@nickiwhite Honest question. Given shipping costs to deployment areas, is cash a better option? (Bitcoin, gift cards, USD, prepaid mc/v, Uphold (a near zero fee forex)?) And if so, what’s most efficient for use at the px? Is sending it to your families here a better option? The new tax “cuts” for the rich will hit families back at home hard since the allowance will now be taxed. Thanks, Trump!
@nickiwhite
Well, if the care package is from the same region that the service member is from, it can and usually does contain local favourites which are extremely helpful in increasing morale. There’s nothing like a bit of something you remember from home when you’re stuck in some god forsaken hell hole for a year. This touch of home is NOT available from a PX. However, I do agree that a care package of Nestle chocolate bars would be better served by a gift card.
@mike808 shipping costs shouldn’t be too much of an issue. If they’re deployed, they’ve got either an FPO or APO (Depending on their flavor of service) which costs the same as shipping domestic.
There are also a bunch of organizations that put together and coordinate distribution of care packages. My division got regular shipments from an organization called “soldiers angel.”
While giving cash/gift card for PX NEX is always appreciated, like @bbf said, there are some things that can’t be found there, and they aren’t always available during deployments. So anything is better that MREs or mess decks good.
@bbf@nickiwhite Thank you to both for your service and sacrifice. Soldiers Angel will be my new charity for this year, as well as a local version of it. I’m sure my local VFW hall can point me. Around here they’re cranking up the Friday Fish Frys for Lent, so they’re easy to find and ask.
@mike808 Thanks, but I’m not military or ex, I just worked with a whole bunch of ex military and chatted with them a lot about various things and this was one of the topics that popped up once.
I consider it one of the cardinal sins for anybody to imply that they’ve served when they haven’t.
@bbf I hear you. Like jumping into action and protecting children from an active shooter using his military training. Oh, wait. Cadet Bone Spurs never served.
@shahnm Huh, now that you mention it… how did you receive your casemates vmp coupons? I backed at the $60 level, and received my shirt, but never got the coupons… I just figured they were delayed, didn’t realize they had gone out.
@smigit2002 Just an email that went out with the coupon code, good for 3 uses. You probably just missed the email. Try coupon vmpbribe next time you order - the coupon is good for months to come.

I’m a little confused about what you get. For instance, does everything listed for “Box 4” come in box 4 or do you get one of the items listed randomly?
I love my snacks, and these are likely good quality stuff, but I’m thinking I might prolly spend $15 on stuff I know I’ll like rather than gamble on a variety box and wind up tossing half of it in the bin.
@mehcuda67 Candy corn was previously procured, but proved unsuitable for the task, as subjects expired before extraction of any meaningful intelligence.
Hazelnut twists seem more promising, but additional research is required.
Hmm, I’m fascinated, but live in the Greater Chicagoland Area, which means I have access to The Georgia Nut Company factory outlet, the Mrs. Prindables/Affy Tapple factory outlet, the Long Grove Confectionary outlet and The Popcorn Factory outlet. So when I want short-dated snacks in inappropriate packaging, I’m covered.
Wait, am I just bragging about outlet stores in my area? Yeah. I am.
@mossygreen Plus I have the Fisher Nut outlet way out here in Elgin…and they have an excellent “bargain corner”. We really do have a bunch of factory outlets for snacks in Chicagoland, don’t we? I never really thought about it before, LOL.
@Kerig3 Ooh, I forgot about that one! Got to plan a pilgrimage soon (a friend told me you have a Doctor Who themed cafe in Elgin that’s pretty good, too). I’m pretty sure there’s a Ferrara Pan store in Forest Park, but I’m not sure if it’s an outlet and don’t know where Forest Park is.
We honestly live in a wonderful part of the world where we can find pretty much anything we want within an hour’s (or so) drive.
@Kerig3@pitamuffin It is off Lake Cook in Buffalo Grove east of the Target. It has a lot of close-to-regular price stuff because they do factory tours that end in the outlet, but it’s worth going, especially for after-holiday clearance.
Forest Park is just off I-290 near the Harlem Ave. exit. That’s where the Ferrara Pan store is. I’ve never been there, but that’s changing this Spring; I LOVE Lemonheads!
@mossygreen How is it you people are 90 minutes south, but living in a completely different, magical world? All this AND Lou Malnati’s? I need to road trip a little more often - the Oak Creek IKEA ain’t gonna cut it.
I wonder if there is somewhere in my house, an appliance perhaps, a major appliance even, somewhere, I wonder, where I can store these snacks to help them stay fresher longer…
@shahnm no room at the inn due to a battery convention. You will have to store them at my house (actually they sound pretty disgusting. I don’t like most of that stuff).
If you had drone delivery with pizza delivery times during the Superbowl in a major market without an NFL team, I’d order just for the chocolate covered pretzels.

