Facebook Assistance
2I need some help with Facebook. I have tried to figure this out, but maybe the option is not there.
I’m trying to figure out how to stop showing when people like stuff. I basically only want to see when they actually share things, instead of liking some random photo or what not. I know I can unfollow people, and I know I can hide posts from the people that they are liking. That gets really tiring, and eventually I won’t have anyone in my feed if I keep unfollowing people.
I stopped using Facebook for quite a while because it was so frustratingly clogged up with random crap that I didn’t want to see.
Last night it was clogged with likes on half naked women and then eventually porn videos. I know I can report the porn and it’ll get removed, but it’ll be nice to scroll through the feed and not get assaulted by porn thumbnails, especially when I use Facebook at work.
I thought about posting an update on Facebook itself warning my friends that I can see when they like porn videos, and I just don’t need to see their habits, lol.
Any ideas besides burning Facebook to the ground?

You can’t, besides hiding the sites you don’t want to see. Facebook is convinced you want to see the dumb shit your friends like. Even after you tell them you don’t.
@Thumperchick
sigh
Could just say no to facebook…

@duodec I would like to, and I did for a while as mentioned in my post. Unfortunately I am friends with a lot of people out of the country, and that’s the only way they really keep in touch.
Local friends also use it to announce gatherings instead of messaging everyone they know. So that’s why I don’t want to unfollow them even if they like stuff I don’t want to see. I don’t care if they like porn, I just don’t want it in my feed.

Some family members use it and want the rest of us to do so also.
These people are important to me. And I owe them. Really owe them.
So I use it for that.
Sigh. I try to log in and check once a week. I usually blow that schedule.
But I never get pr0n in my feed. If I did I’d do something about it. Like unfollow someone. Or warn the person I’m going to unfollow them because of the pron.
Or whatever.
FB needs to fix this.
My sympathies.
In your case I might tell people I don’t wanna see their porn and can they just let you know by PM what’s going on or something.
Dunno if that would work. FB really has some problems beyond the ones that make headlines.
Sigh.
@RiotDemon Sorry it has to be that way, but I understand the pressure. I have flat refused to join faceplant (as we call it), and my wife independently made the same decision despite a level of ‘pressure’ from some family members. I hope they get around to fixing the problems that are getting to you.
@f00l
Years ago FB was actually manageable. Decent almost. Users had options to control feeds and notifications. Casual users could easily navigate functionality and settings, privacy settings were obvious and powerful… but the more FB was “refined”, the worse it became. Now you have to be a power user to fully understand and control the content. It’s chaotic and unfriendly for casual non-tech users, and the ability to manage privacy and content has practically evaporated. FB has become Big Brother, telling the community it knows what’s best for them and foisting unwanted content upon them.
And so I choose not to participate.
@f00l I didn’t really want to tell the people directly that they are showing porn to all their friends. It’s so awkward. I don’t know if these people realize that Facebook shows everything they like to their friends.
There’s a few people that ask me why it takes forever for me to comment on photos on Facebook, I tell them because I hardly use it, so a few people will show me stuff outside of Facebook to make sure I actually see it.
@RiotDemon
Your call.
But if I “liked” something adult (unlikely in my case, not the place for that even if I wanted to share that material to someone [again, unlikely]);
And that sort of item went out into other people’s feeds;
I would wanna know about it, so I could be a little more discreet.
So I would be grateful if someone told me that pron or adult stuff I had liked had made it into someone else’s feed.
Otherwise some among these people might like something that then later shows up in areally wrong place.
@f00l thanks. I thought about saying something to one of the culprits the other day. I couldn’t bring myself to do it in person. Maybe I’ll send a message so it’s not so embarrassing.
If you are using a desktop or laptop to access, you might try installing Social Fixer. It’s very handy. If there are certain people who are the biggest offenders, I believe you can go to their page and uncheck notifications in the notification dropdown thingy.
@heartny phone, so no good on that. Thanks though.
@RiotDemon In the app, go to your friend’s page and click on the “Following” button. You should get an option to stop getting notifications.
@heartny it stops all the stuff in my feed, that’s the problem. Even though I don’t want to see photos or videos they liked, I still want to see the stuff they actually post.

The best way to not be notified when people like things? Just delete your account. You’ll never be notified again. You’re welcome.
