E-mails from Mom
13I don't know how many of you have older Mom's (or father's) who are now slightly tech savvy who forward you all the the emails older people send. One of these emails are all the cute animal pics.
I just received one that I could ignore, and consider a weakness. These have to do with children and animals together. I have no greater love than for both of these subjects. Watching my own 2 children interact with our 6 animals (4 cats/2dogs) makes me very happy.
So post the best you can find for me. Also stay away from many of the staged ones you will find. It's somewhat obvious for many what is staged and what is not.

I should add, many home pics can be staged, I am talking more about professionally staged.
I'll troll the interwebs for some later, but taking a second to say, I love this idea for a thread!
Then again, I was always the kid who collected pets, and my kids are both animal whisperers.
Me, waaaaay too long ago, with Curly, my kick ass animal buddy. He would see me to the bus every day, and meet the bus when I got home. And when we walked a few blocks to pay the phone bill once, he followed and tried to crawl through the fence to stay with me. They had to cut a hole in it because he got stuck. They weren't impressed by my cat's loyalty, but I sure was.
@jaremelz So cute. Tiny @jaremelz - OMG. I love that! Curly rocked it!
@mfladd
There goes my theory that @jaremelz is a piece of code written by a forgotten Meh employee to cause mayhem in the forums. (The mayhem being caused by both the employee, and @jaremelz)
@jaremelz I miss film, and the perfect glow of aged prints.
@Pavlov I was thinking the same thing flipping through my albums. Everyone should have old pictures to thumb through from time to time. I've one of mom that's 50 some odd years old, and it's my favorite.
@jaremelz Have you seen the Polaroid documentary? http://timezeromovie.com/
@dashcloud https://www.the-impossible-project.com/
4 cats and 2 dogs? Psshhh.. I see your animals and raise you a tortoise, a turtle, 4 toads, a frog, tons of fish
I have lots of pictures at home, but I'm out right now :(
@capguncowboy post when you get back , Cap. I will hold you to it.
Happy Easter
Damn i've lost the pix!
A friend sent me a pix of his dark-haired 3 year old niece in a checked gingham dress and pigtails.
Standing next to her, and taller than she, was the family rottweiler, with a sign around his neck that said "TOTO".
@f00l
@mfladd
The 3 year old i mentioned is now 14 years old and runs marathons for fun. She's starting to plan for college visits. That pix is likely stashed on one of those closet machines i'll clean someday.
The family still has a rottie, but sadly not the same one.
I just noticed how badly I screwed up the topic header - double the's, could should be couldn't - par for the course for me. I just need @christinewas to come and give me shit now.
@mfladd
@jaremelz hahaha...
My father is 86. He's very very tech saavy. While I know that's not typical, I'm almost 61, and make my living with computers. I don't forward cute animal pics often, mostly because they are 'stupid funny' not for any other reason. My father is more likely to forward political essays (serious ones).
So let's lay of the stereotypes, m'kay?
@Cerridwyn My conjecture was based more in humor than in stereotypes. Please take no offense.
@mfladd That's a stereotypical answer. There is no way to post anything approaching funny without offending somebody.
@Cerridwyn My Mom is 86 and despite all my efforts to interest her in the computer I got her does not use it. The TV news people have convinced her that "the bad guys" will hack her the minute she turns it on. I bet more old people are like my Mom than your Dad. So there.
@Cerridwyn I'd be with you on the stereotyping (I'm coming up fast on 69), except that I do send funny animal pictures to my son, who sends me funny pictures of my two grand-dogs. I'm not sure if that defies or proves the stereotype.
@magic_cave PROVES IT. @Cerridwyn is anomalous. And gets offended easily. Probably is a librul too. :cheesy:
@therealjrn [ahem] Watch it there, young 'un. @cerridwyn isn't all that anomalous, and I'm about as librul as can be found. Bleeding heart card-carrying do-gooder, in fact. Also used to be an NRA member, till they fell off the right edge of the world. Still got the guns, though. And I used to talk every day to folks older'n me who were right handy and happy with their laptops and mobile app for the credit union. One old bird was 92; told me her grands and great-grands had all chipped in to get her a computer so she could send them email and look at their Facebook pictures. Only thing that annoyed her was that they'd waited so long. Said she'd found a group of knitters in Iceland to talk to.
All things considered, we're all a hell of a lot more alike than we are different. Age is nothing but a bunch of numbers, although it's a truism that getting old isn't for sissies.
Harrumph.
@magic_cave well said!!
@magic_cave
I first read that "sissies" quote in something from Art Linkletter. Later learned it prob originated from Bette Davis, which is awesome.
It's a long time fav...Dad and I would bat it back and forth all the time.
