Even Meh would not go here. But if they did...
9The cheapest electric car in the world is made in China, and one of the guys at Jalopnik bought one on AliBaba. And it wasn’t a complete piece of junk!

Perfect IRK fodder!
Torch & David (rusty Jeeps) Tracy have a new playground now: https://www.theautopian.com/
@blaineg friggin sweet! Added to my RSS reader. You rock!
@fuzzmanmatt What RSS reader are you using? I haven’t used one for a long time.
@blaineg Inoreader. It’s got Android and iPhone apps, and the web app is fantastic on the computer. I tried a ton of stuff after Google reader shut down, and this one has been the best, especially for truncated feeds, because it’ll go fetch the whole thing without having to load up the complete page.
Latest update:

@narfcake I was wondering if Jason kept it, since Jalopnik bought it.
@blaineg Maybe it’s too much of an issue to transfer ownership? Licensing could be problematic in many states for a vehicle that was never intended to be sold in the US.
@narfcake Many states still don’t have specific safety rules for electric vehicles, and the whole point of the class is their lack of emissions; absent those regs to comply with, the only real obstacle is whether the state requires that the manufacturer’s name has to be present on their drop-down list or can be manually typed in, and whether the VIN matches the validity check.
@narfcake The comment section is a hoot!
@werehatrack
In my state it could be registered as a “vehicle of custom manufacture”. On the title the manufacturer brand would appear as “Self”. DMV assigns a VIN and issues a VIN tag to be applied to the vehicle. This is the same process I use to tile and tag the homebrew hotrods I build.
@werehatrack More of a LSV aspect, not the EV aspect. Different states have different rules for low speed vehicles on public roads. OTOH, some states full on allow for off-road vehicles to be on some roads, making vehicles like mini-trucks legal with fewer restrictions.
It’s so stinking cute! I want one!
But I have no car-mechanical talent, so it wouldn’t be a good idea. It would probably be adequate for 90% of my driving needs, though.
@Kyeh Well, there just aren’t that many moving parts, so you’ve got that in your favor.
@blaineg @Kyeh Not in favor would be the resulting price. This was early-pandemic pricing; it’s undoubtedly going to be a lot more nowadays.

@blaineg @narfcake
As he points out, still a lot cheaper than a golf cart, and street legal!
I’m not really going to get one, but it would be fun.
More fun…
@werehatrack Thanks, I’d missed that one.
I’m a geek, so I like this one.
