Enola Holmes
15Just checked out this movie on Netflix and it was a lot of fun. Good use of breaking the 4th wall, and a really charming performance from Millie Bobby Brown (better known as Eleven from Stranger Things). It’s got some mild violence like fighting bad guys, but overall an enjoyable family film for sure. My reaction after hesitantly watching was, “That was better than it should be.”

Agreed. Thought it was a textbook example of how to take a classic universe and re-imagine it for a “strong female character” and do it well.
yeah, I agree. I watched that with my wife on my last ‘week-off’ cycle. It was fun, and a good take on the idea. Much less dark than the sister in the BBC Sherlock series.
@chienfou She certainly was a strong female character, though.
@OldCatLady …to put it mildly!
@chienfou @OldCatLady Agreed! She carried every scene she was in and transitioned nicely from role to role alongside a great cast.
It would have better without all the liberal virtue signaling, but that’s Netflix.
@mlbrink then there’s always Fox News for U…
Why all the political stuff in all the threads?
@jmruru Why do these threads exist at all? People can’t think of a better place to discuss things on the internet than the forum for a mediocre deal-a-day site?
Baffling.
@jmruru @xaronax This site is fueled by its community and is part of what makes it sticky. It’s part of the core design of the site. You can’t have community without shared experiences, so these and other discussions are super relevant to keep the repeat traffic flowing, and maybe, by the way, there’s a thing for sale too.
@ACraigL @jmruru You sound like you work in marketing. Excuse me while I go gag.
@xaronax You obviously don’t understand how this site works. Maybe @snapster can enlighten you. Before you gag on your own ignorance.
It was awesome (OK, bot) how Enola outsleuthed Sherlock.
If Millie Bobby Brown can keep her head on her shoulders, and so far from the interviews I’ve seen, she is, she has a great future.
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot
right on cue!
@ThunderChicken lol the ok, bot bit took me a second for some reason till I looked down. Idk why.
That is why I am asking the question. I don’t understand and I don’t watch the threads that closely
@jmruru because it’s a highly divisive time that has been intentionally spurred on by a desperate president who is intentionally motivating people to act out and causing reactions on both sides. And all the other politicians are basically doing the same
However how do you connect politics to this? One random says “liberal virtue signaling” and another went off fox news. Fuck both of them.
Please ignore the fucking morons who pitch a fit about movies and leave them to rot in their own special hell where no one replies to their mutual stupid hatred. Despite multiple apolitical pleas people can’t seem to stop.
I haven’t watched enola holmes yet but I expect it will be good from the reviews. I’ve always liked sherlock movies/shows.
And for those who haven’t the BBC’s Sherlock is excellent and ended with Eurus Holmes a slightly psychotic sister absolutely wiping the floor with Sherlock and Mycroft. A Holmes sister is not a new thing nor is a “smarter” holmes.
And you should definitely watch the BBC show.

@unksol So well said! Do we need a “block” option?
Did you like Elementary at all? I will watch Enola Holmes then the BBC’s Sherlock! You are not the first person to rave about it. I am looking for an old series (short stories in book form) about a monk who was kind of a Sherlock. I wish I could remember the name of it so I could read the entire series.

@unksol I can not imagine what all that constant hate feels like…and what it does to one’s health
@jmruru I swear there was an 1880s set limited series I saw which was pretty good but I have not found it since.
I liked elementary but I only got that on comcast so saw maybe one season or half of one before I moved. I should get around to finding some of the good series I got cut off from even though they are probably long over.
BBC’s Sherlock is excellent. And probably the best one. Benedict Cumberbatch is excellent.
@jmruru also if you’re going to watch BBC’s don’t read that wiki link and just watch it. The sherlock sister thing someone already said so I’m giving myself a pass on spoilers and it’s a major plot point not the twist. So. Just don’t read it. Lol
@jmruru @unksol
My favorite site for tracking down what is available to stream is JustWatch.com since it keeps up with what is on the major channels and services. Stops you from having to look stuff up on
hulu
netflix
amazon prime
fandango
etc etc
one by one.
@chienfou @jmruru nice to know if it works. If I’m going to binge watch I like to find one then everything thing else they have that I want to watch. Can’t keep them all full time. Sort of works out like that pay for channels you want like people have begged cable for forever and they were to dumb to see streaming coming
Did you watch Life on Mars? I liked both the British and American versions but they ended way differently
Firefly! I want to go back and watch Firefly over and over again
@jmruru not sure how that’s sherlock related but yes it was good and should not have been cancelled. At least they did serenity.
I thought it was pretty fun. It had some problems, though.
It was about half an hour too long. They wrap up one plotline and you start to get up and then you remember, oh, wait, there’s this whole other plotline I had forgotten about.
Return of the King was still worse with the false endings, but Enola Holmes definitely reminded me of it.
It was also a bit heavy-handed.
I’ve never read any of the Enola Holmes books, so I can’t say anything about how it was as an adaptation.
Watched it this weekend and thought it was well done. Hope the create a follow up movie!
