@ACraigL funny but it actually exists. but it’s called Maxim. same publisher, basically the mens version. there were even a few times they called that out, back when i had a subscription(early 2000’s)
@ACraigL You might have been, but you needn’t have been. Most overrated toy I had. I still remember to this day how it had a small threaded bulb in it that burnt out. No one had a damn replacement for that bulb, not even Radio Shack.
@cinoclav I saw that on the show Comicbook Men that someone wanted to sell. They were running it thru it’s paces. You are right. It isn’t that exciting. But a cutting edge toy for the time.
@mfladd I remember really, really wanting it. I was so excited it was under the Christmas tree. Played with it for about two days and decided it was way too much of a pain in the ass to bother with. You would program it to turn 90 degrees at the corner of the hallway and it would turn about 80 and eventually run into a wall. I don’t think there were many toys that disappointed me more than this one.
@mfladd That’s the model I got for the nephew. Combined with the Jedi wrist controller thingy he was king of the neighborhood on Christmas Day, and I was his best uncle ever. Of course I’m his only uncle, but I didn’t let that cheapen the moment.
The little kid inside of me wants a Cozmo. I’ve actually met via work a kid (probably 6) who had one and he had nothing but good things to say, as did his mother. Very cool toy.
There’s an extensive API document on the Anki website and good developer documentation and some tools there as well.
I’ve been waiting for bargains on eBay. I’ve seen a few, but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have so many projects and toys queued up, waiting for my attention. RasPi3, DJI P4, of course the hot rod in the garage, my POE video system still needs installation… on and on and on… Cozmo not coming home with me soon. But I and quite curious to explore the developer stuff.
I actually have played with one. My younger brother who is five has one. The interactivity of cozmo is pretty cool. I wish it was mine because the programming side of me wants to develop functions for it. I saw an article of a guy who used the facial recognition of cozmo to alert him if someone walked in his office that he didn’t program. Anki has done some cool toys. Their other toy combined the old car race tracks with modern technology, so an “ai” can race against you or chase you down
And haha, on the thread image:

Yeah, sure. What about him?

@cinoclav the original ASSMAN.
@cinoclav this is where I went immediately too
@cinoclav THE original Cosmo. Hideous, yet I can’t look away.
I had a programmable robot vehicle once upon a time. It wasn’t that exciting.

@cinoclav Holy crap, I remember that! My friend had one, I might have been jealous, but I don’t recall.

@ACraigL If you can wait six months or so I imagine you’ll be able to get one here for $30.
@SSteve That’s the plan!
Bought my then-father-in-law a Sphero a few years ago, that seemed pretty fun.
/giphy sphero

@Kawa I got my nephew a Sphero Ollie and the Jedi wrist controller thingy. I was amazed how fast Ollie is!
@ruouttaurmind I purchased the Dark Ollie (of course) for my son on wOOt. It is still in the box as it is for xmas. Hopefully I didn’t get a dud.

Can it grab a beer for me from the refrigerator?
@daveinwarsh Nope, only malt liquor or mixed drinks.
Ya, @Knightp posted about it last October and I fell in love. Prices have become quite reasonable on eBay.

I want one of these… and a Least Weasel!
They could play together.
@PocketBrain That is just too freakin’ adorable!
