@christinerenee The local NPR station has good news shows, and fantastic Jazz on Saturdays. Also classical on evenings. It's a mix. I got 'em locked in, but I sometimes do listen to whatever Rock-n-Roll is playing locally, but my music is mostly streamed.
@joelmw i'm sorry, wasn't trolling. but "@thejackalope In my experience, folks who talk shit about NPR generally don't know what the fuck they're talking about--and not just about NPR." sounds like an awfully trolly response to me.
SiriusXM, mainly the '50s and '60s although occasionally the '40s because I remember a lot of those from my mom listening to them. And I like Dean Martin and Perry Como and so on. Although never much cared for Sinatra. Also listen to some of the comedy channels.
I only listen to the radio when a podcast ends while I'm driving on a stretch of road where it's to dangerous to pull up the podcast app to start a new podcast. Judge John Hodgman is #1 followed by Spilled Milk and Ask Me Another.
My wife does, mainly news/traffic while she's driving in the car. I can't stand it any more and prefer podcasts or streaming music (Pandora). My car radio has something like 16 FM presets, I've set none, my wife set one (the news/traffic channel). Had Sirius for a while, but why bother? For that matter, just silence is a beautiful thing now and then.
I voted "no", but that's not strictly true. I listen to podcasts of (mostly) radio programs, so I can listen to them on my commute instead of while they are on "live" when I'm working. Audio books are my second choice for drive-time listening. There are occasions when I'm with my teenage kids, though, so I'm more well-versed in pop music than I'd like to be.
You see how there is only 1ish votes for the sports option up there? Yea, I'm that guy. My radio almost never makes it to actual music. I pretty much exclusively listen to sports talk shows. My favorite is a local station here in Dallas called The Ticket. They do just as much pop culture and world/local news cross talk as they do sports which makes it a lot less of an in your face, sports all the time, screaming and yelling jock talk station and way more of an every man station.
I've seen someone else on the forums use a few of their random sayings that are unique to The Ticket but I can't remember who it was.
@MEHcus I'm an ESPNRadio kinda guy. I listen to Colin Cowherd, and SVP and Russillo just about everyday. SVP will be leaving his radio show shortly to start a nightly sports show (still on ESPN) to compete with all of the late shows. I'll miss that guy.
Traditional radio, I only listen to my local NPR-type station (Chicago's WBEZ). In the car, on my zune, and at my computer. There are also some BBC stations I'll put on when I'm in the mood, on my PC.
@goldenthorn@gertiestn Coworkers persecute me for this but I was a big fan of the Zune. I bought the first one on launch day, and had the second and third generation ones too. If I hadn't lost it on a plane, I would probably still use my Zune HD. Being able to download any song to my music device and then add it as next to the playlist was mindblowing in 2010. Xbox Music is pretty okay but the android app kinda sucks...
@goldenthorn I had to buy a speaker dock on ebay for our zune less than 2 years ago. We still use it primarily in the bathroom for "getting ready for the day" music. (or bath time music for daughter's baths) I like how it's got wifi and the songs I add to the PC sync to the Zune automagically. I never did get the hang of building good playlists, but I like that the Zune software lets you build dynamic (or "smart") playlist. (ex: songs added in last 3 months)
A couple of years ago, I had an upcoming camping trip in an area that I knew had no cell reception (and obviously no wi-fi) and was looking for a "vanilla" portable AM/FM radio to listen to the World Series during the evenings. I couldn't explain to the 20-something clerk at Radio Shack (ironic?) what I wanted. He kept trying to sell me a pair of Motorola Talkabouts. Finally one of his co-workers chimed in , and was able to describe to him what I needed as "like one of those radios that are in older cars with no XM, but in a stand-alone unit". He responded "Oh, they make those?" In his defense, Radio Shack did in fact, not carry radios (at least the kind I wanted)
@DrWorm I quit going to Radio Shack over ten years ago when I needed a new cable for my monitor. "Oh, nobody has desktops anymore, everyone uses laptops" I was told.
I haven't really listened to the radio since I moved from Portland to Seattle. I listen to NPR via the NPR One App, and I listen to KEXP through the KEXP app.
@pooflady CKLW is actually out of Windsor, Canada across the river from Detroit. We still have a promotional CKLW throwing disc acquired when we were newlyweds living in the Detroit suburbs 40 years ago.
I'm an NPR nerd. I haven't changed the station on my radio in years.

@christinerenee @KDemo Y'all must sleep a lot...
@thejackalope - At least I have sweet dreams ;-)
@christinerenee http://www.npr.org/series/tiny-desk-concerts/ :)
@JasonToon - You're in Seattle, right? KUOW still airs Car Talk reruns.
@thismyusername Yes, they are wonderful. :)

@christinerenee Yep, always on WBUR Boston if it's on the radio.
@thejackalope In my experience, folks who talk shit about NPR generally don't know what the fuck they're talking about--and not just about NPR.
@joelmw well thank you. how delightfully tolerant and open-minded your response was.
@thejackalope Nope, but don't worry, I shan't be feeding you further.
@joelmw i'm sorry, wasn't trolling. but "@thejackalope In my experience, folks who talk shit about NPR generally don't know what the fuck they're talking about--and not just about NPR." sounds like an awfully trolly response to me.
Amy Goodman.
Radio? Are you SIRIUS?
SiriusXM, mainly the '50s and '60s although occasionally the '40s because I remember a lot of those from my mom listening to them. And I like Dean Martin and Perry Como and so on. Although never much cared for Sinatra. Also listen to some of the comedy channels.
@pooflady bennington is a god. rawdog channel.
My radio has gotten replaced by a combination of podcasts and spotify...

@SSteve You're responsible.
Yes, but only satellite radio, so the only commercials I hear are while listening to sports.
Stern sometimes. Mostly audible.
Of course I listen to the radio. Rush Limbaugh, especially on AM. And anything else that makes liberal bedwetters wet the bed. :-)
@bfayette You were listening when we stuck my cousin Monty's hand in a bowl of warm water? That is creepy.
My wife does, mainly news/traffic while she's driving in the car. I can't stand it any more and prefer podcasts or streaming music (Pandora). @MEHcus I was another sports vote. While I'd rather watch baseball on TV, I'm not going to pay for cable just for that. Radio it is.
@brhfl I have no cable, but I bought the mlb package and $5/mo for Unblock-us. That and the roku work perfectly.
Satellite only.

@goldenthorn Another Zune user! So help me, I don't understand why Microsoft didn't keep Zune alive. I love HD radio & I love my Zune.

The Jack Benny Program
@connorbush Gunsmoke.

Of course I listen. I used to watch the radio, but it never did anything interesting.

Bunch of whippersnappers.
I haven't really listened to the radio since I moved from Portland to Seattle. I listen to NPR via the NPR One App, and I listen to KEXP through the KEXP app.
@jmendenhall KEXP for the win. they're right up there with WFMU and KCRW
Feeling old because my main station growing up was CKLW out of Detroit. And sometimes being able to get Wolfman Jack on a station.
@pooflady CKLW is actually out of Windsor, Canada across the river from Detroit. We still have a promotional CKLW throwing disc acquired when we were newlyweds living in the Detroit suburbs 40 years ago.
@gio That's right, I forgot it was out of Windsor.
I get to hear the radio other than in my car thanks to my new Oregon Scientific Digital Radio Alarm clock! Thanks meh! *infomercial music *
KFJC, from Foothill Junior College. Maximal Louie Louie, and if you don't like what they are playing just wait a few hours. They also stream...
@SIMBM Ah, KFJC. That's where I first heard the Pajama Slave Dancers.
