Risk of Rain, Deadbolt, and Butcher as well.
@Dweezle Risk of Rain is a good call. I played way too much of that one after my skills peaked roughly barely enough to win on Normal semi-reliably… always felt a little stupid about that.
Stardew Valley is my favorite of the poll choices. I’ve probably got over 100 hours in it, which is more than any game I’ve played that’s not a JRPG. I also really liked Retro City Rampage on 3DS. Think GTA 1 with 80s/90s pop culture references and NES graphics.
I’ve heard of magic pixies, dancing in wire, angry pixies. Wrangled by elec- chickens that make the 1s and 0s chooch. Know nothing of game pixies. (For more, see AVE on utoob)
Might be a bit of a cheat since it’s more-or-less a port of an older game, but even that older game’s graphics were already anachronistic in its day: RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic. It’s basically a port of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 with some subtle enhancements, and including the scenarios from the original RollerCoaster Tycoon. Now available on iOS, Android, Mac OS, and Windows (and it actually works great on the phone!).
@jqubed I like to build a small pond and call it “Lake Problem Guest”. Any angry guest gets sent to Lake Problem Guest. Barfing guests, too. I hate to hire too many maintenance workers.
I have positive feelings about several of these. Chief among them (cough-after-Minecraft) is Hyper Light Drifter. Or, as I like to call it, Psychedelic Zelda. That game’s cool. Good music too, as I remember.
I could never get into Binding of Isaac, because of aesthetic reasons. I’m sure the gameplay is fine (it seems popular enough), but the art (and themes) are so gross.
You know, FTL is good if you enjoy space ships and tactical gameplay. It’s not too deep; has you with a little ship with several rooms, systems, and crew members; proceeding through one combat encounter at a time.
@InnocuousFarmer I forgot, while I’m on the topic of Zelda clones, Songbringer is very soothing, in its way. It’s more of an NES Zelda than an SNES Zelda. Has a goofy sense of humor, that one, and a distinctive graphical character. It’s nice to look at.

probably. There are attack altering pickups “Cancer” and “Wire Hanger”*, a special attack where you make a pool of pee on the ground, and there are destructible environment objects that are just turds. It’s definitely graphic and childish but I really like it but would definitely warn away the weak of stomach.
* which is visible running through your character’s eye after pickup.
@naropa It’s a 2D/side-scrolling game that does take some cues from Minecraft, but has a lot more sense of progression and many more items, monsters, etc.
Not sure if it counts as pixel, but it is voxel like Minecraft. Avorion has been really fun lately. It’s basically Minecraft in space and you build the ship you fly.
@LordSalem I’ve been watching Avorion, but I can’t bring myself to buy any more early access titles, even though it sounds like it’s pretty well fleshed-out already. Also, from what I can tell, they’re never going to add a real first-person view, and I can’t fly a ship without a bridge/cockpit. It’s just too immersion-breaking.
Fez
not a game, but fun pixel art
There are plenty I love, but I keep coming back to Minecraft.
Enter the gungeon
I played a lot of Terraria. I still have Dead Cell and Slain to play.
Thimbleweed Park

Nuclear Throne. I’ve got over 200 hours in it. Which, you know, is a lot for a grown-up.
Does undertale not count? I really liked papers please, but undertale had a bit more depth for me.
Drive Ahead. Available on Android and iOS. Great multiplayer game.

I think my Minecraft account was hacked. Or I forgot my password and email address. I’m considering buying a new one.

Is the game Binding of Isaac as twisted as I hear?
probably. @naropa not to mention the psychological aspect
Is Terraria a cheap mine craft knockoff? I only know the icon.
@naropa It’s a 2D/side-scrolling game that does take some cues from Minecraft, but has a lot more sense of progression and many more items, monsters, etc.
Crossy Road
I started playing Golf Story on the Switch recently. It’s a pretty good twist on the golf game genre.
Does “Glittermitten Grove” count? Please say yes. Please say yes. Please say yes.

Caves of Qud.

@Kawa Live and drink, friend.
The Deer God! I know it doesn’t really hold a candle to some of the others, but it’s one of my go-to relaxing games.

Loderunner from the 80s. Civ 2 from the 90s. I haven’t played much since then
I loved Papers Please. This poll made me plug in my headphones just to listen to the theme song.