For $4 I figured I’ll have 5 empty holiday themed boxes for gifts in 9 months, and some possibly edible snacks for now. (Now that I’ve said that, the boxes will be made of butcher paper.)
In for 3 x5 box towers ,one for me one for my landlords family and 1 for my grandkids …Unless their so good i keep all 3 for myself Ha Ha …Nice job team Meh !!!
@CaptAmehrican We’ve been joking that we should start a club where we just sit around and eat carbohydrates. This spawned from people bringing in weekly donuts, and various other baked goods.
Was just told by my doctor on Friday that I am just shy of diabetic. “Don’t even think about sugar too hard,” he said, and then had the nurse hand me a sheet of what not to eat. And she made sure I read it. Short version is: I can’t eat these for reasons totally unrelated to best by dates. Otherwise I’d be on this like giant ants in the picture. Still debating if I’ll grab a pack for the next meeting at work.
2.82 oz. per dollar for 3 boxes and 4.064285714 oz. per dollar for 5 boxes. 5 lbs ( 80 oz.) of yogurt pretzels on amazon for $28.36 (including shipping) or 2.820874471 oz. per dollar. I think the 5 box set might be worth it if the ounces per dollar average is similar on the other items.
After I clicked Buy, I thought, “wait, you could’ve gotten nearly 3 more boxes of girl scout cookies with that money” so I canceled my order.
Then I realized that the girl scout cookies I already bought have a best buy date of September 1 2018.
I’ll see you in August for nearly expired girl scout cookies, Meh. Make it happen.
Meh deal. I ordered the same thing three weeks ago from another daily deal site. Their deal included four other boxes of goodies as well as free shipping for a few bucks more. More importantly, that was THREE weeks ago.
Since I still have this holiday basket on my table, unopened and probably nearing the expiration date I should say no, but it is soooo hard to pass on this deal!
If Meh agreed to just dump all that shit in one box and ship I’d be all for it. OTOH - I could end with matryoshka-like gift boxes for making that one tiny, crappy gift way more effort than it’s worth…
too many things with nuts. also still have several xmas candy items that will probably hit the trash before i get to them. …it’s not that i wait months to eat stuff i buy, it just takes me a really long time to get through it. some of those truffles sound good tho.
Utah snatches up candy like a crack head looking for the rock he dropped. Once again, Utah proves it’s drug of choice is sugar. (Faithful Mormons don’t drink, smoke or use drugs.)
I can literally review this exact same product: I bought one back in Jan, when I was at burlington I saw this 5 box gift set. the MSRP is just ridiculous, the burlington price tag was about 20 plus tax, but my total came to 1.99 plus tax with the seasonal discounts applied.
I can say with enough confidence that all of the snacks are super MEH… the candy was mediocre… the pretzels and popcorn where edible…so, will I buy this again next year? definitely only if they are 1.99 plus tax
less than 50 oz of snacks for more than $10 = per oz cost over 20 cents/oz. So, go to Costco and get exactly the snacks you want, not on the verge of expiration, and pay about the same or less.
@mayshar@mike808 If I didn’t live in a 2 person household I would - but experience tells me that (the idea of) keeping a 5 pound bag of Reese’s Cups on the shelf never works as expected.
Both Sam’s and COSTCO are a great thing if you have kids, or, you know, self control (and unlimited storage space)
Hey, Meh. I may have a boring-ass nose…although that does sound possibly illegal in some states in the south. But I betcha some of us have boring-ass noses. Betcha.
@sammydog01 Then the sell by date is not an issue for you.
Yogurt pretzel are like chocolate covered pretzels only with a sweet white coating. They don’t really taste like yogurt, but I think it makes them sound healthy.
Wow. 1,760 sold and 180 well-starred comments with almost 2 hours to go. Impressive for near-expired snacks. And 1,760 but not even sold out. More of this type of crap coming…
