It depends on the beverage and the container. With my vacuum-insulated large tumblers, I will absolutely use a straw. With my tea mugs, please, one does not use a straw there. That would be Wrong.
No straw for coffee, flip top and straw for everything else.
The vast majority of my cold drinks get consumed outside while I’m working. Flip-up spout makes it easier to keep the dust from the lawn mower etc out of the beverage. It’s also much easier (IMO) to drink from the fliptop lids in a car rather than try to tip your head back while you’re driving.

If you have younger siblings, you might have discovered that straws significantly extends the effective range when in an all out spitwad war.
