Driving Game (Part 29)
2Original Explanation:
Basic Rules: Follow the posted music video with a different song, band, or musician tied directly to the previous post.
Example: I post Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal.
You could then post Michael Bolton, Jackson Browne, Outcast - Ms. Jackson, Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal, Fun Lovin Criminals…
Create a new comment for your submission and leave replies just to talk about the comment’s connection or validity.
You can veto if you don’t agree that there’s a connection. In that case, you can post your own connection to the previous song or @ the person you’re vetoing and tell them they need to make the connection clear or replace it. No hard feelings, either way, we’re just having fun sharing music. Note: If someone has already made a new connection to the song you want to veto, you missed your chance and the song stands. You can still let the person know where you found the problem and maybe they can clear things up.
The full history with links to each of the past threads can be found on the Driving Game Cheat Sheet.

Picks up from:
Bob Dylan - Talkin’ New York
LCD Soundsystem - New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down
Is this really the first LCD Soundsystem track played?
If you haven’t heard this mash-up with Miles Davis it’s certainly worth checking out:
/youtube Fear - New York’s Alright If You Like Saxophones
/youtube t rex new york city
The Strokes - New York City Cops
Saxquatch - Autumn in New York
/youtube new york dolls personality crisis
/youtube Billy Joel : New York State of Mind
/youtube They Might Be Giants - New York City
/youtube Sting - Englishman In New York
I love the Quentin Crisp cameo. I saw him speak and got his autograph on his book in San Francisco.
Oh, I guess Quentin was the inspiration for the song - that makes sense.
@Kyeh Great minds strike again! I was going to post this one, but i thought i already had. Maybe it’s on one of the threads that haven’t made it onto the cheat sheet…? Or, maybe I’m just getting REALLY senile. Either way, good choice!
@ircon96 Oh! Well, if you did, I guess I got away with it.
I really love the video.
@Kyeh That’s what i was thinking, if a video gets posted with a follow up & nobody’s around to catch it, did it make a sound? Ok, wrong simile, but i love it too, until i realize Sting looks like a child in it, which makes me feel old all over again!
@ircon96 I was struck by that too - he doesn’t look like that anymore, though!
@Kyeh Lol, he sure doesn’t!
/youtube The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
@Ignorant “fairytale” -
/youtube Jim Croce : New York’s Not My Home
/youtube Don Henley - New York Minute
OMG… Can’t believe we haven’t done
/youtube Frank Sinatra : New York New York
@chienfou I kind of assumed it had been already!
@Kyeh
couldn’t find it when I tried to look for it. Such an iconic tune for Ole Blue Eyes…
Frank & Nancy Sinatra - Something Stupid
Mindless Self Indulgence - Stupid MF
/youtube Eric Carmen : All By Myself
/youtube Carmen Mcrae - New York State of Mind
Going back to New York - just because I like Carmen.
Sofi Tukker - Batshit
That’s my current state of mind, so i decided to go for it!
@ircon96 I was going to veto but…Meat Loaf…
@ircon96 … and what’s the link?
@ircon96 @Kyeh
Batshit crazy
@chienfou @Kyeh Leave it to a crazy dog to pick up what I’m puttin’ down!
@llangley Who else would it be?
@chienfou @ircon96 @Kyeh I have this flag in my yard…(actually it’s on the fence by the gate)
@chienfou @ircon96 @llangley
Love the flag!
But I meant what’s the link to Carmen McRae and NY State of Mind?
@chienfou @ircon96 @llangley
Also, if I can’t knock, what do I do when I come to see you on my big Florida road trip?
@ircon96
… and I just watched that video.
I like their style!
@ircon96 @Kyeh
Batshit crazy is ircon96’s state of mind…
@ircon96 @Kyeh
@chienfou @ircon96
Ohhhhhh. Duh. Okay. Kind of a stretch, but I liked it. Where do you find stuff like that?
@ircon96 @Kyeh
I live in my own little world… But it’s okay… they know me here!
@chienfou @Kyeh @llangley I love your flag, too. My late husband made a sign for our gate (at the time, we had 3 dogs with free access to the yard) that says, “Ring bell, win a dog.”
@Kyeh I like it, too (great minds again! lol), they’re def a quirky combo. I always thought that video was a unique blend of hilarious & visually arresting. They have an interesting back story, too, both separately & as a duo.
@chienfou @Kyeh Yeah, i figured it was a stretch, but i figured, where else was i gonna get the chance to match any of the words/names in it? I can’t remember where i first heard the song, but when i looked up the video, it turned into an instant favorite!
/youtube Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell
@llangley Aw, shit! Not meatloaf again!
/youtube consolidated the sexual politics of meat

/youtube Jimmy Cliff : I Can See Clearly Now
/youtube Steve Winwood - While You See A Chance

@zinimusprime
Pearl Jam Better Man
(Posted name to facilitate composing the cheat sheet list…it’s PITA to pull it off the vids otherwise…)
@chienfou I’m in my forties and don’t internet well. It literally took me a full 2 minutes of reading and rereading your comment to translate it in my brain. Hahaha
@zinimusprime
No worries. I’ve been playing about with computers and the 'Net for about as long as you’ve been alive! (I have kids your age and was too broke not to “do it myself” when it came time to spend $$ on tech…)
@chienfou This is exactly why every single one of my posts is “Artist - Song Title” and a new line with “youtube link” and nothing else. When you don’t include that info or put other stuff in it becomes messy down the line for the cheatsheet.
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)
I couldn’t believe there was only one entry for Aretha till now, so i took the chance to post my favorite of hers.
/youtube Rainbow - Man On the Silver Mountain
Dio!!!
Harry McClintock - Big Rock Candy Mountain
/youtube 10,000 maniacs candy everybody wants
@mossygreen Haha - as opposed to the candy corn mentioned in the “5 years ago” topic?
/youtube Glen Campbell - Everybody’s talkin’
Proper. - Done Talking
Talking Heads - Road to Nowhere
Joyce Manor - Constant Headache
/youtube Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow
@llangley
SWMBO used to teach English and always enjoyed showing O Brother, Where Art Thou? when she would teach The Odyssey
@chienfou @llangley
From the minute I heard this, the rest of the season was just a formality. There’s a reason three judges turned in the first bar. No disrespect to the Soggy Bottom Boys. The song is is just one of those that has all the feels.
@llangley @mike808
Not bad for a song that’s over at least a hundred years old!
@chienfou @mike808 that was fantastic!! First time I heard this, thanks for sharing!
I quit watching The Voice long ago (too much Blake) but I did hear about Girl Named Tom and thought they were amazing. Love those nice tight harmonies…one of my favorite things in music. (CSNY, Poco, early Eagles, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town, I’m forgetting a bunch of obvious ones but it’s early…)
@chienfou @llangley @mike808
I agree about “too much Blake.”
@Kyeh @llangley @mike808
Don’t have cable or live where I can reliably get OTA signal. Consequently don’t watch any of those shows. Can’t remember the last time I watched a show with commercials… Too much stuff on my Plex or streaming services to worry with that.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Chicago Transit Authority - I’m a Man
Village People - Macho Man
/youtube jobriath i’m a man

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band w/ Johnny Cash & Ricky Skaggs - Will the Circle Be Unbroken
This one didn’t last long. Already loading super slow, so I’m moving us on to Part 30!
Really glad this has held on and everyone seems to be enjoying it. Here’s to 30 more!
@ExtraMedium
Yeah thanks for that!
