I don’t really like the term ghost, as it is so culturally loaded as meant to be feared. They are nothing to be afraid of. I prefer the word “spirit.” I have felt the spirit of every family member of mine who has passed on come say good-bye to me. My grandmother came to me, where I was thousands of miles from her home, walked through me, and briefly hugged me before moving on. My father stood in my living room and we had a conversation before he passed on. When I got the news of his passing, it was the first snowfall of winter and I was balling my eyes out. His spirit came to me and let me know it was okay, and that his spirit was in the nature all around me. The sense of peace was overwhelming and immediate. Don’t fear “ghosts” – embrace them and the messages they have for you. Or not. To each his own. YMMV.

My wife’s great Grandma was in her mid 90’s and was ready to go home. I was at a Parade/Firework show on July 2nd with my wife and her mom and whatnot. It was sprinkling on and off after the parade but before the firework show started. The rain stopped, the clouds cleared and there was a rainbow. About 20 min later my mother in law got the call that Granny had passed. Afterwards we watched an amazing firework show and just held everyone together a little tighter since the 4th was her favorite holiday.
Fast forward 7 years. My wife is pregnant with our 3rd kid but first daughter. We’d already determined her name was going to be the same as her beloved Granny. 3 weeks premature my wife goes into labor and delivers a healthy 6lb 0oz baby girl… On July 2nd.
@heartny Yeah but now Casper makes overpriced foam mattresses too. Probably perfect for Mehcro-fiber sheets. (disclaimer: I actually have a Casper mattress I bought at Costco and it seems pretty good…)
I’ve had, I’ll say weird or odd experiences, that at the time seemed very scary. When I was a kid (I was the oldest so remember it the most) we lived in a house that strange things happened a lot. Something banging on doors in the middle of night (mostly the bathroom door) only to find everyone fast asleep. Stuff falling off dressers (like fish bowls with fish in them) when no one was in the room. There was some stuff we saw too and at times a very strong presence of something not wanting us to be there if you were alone in the house (it’s the only way I can describe it). It was a house we rented and oddly enough I’ve known other people that have rented it too but never experienced anything. I also rented a house in Savannah about 6 years ago for a vacation and had some strange things happen in the middle of the night while sleeping that would get me out of bed and out of that house standing in the middle of the street contemplating if I wanted to go back in. I think the worst was something yanking my arm away from me along with the covers. I know it sounds like some paranormal activity shit but it fucking scared the shit out me. I don’t think I went back to sleep that night.
I’m not one to believe in paranormal, ghosts or anything outside is science. You’ll have to go with me on this one. We have this painted 1x4 with cabinet knobs attached to it where we hang our stockings. We got Christmas out the week before T-day but we couldn’t find this one board. I spent days looking for this thing. I looked in places I was certain it was not. I looked top to bottom in the room where it should have been. I moved stuff around and nowhere was it to be found. I spent at least an hour a day for two weeks trying to find this one missing Christmas decoration. My wife also spent considerable time looking for this board. I’d given up hope of finding it. Well just put our stockings on the floor by the tree and Santa will understand.
Last night I’m wrapping Christmas presents and there it is. It’s leaning against an old crib mattress in the storage room right as you walk in the door. I know I looked here. I know I looked behind this crib mattress. Just last week an old picture frame had fell and I was sweeping up glass right where this board was found.
My wife did not find it and put it there. She said if she had found it, she would have placed it on the wall where it belongs. My kids insist they did not place it there and I believe them because they are both scared to go into the furnace/storage room. No one has been in my basement I’m aware of.
If it is the paranormal, I have a suspicion who it might be. I can’t go into it here but if it is this person than thank you and I still miss you.
People swear my house is haunted. Granted I have heard footsteps going up and down the hall when nobody is here. Other people say that they hear somebody and feel somebody laying down in the bed next to them and can hear them breathing and nobody is there and they also say they hear footsteps and thought I was up walking around when I was not. I just think it is the house settling. And the house settling sounds like footsteps going up and down the hall. And sometimes the house settling makes things like the stack of paper plates fly across the room. And irritates the dogs so that they bark at a corner or at the closet. But I am sure my house is not really haunted because there is no such thing as ghosts. It is just the house settling. And it is the dogs that are moving items from one room to another. Because there are no such thing as a ghost.
my spirits are usually 90 proof and say bourbon on the label.
I saw Ghostbusters, does that count?

@GrandmaLyn I have another spirit story for you…

@show_the_maw Love it! This sort of thing is the spice of life.
I’m a ghost - boo
I believe in Casper, since he was a friendly ghost.

@Star2236 I freaking believe you.
Yup
I believed in ghosts until I was diagnosed with sleep paralysis. Does that mean the ghosts are in my head?
@Hype
I dunno… let me sleep on it…
Just ask the Russians about “The Ghost of Kiev”. (Yeah, I know it’s a fake story, but is it?)
I believe in Karma; but I don’t think that’s quite the same thing.
OTOH, some of the products I’ve gotten from Meh gave up the ghost kinda early.
I have a fun ghost story I could share if anyone wants to read a wall of text.
@show_the_maw YES!!

@show_the_maw Aaaww. Thanks for the mini-story.
Only on Halloween.

@fairchild521 If anybody wants to spend the night so they can know that the house is just settling it’s not really a ghost let me know.
@fairchild521 You forgot to log off, and a ghost wrote that second part.
@zhicks1987 you are right. I’m not letting anybody stay at my house
