you can absolutely shout out of a broken window in a space station in space, while not wearing a spacesuit and all, even if the space station is exploding into a space fireball, even if you have a bad feeling about this.

Some years ago (maybe over a decade now? fuck! I feel old), we were using the enterprise (corporate) version of Symantec Anti-Virus (SAVCE) and it needed a server that had to listen on a TCP port. To get around a bug in some versions of the AV client software that talked to this server, the TCP port number had to have the same value when encoded big endian or little endian (early days of sharing shit between systems based on Motorola CPUs and Intel CPUs).
Thus, I chose TCP port number 26985, which seemed to me to be an obvious choice, since it is the same thing coming and going, whether stored little or big end first plus it is a Good Thing. You see, 26985 is 0x6969.
I was later asked to document and explain this choice, which I did in a presentation to a number of senior-VP types. Fortunately for me, all of the people who got it thought it was funny and no one complained.
If someone wants me to explain this, I will, but I know YOU won't think it is funny.

We've found the whatsapp app (ironically, also a FB app) and skype (assuming you have good bandwidth) seem to work fine on the mainland. (Nothing gets blocked in HK... for now.) Whatsapp now does end to end encryption so we'll see how long it survives there.

I had dedicated so much time and effort into nurturing my streak, I wasn’t sure if I could let it go. But missing a click face is inevitable, so I decided that I could either do it with intention or without. If unintentional, there would be much grief, remorse and drinking. But if I chose euthanasia, I could set a future date to quit and give myself time to adjust to a life without clickage.
My streak was in the 640’s when I began to contemplate its demise. But when to kill it? On Meh’s birthday? On my birthday? Keep going to 1000? I even considered auctioning off the streak to the highest bidder. I’ve read many a thread started by those devastated by their broken streak. Maybe someone would be desperate enough to pony up some real cash, or at least a bottle of Captain Morgan, for my streak. Perhaps a Meh staffer seeking perfection would offer a lifetime supply of Fukus. In the end, I decided that a perfect streak must be earned, not bought, so die it must. Ultimately I picked a number that I felt comfortable with, one that was memorable, and one which @cranky1950 would approve of:

@Barney No, nothing happened, it was more of an experiment on my part. I began drastic cost-cutting measures in April, so VMP had to go (along with Netflix and my fancy salon hair stylist - ouch!). Since I didn’t miss the VMP at all, I kept going to see how much Meh I could live without. Every time I eliminated something, I would wait to see if I would regret it the next day, but never did. I’ve never been the most prolific poster, and didn’t expect anyone to notice that I was slipping away, so I am grateful that someone missed me! I still love most of you guys (and PURPLE), so I can’t quit you Meh. I’ll post less - I keep myself signed off so that I don’t accidently click the meh button again and ruin my 666 streak! You're lucky! I click Meh daily but every so often the counter will ignore a check-in. It will say I skipped a day but when I look, it shows that I clicked it that day.
