@kaighintze Only once have I encountered a robe in a hotel room, and then it was during a trip to Europe . And it isn’t like I am just staying in crappy hotels all the other times.
Uh, I thought I’d occasionally stayed in nice hotels, but honestly I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever been in one that offered a “room robe”. My hotel life has been a lie!
Back in the day I would visit the Apple campus in Cupertino fairly regularly. I would always stay at the Cupertino Inn. They had some pretty deluxe robes for a midrange hotel.
To be honest I’m not a hotel dweller… My choice is motels, At motel’s they don’t have snotty nosed bell boys whose constant stretched out hand always needs to be fed nor do they have lavatory pimps who eyeball you while you pee AND they don’t furnish robes… Motel’s on the other hand have roaches, some still even smokable and they have porn (if you bring enough quarters for the actual ‘pay’ TV) and in the morning they offer you free gnawed on donuts and week old coffee that you wouldn’t feed to your worst enemy… All in all the motel rocks, you can drive in with a fifty and leave with a twenty… Let me know where your fifty went.
@unkabob I once had a job that required a group of us to travel extensively to the same semi-remote location over a period of a few months. My 3 traveling companions eventually rebuked the “company approved” hotel and insisted on booking accommodations across the street at the motel (strictly because the hotel had undersized televisions). I said “hell no” to the motel and continued to stay at the hotel.
The next morning, two of the guys were covered with insect bites (there was a visible gap around the doors to the rooms, which in motels, means to the outside world) and the third had not bathed that morning because his room’s shower was inoperable.
@DrWorm That’s almost a horror story. I’ve been lucky in choosing my motels, guess it’s the deal of the pick. Never had any problems with motels… Call me lucky…?
I stayed at the Ritz Carleton in the virgin islands once, that’s the only place I’ve stayed that had a robe in the room. And I’ve stayed at a lot of other nice places throughout the states.
While I usually stay at a place that has a room robe, I have never used one. I do occasionally wear a robe at home (though that practice has diminished since I got a sleeved blanket), but it feels too odd at a hotel. It weirds me out enough using a bed that will be used by, and has been used by an unknown quantity of strangers.
@PocketBrain My wife and I took her aunt with us on a trip to Italy this past year (she is approaching 80 and had never been out of the country) and she literally threw some of her clothes away so she would have room in her suitcase for the hotel robe.
Most of the places we have stayed in only offer one robe. It is annoying as only one of us can wear it. On the other hand, the Royal Hawaiian did have two in the room. (Most place will charge you if the robe is taken)
Radisson in Orlando had them. Not luxurious, more like a dishtowel with arms. Also too small for 6 ft humans, like most robes. Also, the hotel in question is a dump.
I am another motel kind of guy.
They don’t have robes but Holiday Inn Express has this amazing push button pancake machine. The first one of these I saw had a sign that said “Admit it. You want one of these for your kitchen,”
@Garfield43@moonhat I was in Memphis a few weeks ago and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. Totally fell in love with the pancake machine the first morning. Yep, I want one too.
@jml326 Holiday Inn Express: Costs less, better breakfast! Seriously, that machine would be enough for me to stay at another HIE. The overall breakfast was awesome. They had some of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had.
@cinoclav I have to stay at Marriotts when I travel for work, so I earn lots of free nights there. Hard to pay for a room at the Holliday Inn when I can stay at Marriott for free.
Sadly with all the Hotels and Villas, I’ve stayed in none have ever had robes. They’ve had bottles of water for $7.50, 2 bathrooms for 2 queen beds in Chicago (one with heated floors), full kitchens, living rooms, dishwashers, and bathtubs and toilets with little dividing blinds but no walls. Sadly never robes.
Only been to a “room robe” hotel once in recent memory. The robe had several noticable hairs left by a previous occupant. I left it hanging in the closet.
Yes. It keeps me warm when I retrieve my batteries from the hotel mini-fridge.
@shahnm Meta
My wife and I do this thing where we take a picture of ourselves in every hotel room we stay in that has robes. It’s cute
@jsh139 Awww!
What if I don’t go to hotels?
@mflassy Then, logically, it stands to reason that you do not wear robes in hotel rooms.
@shahnm
But there was no option for that.
Then do you wear the robes you find in the closet in the room you’re staying at your friends’ and relatives’ home?
I’ve heard of robes that come with hotel rooms. I’ve never seen one
@kaighintze Me neither
@kaighintze Yeah, the company doesn’t pay for the good hotels with robes.

I stay in the cheapest hotels available. I’ve never been to one that offers robes, except for maybe when I was a little.

When we stay at a hotel, we usually stay at a nice one. There’s often two robes in the room, but I’ve never used one…
I figure I’m lucky if the AC works and isn’t so loud that it keeps me awake.
Robes… pshaw!

@simplersimon Just DONT NEVER EVER shine a black light.
That’s a thing? Robes in hotel rooms? I’ve literally never heard of nor seen this.
I don’t think the quality motels we stay in have robes

Anybody here ever walk out with a couple in your luggage, a la Beverly Hills Cop?
@PocketBrain My wife and I took her aunt with us on a trip to Italy this past year (she is approaching 80 and had never been out of the country) and she literally threw some of her clothes away so she would have room in her suitcase for the hotel robe.
@PocketBrain They actually hope you do leave with a robe.
That way they can charge another $75 to your credit card…
Most of the places we have stayed in only offer one robe. It is annoying as only one of us can wear it. On the other hand, the Royal Hawaiian did have two in the room. (Most place will charge you if the robe is taken)
Why wear a robe at a hotel when I can wear my birthday suit
Radisson in Orlando had them. Not luxurious, more like a dishtowel with arms. Also too small for 6 ft humans, like most robes. Also, the hotel in question is a dump.
@rocketjuice so you played peekaboo… still fun.

Yes, yes I do,
@Garfield43 what is this?!? I need one too, and the sooner the better!

@cinoclav Marriotts don’t have that!

But dammit I want pancakes and not waffles.

I walk around naked!