@Cerridwyn Timing is everything, not just in comedy but also for note-streams like this one, so I'll risk one last comment here before the horse is truly dead. This gave me such a laugh I just had to share it: http://www.upworthy.com/meet-the-internets-most-powerful-warrior-against-ageism-baddie-winkle?c=reccon1
@magic_cave Awesome and thanks for the share. You know what Peter Pan Syndrome is right?
I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up!
@Cerridwyn You rock!
Getting back on track with the nature of the thread.
@Cerridwyn & @magic_cave Sorry, I should have pinged you on this. It's all about fun, nothing more.
@mfladd @Cerridwyn @magic_cave
I'm just trying to figure out how we got here
We had to have our brindle baby, Galen, put down yesterday. So, I'm bawling now because I searched through albums full of his pictures to find this one of him, Roxy, and my kids. Not sure it really qualifies as a cute kids and animals pic, but I love it.
@PurplePawprints
I'm so sorry.
Thx for sharing, i'm sure it was tough for you getting thru today.
@PurplePawprints That qualifies on every level and I'm so very sorry!
@PurplePawprints
@PurplePawprints I am so sorry. Thank you for sharing. He passed knowing everyone loved him.
Thank you all. He was young and healthy, and his decline was sudden and rapid, so it has been a very, very difficult week. Life is really shitty sometimes. Also, is 2016 over yet?
@PurplePawprints It is so hard when we lose them, no matter how long they've been with us. It's never enough and the pain can be overwhelming. You are both loved.
@jaremelz <3 Thank you. I'm so glad there are others who understand, at least. He was such a good boy. He was sweet and gentle, he loved apples, and he'd pretend that he was sniffing you and then try to nibble on your ears. It made my kids laugh and laugh every time he'd catch them on the floor and he'd try to get their ears. As soon as he'd realize I, or my husband, was home, he'd bark this loud booming bark and wouldn't stop until we were inside and rubbing him because he missed us and was so happy we were home. He dreamed a lot and I have several videos of him wagging his tail in his sleep. He was scared to death of new people (he was a rescue) but he loved his family. He was 85lbs of pure happiness and love.
@PurplePawprints The biggest ones are so often the sweetest and silliest. Those memories right now are hard, because the pain is still so fresh. But as time goes by, they become a blanket you wrap your heart up in.
Damn it, who let me become human?
@PurplePawprints sorry about your friend
@PurplePawprints My heart hurts with yours. We had to put down our two 16 year old poodles last month, and I still cry.
@PurplePawprints I'm so very sorry. Been there three times and can tell you that you never stop loving and missing them. Focus on the happiness he brought you -- it far outweighs the current pain.
@magic_cave Sorry for both your losses.
This is me with Chuka. She was a Siberian Husky who was my best friend. I tried to find the picture which included the sled. We use to have her take us down to the local store during major snowstorms. This is she and I, and I miss her, very much.
Aaaaaagh, it's tiny @mfladd ! I can't take the cute.
And the love between humans and our pets just can't be beat sometimes.
@mfladd I can't get over this. Proof that at some point, we were all adorable and innocent little kids who just wanted to be happy. And hugging our best buddy was enough to make us so.
@jaremelz We were. Cheers.
@mfladd Woohoo, let's get loaded!
(We are soooo far from those sweet and innocent kids now)
I'll have to find out who in my family has it, but there is a picture, maybe a couple, of me, when I was about four or five years old, carrying around my pet chicken... yes, a full sized chicken! lol I don't remember about it, but my older family members still bring it up and laugh about it at family events. I was one of those animal whisperers as a child... I remember the grownups being so freaked out because I could get wild bunnies, etc. to come to me when I was little. Now, my son is the same way! I'll try to find out about the pic tomorrow, to share it with all my Meh friends, even though I'm generally embarrassed about photos of me as a kid! lol
@Baybay11 I'm sure you were adorable. My family gave me the nickname Dr. Doolittle, less because of any special talent and more because I'm always saying my dog told me he needed this or just ignore her she wants me to stop laughing so loud. Plus I'm obsessed with the animals. They can mock all they want, I know what my animals are saying!
My silly Buddy. ..what a goof.
@jaremelz In perpetuity
@mfladd ♡
I finally remebered we have ONE photo of my daughter with an animal..she is terrified of furry creatures!
@mikibell That is awesome. Good for her. She is beautiful. The one pet/reptile I do hate is snakes! Thanks for sharing :)
@mfladd the things I have had to touch so as to not share phobias with my kids..smh...
And grrrrrr I spelled remembered incorrectly!
@mikibell I don't notice that spelling stuff. I prefer to notice the meaning of the poster. You posted a great pic of your daughter which is more important.
@mikibell That's a wonderful picture and you're a great mom for going way out of your comfort zone there!
@dashcloud I can't take credit for that one..she was @ boy scout camp with dad.. I got the snake and tarantula at the zoo, and other critters..