@sammydog01@Woody1 Anytime the highlight of your day comes when most people are asleep-you know it is downhill from there. Especially when you get excited about buying something meh was able to buy at closeout prices because no one else wanted it.
@Jamileigh17 you can go to your bank’s website and see if they offer virtual card numbers. Get one and use that. Then if there’s fraud, they can shut the virtual card down a lot easier.
In many cases, your specific card might not be jacked, but they think it might have been, (like you shopped at a merchant that was breached) so they’re protecting themselves since theyre on the hook for anything over $50.
Two of mine arrived today and the yogurt pretzels have a best buy date of 06/18 not 03/18 for batch. Arrived in edible arrangements box and nicely packed!
Mine arrived today and it’s so pretty that I just set it on the dining room table to admire for a while before I open any of it. That part of me that really wanted to order a second one and had to be hammered down is whining.
@Barney Hey, I struggle every day with the knowledge of knowing that if I don’t buy it by midnight and then 6 am I still have a chance to get it on meh encore. I’ve made too many after the fact purchases!!! I’m still kicking myself for not buying more of the 5-box arrangements. The struggle is real!
Received mine today. All items were very meh. I did enjoy picking the dried cranberries out of the trail mix. That was the highlight for me.
The boxes were nice and arrived in good shape so they can be re-used. Unlike my subscribe and save shipment received today, which arrived with spaghettios all over everything.
@ponagathos That reminds me of when I ordered Musher’s Secret from Amazon midsummer. It’s a creamy wax that you put on dogs’ feet to protect them from snow, salt, ice, and supposedly it helps with hot pavement as well. As you’ve guessed, the canister was empty and everything in the box was covered with a pleasant smelling oily wax. It was all food items and one board game, so I had to return everything.
@moondrake@ponagathos We subscribe and saved a few times with a large bag of dog food and it was so large and heavy it would destroy anything else in the box. The box itself was lucky if it made it intact.
Mine arrived Saturday in two separate deliveries, which was interesting. The boxes do nest into one another, which makes it plausible to store them until next winter to use as gift boxes. I’ve nommed a few of the snacks so far - the chocolate toffee pretzels, the yogurt pretzels, some kind of white frosted graham-crackery thing, and the honey mustard onion nuggets. All have been yummy! Didn’t check the best by dates, since I had no intention of respecting them anyway.
The boxes do nest into one another, which makes it plausible to store them until next winter to use as gift boxes.
Pro tip: get a small gift, stick it inside the smallest box, and nest them all together before wrapping. The size of the outermost box and the sound of all the boxes rattling around when shaken will be sure to keep your recipient guessing!
@brhfl@lljk Add a marble and/or jinglebell to increase the sound. I had a package with a game in it. With all the pieces loose, is sounded like it was broken.
@zachdecker I am so glad I ordered this - everyone in the office is loving the goodies and everything tastes good. I didn’t look for expiry dates because it will go so quick it doesn’t matter.
Got mine today, no complaints. They were indeed edible, and also arrangements. Now I can put off going to the grocery store for another week.
/giphy win-win
Mine arrived days and days ago. Been steadily munching through. For $4 (VMP plus using one of my $10 coupons), this was a great deal on a set of five nesting boxes.
Everything so far has been at least meh, and sometimes quite good. Definitely worth $4!
@PlacidPenguin: no worries; it’s good to be reminded that once on the internet, always on the internet. IMO nothing incriminating there. Except, of course, my mediocre inclination…

