Sometimes it doesn’t work so you put the pen back into the drawer even though you should really just throw it away. Because you never know, it might grow new ink?
I always thought doodling a sign of a distracted mind. A waste of pen and paper, and a distraction from listening. I would look at my classmates’ doodles with disdain. Like (gasp!) writing in a textbook. And don’t do it on my paper!
I have since learned that it does actually help some people to concentrate. And while I understand the biology of it, I still struggle not to judge doodlers. I think there are more random doodlers who just doodle out of boredom and disinterest than ADHD minds needing occupying so they focus.
@katbyter I always did it in lecture classes - I often tied the doodle in with whatever was being discussed. It did help me focus. NEVER in the book though , just in my notebook!
@katbyter
I always doodled during certain lecture classes. It kept me from loosing my mind. Some teachers (especially the ones that were judges, my BA is criminal justice and all our teachers either worked or still had jobs in the profession) were so flat and boring. I new my shit and some just didn’t entertain me enough to keep me engaged. I still find myself doodling when I’m on the phone with like U-verse trying to negotiate a better price for cable or something boring like that but that’s about it anymore.
I am fascinated that some can use it to stay focused. Works the opposite for me: the instance doodle mode is on, whatever is being spoken fades to white noise.
A perfect way to create doodles.
A great way to get the ink flowing in your pen.

@awk I recently got rid of one of those pens. It was a good feeling.
@awk @yakkoTDI
back in the olden days of ball point pens and cigarettes a quick run of the pen tip thru a lighter flame would often resurrect them.
Not really a great anything. It’s just doodling. When achieving great is far too much work…

@Kyeh I think I got one of your used books. The doodles kept me distracted during the lectures.
@hchavers No, no - I would never even write or highlight or underline in a book! I just can’t do it!
@Kyeh I’m the same way. I would doodle all the time in my notebook, but I have issues writing in any book, even when it’s mine.

@hchavers Are you sure you weren’t listening to one of your recorded lectures in a bathroom stall?
I can’t read my own writing, so there’s no way I am going to attempt doodling.
@hchavers You read my mind… Almost exactly!
@hchavers Maybe you’d be better at doodling, then you could write everything in rebus form & have an easier time deciphering it!
I doodle on everything I can get my paws on! :3

@DrWorm Well, that could be handy in some circumstances…
@DrWorm Funny that you said this, and today they’re selling white noise machines!
