Today's question bothers me. This is the third time in less than a week i see people crap on desktop computers. It's not "cool" to have anything but some iTurd or Chromecrap? My daughter asked for a laptop for Christmas. Now instead of me just blindly saying ok, and scouring the internets for some insane deal, i asked her why. Turns out she wants Steam games she can't currently run. She also wants to learn photoshop and whatnot. I talked over all options and she came to the conclusion it made WAY more sense to buy parts and build her very own PC. We have been so excited and busy putting together a mid range gaming build. End result is closer connection with both her AND the system she'll be using for several years (at about half price). Why is that such a bad thing?
@triplebud This is a good choice. It's a lot easier to keep a desktop up-to-date with gaming then a laptop. You should also have her build the rig, It's a rite of passage. I have a 15" MacBook Pro (Unibody/i7/16GB/SSD) but it is almost four years old, so the video card is not the best for new games. So I am just going to build another gaming rig and keep the Mac as my workstation.
@triplebud I hear you. My wife and kids laugh at my desktop usage, while they make due with their tablets and phones, but when it comes time for mom to prepare a presentation or the kids to play Steam games, it is "can I please borrow your computer".
I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one and start piecing for my next badass desktop; I have had the Behemoth laptop for 2 years now, so it's time to replace the Core2 desktop.
Yes, although mine can only handle a refresh rate of 30Hz... stupid HDMI 2.0
@axleman1011 Wait...HDMI 2.0 can output 60hz@4K lol You might want to double check you monitor or GPU, You might be using HDMI 1.4
I just got to 1080p with the last 1080p screen deals on here.

The next question should be.... Do you want a 4K monitor? - Still No...