I would like to arrange some edibles please.
No Candy Corn?
@norman8 No Candy Corn, but all those other (theoretically) unexpired and delectable goodies?!
@norman8 They went with corny cans instead.
Maybe this would be nice to send to our troops.
@Enigma as someone who has gotten care packages on deployment, the last thing we care about is “sell-by” date when presented with snacks.
@nickiwhite Honest question. Given shipping costs to deployment areas, is cash a better option? (Bitcoin, gift cards, USD, prepaid mc/v, Uphold (a near zero fee forex)?) @cjrhoades everything in box 4.
@medz Good deal then. Thanks.

@ruouttaurmind Agreed! Plus 2-5 oz packages seem pretty tiny to me.
@ruouttaurmind Huh. My standards are apparently so much lower than yours…

I’m snacking right now on “healthy” chia chips…meh.
Perfect for the office!

I’m on the fence…which I wouldn’t be if I continued to eat crap like this,
/giphy skinny fence climber
Since I still have this holiday basket on my table, unopened and probably nearing the expiration date I should say no, but it is soooo hard to pass on this deal!
Between yesterday’s purchase and today’s, I am pretty sure I am going to get diabetes within the next six months.
/giphy resplendent-buttery-milk
Happy birthday mom!
In for 3x5. I’m taking the good stuff and the rest is going to work where they’ll eat pretty much anything.

Oh good, a @carl669 approved giphy!
@cinoclav it’s about time giphy started taking the fuck count into consideration
/giphy unhelpful teachable tulip
@bolligra That giphy mady my day!
If you’ve mentally decided to buy this, you may as well throw in another $2 and get the 5 tower.
As I am still buried in tiny gift bags, I can put each individual treat in its own bag
/buy --set “5-Box Tower”
@zachdecker It worked! Your order number is: jovial-tedious-eye

Best By dates are for pussies. Ordered!
ARE YOU REALLY SORRY THO?
Purchased small and large. Hope snacks are good but boxes could be used next year for gift giving. Win now and a win later.
Perfect for the niche group of people who do mishloach manos but not kosher

@ManBehindPlan It worked! Your order number is: understanding-harmful-coal

@mediocrebot Feeling warm already

If Meh agreed to just dump all that shit in one box and ship I’d be all for it. OTOH - I could end with matryoshka-like gift boxes for making that one tiny, crappy gift way more effort than it’s worth…
With these expiration dates, this stuff is from 2016, isn’t it?
@blaineg Aged to perfection.
In for two!

@panthyrr this is the best giphy of the day
@panthyrr @Pufferfishy definitely!!
@Pufferfishy It totally made my morning.
Man… you guys will buy anything if it’s a low liquidation price, eh? But… the thing that stymies me is that so many people have purchased it!
@lseeber Not I.
No sale here, for a couple of reasons at least. But just wanted to say I enjoy the ant picture.
@dhaver1 yes, why an ant? I don’t get it…?
too many things with nuts. also still have several xmas candy items that will probably hit the trash before i get to them.
@Chrisgoates astute.
Five-box-tower is now sold out, and I have once again saved money through procrastination!
@aetris And for me extra poundage.
@aetris me too!
lol - omg - the random giphys in this thread are awesome…
I like snacks
/giphy dynamic-highfalutin-pear
less than 50 oz of snacks for more than $10 = per oz cost over 20 cents/oz. So, go to Costco and get exactly the snacks you want, not on the verge of expiration, and pay about the same or less.
@mayshar But then I’d have to shower and leave my house.
@Pufferfishy touché
@mayshar @Pufferfishy It could be worse. Go to Sam’s Club.
@mayshar @mike808 If I didn’t live in a 2 person household I would - but experience tells me that (the idea of) keeping a 5 pound bag of Reese’s Cups on the shelf never works as expected.
Both Sam’s and COSTCO are a great thing if you have kids, or, you know, self control (and unlimited storage space)
Hey, Meh. I may have a boring-ass nose…although that does sound possibly illegal in some states in the south. But I betcha some of us have boring-ass noses. Betcha.
@gertiestn Most of the administration and congress-critters are boring ass-noses. And they’re going in deep for Russian gold.
I guess we have those yogurt pretzels to thank for this appearing on Meh.
Last week I bought some great pimento cheese from Red Clay Gourmet that was half off at Kroger because it was two days before the sell by date.
@craigthom Somehow yogurt pretzels don’t appeal to me, and I’m not sure I’ve ever tried one.
@sammydog01 Then the sell by date is not an issue for you.
Yogurt pretzel are like chocolate covered pretzels only with a sweet white coating. They don’t really taste like yogurt, but I think it makes them sound healthy.
Sell by date means very little and is just a manufacturers guess on when some taste starts to be lost.
Do you want ants"Because this is how you get ants
@Brasssong
Wow. 1,760 sold and 180 well-starred comments with almost 2 hours to go. Impressive for near-expired snacks. And 1,760 but not even sold out. More of this type of crap coming…
I have to stop buying crap after midnight. I feel so ashamed in the morning.
@Woody1 When the highlight of your day is what they put up for sale at midnight each day at meh, you know your life is pretty much over.
@Felton10 @Woody1 My life is pretty much over.
@sammydog01 @Woody1 Anytime the highlight of your day comes when most people are asleep-you know it is downhill from there. Especially when you get excited about buying something meh was able to buy at closeout prices because no one else wanted it.
@Felton10 It’s spring break so I get to sleep in. Best part- I can stay up to midnight every day for a week and watch the rollover. Life is good!
Fill this with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and I’ll buy it.
I would but my card got jacked friday and the replacement won’t be here til tomorrow. Rerun it or similar another time though, and I’ll be in.

