I hate buying obligatory gifts as much as the next person, but we can agree that everyone passing $20 bills in a circle is basically meaningless, right?
Money would just go towards bills. Which is no fun. I have sentimental attachment to things, so I would prefer things I can’t consume.
Nobody will ever get me what I really, really want (this year it would be a thermal label printer or label maker, alternatively a Henry Hoover imported from England) but I would appreciate the little things like a funny mug or a keychain more than x10 the cash equivalent.
I’ve been told I’m a good gifter, so perhaps my problem is that I expect the same amount of thought or perceptiveness from other people.
I’d rather have an item. When I get money I usually spend it on either something practical like bills. Or something average like dinner. At least if it’s a gift (something I want not some random bs) I have something to keep and use. Hell even if it’s nice chocolates I’m going to eat them and probably wouldn’t have bought them for myself. Although I was considering buying some Sees candy the other day. Haven’t had any in well over a decade. My dad used to ship some at Christmas, now he just sends cash or gift cards.
Money. I have interests, mainly geeky things my family could care less about.
@kjady It is not the interests they don’t care about.
Something specific but money will work also.

As long as the gift has some thought behind it. If the giver is not going to get ME a gift, just give me money.
Items. My friends can work within their budget and I don’t particularly mind as long as they put some thought into it.
That said, my family tends to be fairly blunt about what they’d want for the holidays though
Crud…did I miss the GE this year?
I have too much stuff already.
Just stick to things I can eat or drink.
It depends on who it’s from. And if their gonna buy me what I actually want.
I prefer random unexpected gifting of stuff. No pressure, no expectations, and it’s pretty likely to be something they did think about.
My expectations for this season fell to zero long ago, For Reasons.
