Driving Game (Part 32)
2Original Explanation:
Basic Rules: Follow the posted music video with a different song, band, or musician tied directly to the previous post.
Example: I post Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal.
You could then post Michael Bolton, Jackson Browne, Outcast - Ms. Jackson, Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal, Fun Lovin Criminals…
Create a new comment for your submission and leave replies just to talk about the comment’s connection or validity.
You can veto if you don’t agree that there’s a connection. In that case, you can post your own connection to the previous song or @ the person you’re vetoing and tell them they need to make the connection clear or replace it. No hard feelings, either way, we’re just having fun sharing music. Note: If someone has already made a new connection to the song you want to veto, you missed your chance and the song stands. You can still let the person know where you found the problem and maybe they can clear things up.
The full history with links to each of the past threads can be found on the Driving Game Cheat Sheet.

Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Microwave - Something Right
Free - All Right Now
Free - All Right Now
@Gamblam When you put in your song, please also put the artist/band and title above, so whoever compiles the Cheat Sheet can just lift it from there.
@Gamblam @Kyeh I threw it in there.
@ExtraMedium @Gamblam I was wondering how it got fixed!
@ExtraMedium @Gamblam @Kyeh
Thanks guys (n’ gals)!
@Kyeh sorry about that. New around here. Will know for next time. And thank you @ExtraMedium for fixing it!
@Gamblam Glad you’ve joined in!
@ExtraMedium Do you think the info about putting the names above the video could be added at the top? It wasn’t important until mike started the cheat sheet, so there’s nothing saying that you should post it that way.
/youtube Supertramp - Bloody Well Right
Ooops, I duped, but @ExtraMedium fixed it because “Right” is in both song titles.

DUPE
Game 3. Please use the cheat sheet. The link is in the top of every page.
@chienfou @mike808 no song can ever be reused if it was used it a previous driving game? Very strict. I did not know, apologies.
@chienfou @moonhat It’s not that it won’t happen, it will be called out here and in the cheat sheet, and the point is to not cycle through the same songs and be exposed to perhaps something unexpected. To keep the stream of consciousness flowing and avoid loops and repetition. We already get that with mainstream radio/streaming.
Hence the operative part of “different” in the instructions. And the link to the “Cheat Sheet” precisely to help players avoid dupes before posting now that we’re 32 pages of playing. That’s a lot of songs to avoid (and get the creative juices flowing and to step outside your comfort zone of repetition).
@chienfou @mike808 ok, I gotcha.
@chienfou @mike808 @moonhat check the spreadsheet before posting?
@chienfou @mike808 @moonhat @Yoda_Daenerys There’s a link in the last line of the intro, at the top of the page.
@chienfou @mike808 @Yoda_Daenerys I am now, I swear
@chienfou @Kyeh @mike808 @Yoda_Daenerys yes I know
@chienfou @mike808 @moonhat Oh, I was saying that to @Yoda_Daenerys because she posted that image saying “huh? whut?”
@chienfou @Kyeh @moonhat @Yoda_Daenerys
@chienfou @Kyeh @mike808 @Yoda_Daenerys ah ok, thank you for clarifying. I am late to the game here and I apologize but I do understand now
@chienfou @Kyeh @mike808 @moonhat lol, i made my comment due to laziness, feigning ignorance of said spreadsheet.
is there a ‘spreadsheet’, or just that one post with the history?
@Yoda_Daenerys
That link goes to a Master list of all the postings (up through currently part 30). Since it’s only a text file it makes it a lot easier to search for duplicates rather than having to go to each page individually and wait for them to load.
It is broken up into who posted / artist / title of song.![enter image description here][1like this:

