Drone bowling
15And I was proud of my little fluttery drone flight videos in the backyard …
From Nat Geo’s news email:
‘Jaw on the floor’: That’s how the director of the Oscar-winning Coco described an 87-second drone video shot to promote a pandemic-suffering bowling alley in Minneapolis. The single take is shot at high velocity, in tight spaces and without digital effects. Other Hollywood luminaries also have hailed the short, titled Right Up Our Alley, the New York Times reports. But don’t take their word for it: See it yourself.

Lots of explanations from the makers in the comments.
See if you can catch the two Big Lebowski references.
the You Tube comments, that is.
I left the sound off, but the visual was just amazing.
Almost as much as I was blown away by the piloting, I was also quite amazed that no one seemed to even react to the [presumably noisy] drone buzzing by them.
It was awesome, thanks for sharing it.
KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
@PhysAssist The sound is worth it, as impressive as the drone flight - they re-dubbed it all to add the sound effects and the conversations of the actors, and did an incredible job. It makes the (now) silent drone flight even more amazing.
@stolicat
Thanks SC,
I’ll rewatch it next time I get a chance.
Jaw-dropping is the correct response.
Wow!!
That was phenomenal!
Incredible. At first I thought drone, then I saw the tight moves and thought it was purely digital. Stunning piloting skills and creative chops.
@KENSAI I wonder if the footage was slowed during the really tight spaces or they just found someone insanely talented.
@KENSAI @RiotDemon They claim it’s in realtime, no manipulation. In the You Tube comments there’s one from the pilot about how he stressed out on all the tight moves in the areas behind the pins. Took them 15 rehearsals, 10 in the empty bowling alley, 5 more with the actors. There’s lots of explanation there on how they did it and the units they used.
