Edge Pieces
8They are the second worst. The worst, of course, are corner pieces. People get mad at me a lot because if I am the first to take a piece I will carve it out of the middle. And just to be even worse I’ll often do it in a triangle or circle or something.
How do you feel about edge or corner pieces? Do you cut everything in nice squares or do you just take whatever shape you fancy? Why would anyone want to make the pan that makes all pieces edge pieces? That ruins the whole batch!

Corner pieces are the best. Especially for brownies. You are crazy.
@sammydog01 This!! Corner pieces rule!
/giphy corner pieces are the best
@giphy, why do I even bother with you?
/giphy you’re dead to me
@sammydog01 I LOVE the corner pieces of brownies! Pie crust is at least as good as whatever filling is in it! The pie crust has to be made my my wife, though…
Also ‘thin crust’ pizza crust.
People who like edge piece are probably the same people who love really extra crispy pizza crust. Freaks.
@medz I love crispy pizza crusts.
/giphy pizza freak
@medz The only good crust is none.
/giphy edge to edge all the way
Edges of brownies are yummy… Depending on the brownie though. I’ve had some that were gross.
I don’t like the edges of sheet cakes because there is way too much frosting.
Edges of pizza… Eh. Usually do not like except for pizza Pizza Hut pan crust.
@ACraigL that is one awesome pan.
@ConAndLibrarian That is my aforementioned “ruins the whole batch” pan. Why would anyone do that?!
Not to mention you are losing valuable brownie space where all the bars are, though I suppose the same amount of batter would just mean thicker brownies.
See, I’m with you, I want the middle. My fiancee wants the corner pieces. That’s how I know it’s right. It’s like Jack Sprat and his wife except we’re both eating brownies.
I haven’t ever had the audacity to cut my own piece right out of the middle of a virgin baked good, though. I always wait, or take an edge first (depending on how many people are around). I’m fairly traditional in my desire to cut even squares.
@djslack
Edit: dang, this was posted a little lower
I don’t like the corners or edges of brownies, Sicilian Pizza or crumb cake. Gotta be the middle. Corners and edges are too dry, middles are squishy.
If we’re not talking about puzzles, I don’t care.
@Pantheist
9120 piece puzzle. Took me about a year and a half to complete, albeit with a large break in the middle because of some sort of painful memories and other commitments.
You can see the ladder feet at the bottom because the entire thing is like 9 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
@Mehsturbator well, you’ve managed to impress me.
@Pantheist It was supposed to be practice for the 18240 piece one we have. But, we still haven’t opened that one. I want to build a frame for that one and hang it up though, it was a lot of work to finish that thing and I’m pretty proud of it.
@Mehsturbator You could always cover it in clear contact paper in the mean time
@Pantheist Picture data says I took that on 27 Dec 2013, which sounds about right. We actually (very carefully) took it apart into like six pieces, which are now stacked in this protective casing thing we built for it. I want the frame so we can actually mount it on a wall. But since we are probably selling this house within a year or so I don’t think it’s worth it to do right now. Maybe once we move, if there’s space. Would you ask about it if you saw it hanging in someone’s house?
@Mehsturbator
I would ask about it and admire it.
Go ahead and mount it.
@Mehsturbator You’re a better puzzler than I. I was given a 2000 “large pieces” puzzle for Christmas and I’m still dreading (with anticipation) opening that one. Once I start a puzzle I become absorbed with finishing it.
@Mehsturbator
Ravensburger publishes a couple of 32,000 pieces puzzles. I can’t even imagine the commitment…
@Mehsturbator As long as it wasn’t permanently attached to the wall I wouldn’t have any negative feelings about it. I’d just be impressed. I guess if you’re really concerned you could ask a realtor what (s)he thinks.
@ruouttaurmind They also have a 40,320 piece Disney puzzle now.
@brhfl @ruouttaurmind
Tempting due to it being a humongous puzzle, but it has Disney versions of fairy tales (I don’t think I need to elaborate on that last point)…
@PlacidPenguin @brhfl, Ouch. I do enjoy playing puzzle, but that’s like a second career right there.
I believe I’ll stick with my 300 piece “one nighter” puzzles for now. One day I’ll bust out that 2000 piece I received for Christmas. Maybe on a long holiday weekend or something.
@ruouttaurmind yeah, my biggest problem with huge puzzles is the cat has a tendency to destroy them when they’re about 1/3 done.
@ruouttaurmind
In the last Mehxchange, I received a 1000 piece photomosaic Star Wars puzzle from @capguncowboy. Still haven’t gotten around to it.
Middle all the way. I cut normal traditional pieces and am happy to take the middle as the first piece. I have also been know to bury the middle piece if I’m making a plate of brownies . If it is just me, I just cut about a 1/4 inch of the edge off and throw it away…then all that is left is, soft, gooey, middle goodness!!
Crispy or chewy are both good in the right circumstances.
And pizza crust is really bread sticks if you have garlic butter.
Everyone has their own preferences, but I like it all.
@2many2no Except with bacon. Crispy bacon all the way!
/giphy "malcolm in the middle"
It’s all good, but for most things, edges are the best.
All you who have access to tasty brownies that contain no irregular ingredients; are make according to instructions, with no baking catastrophes; and no overbaking or underbaking:
Please send me multiple samples of center and edge pieces.
I intend to spend a few years discovering the truth.
/giphy brownies
@f00l So, no Tabasco brownies, then?
@djslack
i quite like tabasco. straight out of the bottle. tasty.
i quite like brownies.
combo? hmmmm.
@djslack That sounds good. I may have to try it.
@f00l I used to love tabasco, but I’ve converted to cholula
edit: and red hot for cooking
I’m with you almost 100% of the time, but the comments made me realize there is one exception. Pizza or brownies I’m going for the center, but always give me the corner piece of cake.
Food is food, I eat it all.
@DrunkCat
I wanted a gif of a goat eating a tin can, but I found this instead:
(Interestingly enough, it doesn’t end in .gif, but .jpg)
@PlacidPenguin never seen that before.
All edge brownies.