(Damn it, I missed the edit window)
@chienfou @Yoda_Daenerys
There is no spreadsheet. Just the Cheat Sheet.
@chienfou @Kyeh @mike808 @Yoda_Daenerys yoda, thank you I see what you were saying now!!i was being too sensitive
Charles Aznavour - For Me Formidable
@chienfou Aznavour!
@Kyeh
I’m particularly fond of this song because of how he drifts from English to French and back using words that sound the same but mean different things across the two languages…
@chienfou Yes, it’s very clever!
/youtube bruce springsteen for you
Pierce the Veil - King for a Day
@metaphore Veto Check
What does this have to do with Bruce Springsteen - For you?
@metaphore @mike808 the word “for”??
@llangley @metaphore Ok. Thats some weak sauce, though. Not much to really be “connected” when you’re referring to a common preposition that has no expressive “idea” behind the word. Same for articles and pronouns.
P.S. We already went through this many pages back by simply demonstrating the point through the degenerative case of articles, with the band “The The”.
/youtube The The - uncertain smile
P.P.S. We got out of that nasty little almost cul-de-sac by switching to the theme of bands with self-titled songs.
@llangley @mike808 I feel like I had some clever connection when I posted, but now I can’t remember
@llangley @metaphore Hmmm.
Columbo is on the case…
The Police - King of Pain
@ircon96 This song always reminds me of being 11 and sitting on my bed in the afternoon at exactly this time of year thinking about what my Halloween costume was going to be. I looked it up and August was when it was #1 on… some chart. So, yeah. August always makes me think of this song, and every time I hear this song I am transported back to a specific August afternoon.
@mossygreen That’s cool how music can transport us to such a specific place & time. One song that does it for me is also by The Police (“Don’t Stand So Close To Me”), because the local radio station would play it at the same time every day when i was a kid & my mom’s alarm clock radio would go off. Good times. <sigh>
/youtube The Cramps - Queen of Pain
@Ignorant What’s the connection to David Grey or “Please forgive me”?
@Ignorant @ExtraMedium
I think there’s something funky going on. These are not loading after expanding collapsed entries some of the time.
Now there are the King/Queen of Pain entries which connect, although based on a veto checked post.
@ExtraMedium @Ignorant @mike808 seems like maybe the train doesn’t stop at veto-ville. it just keeps on rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river…
Spanish Love Songs - Routine Pain
Pat Benetar - Love is a Battlefield
@chienfou What does this have to do with Pierce the Veil - King for a Day?
@chienfou @ExtraMedium
I think there’s something funky going on. These are not loading after expanding collapsed entries some of the time.
Can these pages be flagged to never collapse from profile settings?
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @mike808 lol, I’m also thought I was losing it a few threads ago but now I just expand everything when I open the page. What’s weird is that they used to collapse up to a point but everything below remained intact. Now it’s random as fuck, thus my workaround
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @llangley
Except I think I’m getting weird drops/missing posts even after expanding the thread. It’s almost as if the “collapsed” version that is presented is really collapsing multiple different sections (posts with 0 stars?) and then displaying only the last section with a non-zero starred post, and then when expanding, it isn’t expanding all of the sections that were collapsed (maybe above the last expanded section?).
Very weird, and confusing, and I don’t think I’m imagining this behavior. I just don’t know what might be triggering the weirdness.
My pages are ranked by likes/stars, btw.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @llangley
Here’s my exact Forum settings (under account, not profile for some weird reason - maybe to apply across all Mercatalyst sites?):
@chienfou @llangley @mike808 What the hell is going on in here? I leave work for just a few hours and you all break everything!
So, I don’t know what’s going on with the internal workings of the site because they don’t let the support monkeys touch the expensive and complicated stuff. I also don’t know much about the forum settings outside of my own, which are to show everything all the time. I have a feeling that won’t work for everyone and primarily works for me because I have 1GB up and down fiber to my office. It’s delightful but obviously not available everywhere or cheap.
If you find a pattern of behavior that is easily replicated and results in the same problem each time, do let me know because that’s the sort of thing I can take to the devs. Other stuff tends to get put at the end of a to-do list that’s constantly grown and resorted by priority.
Sorry I’m not more helpful here.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium
Yeah, that’s kind of the problem. It seems intermittent and not reproducible. It may be a really nasty synchronization issue, server or client side, with dynamically updating the DOM and/or uncaught background async fetch or timeout failures that are causing this weird unpredictable issue.
Combine that with my weird screen size issue and who the fuck knows what’s going on. The days of editing plain HTML and laughing at the notion of “programming” web pages are long gone. Add in 3, 4, 5, or more various libraries of JS and CSS that get combined into the page into a standalone interactive “app” and server side “microservices” everywhere, different cacheing implementations, and it’s a hot mess trying to hunt down these intermittent corner case behaviors.
If something looks notable, I’ll def post it in thread.
@ExtraMedium @mike808
Does the use of the “/youtube” command vs using a direct link have any impact?
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @mike808 maybe check if you have an erratic connection between your chair and keyboard?
and if it’s not that, perhaps check for a nut loose on your keyboard?
and if all else fails, as a last resort, do some research on the elusive eye dee ten tea error.
/youtube Whitney Houston I Will Always Love You
@moonhat No-look question: This one hasn’t been done before? If not, I’m shocked it’s this deep into the tour.
@mike808 Mike I have no idea, I was unaware if that rule. Sorry!
@moonhat No apology needed. I did go and look.
Somehow this is the very first time any Whitney Houston song has been posted. I’m just very surprised. I thought surely someone had, being such an iconic and legendary performer, and for this song of hers in particular. Mehbe we were “asleep at the wheel” …