@moondrake damn! I was wondering about ordering a second one too, I should have!
@moondrake You still can. I ordered a few more for friends. Its on meh encore morningsave!
@mehrrychristmas Thanks, I’ll look at. Never actually visited morningsave.
@mehrrychristmas I hate you for telling me this.
@Barney
Party at your house?
@PlacidPenguin It’s all mine.
@Barney
@moondrake You should check it out because if you are VMP you get free shipping and 10% off.
@mehrrychristmas Well, I did buy one of the 3-box thingies. I’m consoling myself for not getting the 5 by thinking I’m saving on calories.
@mehrrychristmas @moondrake 10% don’t think so free ship yes
@mellowirishgent 10% yes indeedy! They usually hike the price up a bit to make up for the discount.
@mellowirishgent 10% off everything on morningsave AND free shipping. It’s true!
Our package arrived today. The yogurt pretzels we got also also had a best by date of 6/18!
We already ate them all.
@moondrake @ponagathos We subscribe and saved a few times with a large bag of dog food and it was so large and heavy it would destroy anything else in the box. The box itself was lucky if it made it intact.
@medz @moondrake @ponagathos Only thing I ever subscribed-and-saved was coconut water which… also did not end particularly well.
@brhfl
Pro tip: get a small gift, stick it inside the smallest box, and nest them all together before wrapping. The size of the outermost box and the sound of all the boxes rattling around when shaken will be sure to keep your recipient guessing!
@brhfl @lljk Add a marble and/or jinglebell to increase the sound. I had a package with a game in it. With all the pieces loose, is sounded like it was broken.
Chocolate peanuts and savory snack mix are now also gone.
I feel like I should have gone for a 15 tower box.
@zachdecker I agree. Was pleasantly surprised how good this is (um, soon to be was). This is one of my bestest meh purchases. Nice job, meh buyers!
@zachdecker hA hA Thats exactly what i bought 3x5=15
@zachdecker I am so glad I ordered this - everyone in the office is loving the goodies and everything tastes good. I didn’t look for expiry dates because it will go so quick it doesn’t matter.
My office mates have asked where the blueberry cookies can be had… I have no answer for them.
@Noddy93
They can maybe buy their own here:
https://morningsave.com/deals/edible-arrangements-gift-boxes-2
NOPE. Looks like the 5 box set is sold out.
Got mine today, no complaints. They were indeed edible, and also arrangements. Now I can put off going to the grocery store for another week.
/giphy win-win
Very Meh!
My order arrived today. Was waiting for a 3-box set X1 and a 5-box set X2 BUT only got one of each!
Looked over the shipping data and it seems someone there believed I only ordered one of each - so nothing lost in FedEx/mail.
Sent a msg to cs hoping they can find a 5-box set (or rip off someone else at MorningSave).
Mine arrived days and days ago. Been steadily munching through. For $4 (VMP plus using one of my $10 coupons), this was a great deal on a set of five nesting boxes.
Everything so far has been at least meh, and sometimes quite good. Definitely worth $4!
@uncleop
What’s a ‘water rally’ ?
@PlacidPenguin: https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events/conservation-lobby-day-clean-water/
(and I thought about cropping that picture before posting…)
@uncleop
Sorry if I overstepped.
On the other hand, the picture helps show just how tall this item is/was.
@PlacidPenguin: no worries; it’s good to be reminded that once on the internet, always on the internet. IMO nothing incriminating there. Except, of course, my mediocre inclination…
@uncleop I like those ornate chair backs. So glad it wasn’t cropped.
@uncleop Your room looks like it belongs to someone I’d get along with.
@uncleop Very nice framing of Minard’s visualization of Napoleon’s 1812 march
@zachdecker : Thanks! Got it at a Tufte lecture in the mid 90s.
Got it, pretty good too.
Every single item in these boxes of joy was really good
