@narfcake yeah that is elegant and so rare these days. It seems everything wants to be an SUV these days anything from mid to mega-size. And a lot especially the ones without AWD/4WD are little more than fancy minivans but without the sliding doors.
Yes, the ironic thing is, most people say they buy SUVs because they want “more room”, but studies have shown that almost every single car that is adapted to SUV has less leg room, less shoulder room and less hip room than the car it was adapted from. The only thing you get more when a car is adapted into an SUV is head room- which is essentially useless.
The SUV has slower acceleration (unless engine improved), longer breaking distances, frequently larger turning radius. Because they’re less nimble and slower breaking- you’re more likely to get in an accident. Because they’re heavier, it’s more likely to be a serious accident.
SUV’s are for people who don’t know anything about cars. They really are the worst of all worlds- less practical space than a car, less hauling ability than a truck, less practicality than a van. It’s like the worst attributes of every genre lumped together… and you’re charged a premium for it. Not to mention they all look samey and ugly.
had to select hatchback because pickup truck wasn’t an option and i really liked and miss our honda fit. it fit tons of stuff and mid 40s mpg was awesome
@spacemart I just traded in my 2012 Fit less than a month ago. I would have purchased another if they still made them. But they don’t in the US anymore…
@EwingKlipspring@spacemart I still have my 2012 Fit, I got a new Civic hatchback when I couldn’t get a Fit.
The Fit’s engine was a little underpowered, but it has been a fantastically reliable and steady car and so much fun to drive- and if we needed to transport stuff, it could haul more than my wife’s SUV.
Currently sitting on the driveway looking a little sad, waiting for my daughter to hurry up and get her license.
@werehatrack@xobzoo That’s pretty cool that they have it on the website though Not Available. The disclaimer at the end sounds like contents of most recent IRKs:

I really miss good old plain station wagons. Functionality of a regular auto, but lots more interior space. An SUV is the closest I can come to it, but I resent paying for the extra features of the SUV that I don’t want or use. And resent carrying around the weight of the extra features.
I wish I could get a up-to-date version for the 21st century of the 1969 Plymouth barracuda, with its long, sweep back rear glass, of course it is a very dated design, but something that is more current.
I’ve always driven hatchbacks, but love a shooting brake. (2 door Station wagon- although sometimes 4 door if sleeker lined Station Wagon… not common in US)
I voted for Hatchback, what people don’t realise is that smaller cars are usually more fun to drive, and hatchbacks get that great form factor- while still being great for hauling things. (you can probably move as much in a hatchback as a small/midsize SUV because they’re usually more practically designed).
But, a Shooting Brake is good for when need a little more room for family stuff- so would get one if could get one in manual transmission in my price range here in the US.
Invisible, if not for being sideswiped in the parking lot. And that box on the registration form for paint color. And seeing the fuel gauge and speedometer. And the whole “hiding things in the trunk” part. So maybe not. But … great view!
Station wagon!

@narfcake sad that it didn’t even make the list.
@narfcake @pmarin @warpedrotors
Start with a wagon
Make it worse in every way
Create SUV

The wagon I want, and the wagon I grew up with (and also want).
@tweezak Going for the large car, eh?
@narfcake @tweezak Wrong car mate, gotta go for the P45!
@tweezak
@narfcake @tweezak Small garage, maybe?

@PooltoyWolf lots of power. Handling is kind-of limited.
@pmarin I’d say the handling is fantastic as long as you’ve got a one-track mind!
@pmarin @PooltoyWolf Traffic delays can be interminable, though.
@pmarin @werehatrack Yeah, if you’re in a car at a crossing!
@pmarin @PooltoyWolf Or the block signal ahead of you is red.
@pmarin @werehatrack How to make an Amtrak crew see red:
The Top Gear reference reminded me of this. If you haven’t seen it be sure to watch the build videos.
@tweezak … “The world’s fastest mobility scooter” … Oh boy
The kind that runs and gets me there.
@katbyter in one piece preferably?
@katbyter @pakopako Two-piece cars are a bitch to park.
@katbyter @pakopako @werehatrack How about half a car from Siberia?

KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
@spacemart I also miss my Honda Fit. It was such a great car.

I still have my 2012 Honda Fit too! I don’t really drive that much so it only has 15,815 miles on it.
Passenger Van! Or mini bus!
@Corinalynn86
Bubble cars. Applies to pretty much any build. Old trucks with round bits, those teardrop-shaped luxury cars, most old-timey stuff.
@Yombleflobber that sounds Kool!
In my younger days it was definitely a mid- or rear-engine with removable roof.

Convertible Mustang, Audi, Mercedes Benz, MGB, Honda S-2000, I’m not picky. 2 or 4 seater is fine for me.
I was always fond of this one. Looks like fun.
Is there a restriction on number of wheels?
Electric

meh, you left off pickup truck from the list; why would you do that?
Why no convertibles?
@texmarc
Yep. My thought exactly.
@texmarc Same question here. Convertibles is my answer.
@texmarc convertibles are my choice as well!
Fluffy.
@rockblossom but can it do tricks?
A Pickup of course.
Mine is GMC.

@OnionSoup Never heard the term but had to look up the history and some examples. Found this article but it admits a bunch of them are 4-door which kind of violates the concept. Since most have a pop-open back glass door, I started to wonder about the difference between a shooting break/brake (both terms appear), and just a long hatchback. Some of them look very awesome though.

Reminds me of one of the other favorite cars of my earlier days – just a long hatchback I guess.

I know I complained about everything being an SUV these days, but this might work for me.

EDIT but that’s a pretty wimpy river I sure hope it can do more than that.
funniest thing about how everybody has huge SUV/Minivans without sliding doors to drive to school and the mall, I thought this was a funny sticker
