@eeterrific This model has been discontinued by DJI so this is a clearance sale for the P1. It is a great deal for this drone/aireal photo platform. just add a cheap gopro and mount. I have an FC40 Phantom (basically it is the same with an FPV smart Cam.) and added a better gopro for amazing aireal pictures and videos.
@cjrhoades Not gonna get a gps-enabled "drone" at a lower price point yet. There are cheaper quads, sure. But this is an excellent entry into the stable camera platform class of multirotor.
You know, having one of these would be cool and such. If only my teacher salary would allow such a ridiculous expense. I'd take one as a baby shower gift though, babies love quadcopters.
@studerc Start with a smaller drone like the Syma X5C or the Hubsan X4 H107L. They won't stretch a teacher's budget, and one 5-10 minute flight will brighten your busy day.
"Drones" used to be synonymous with "UAV," and "UAV" meant there had to be an equivalent "MAV" (not a real acronym). Equivalent, not necessarily exactly the same. Somehow, UAV never became popular outside of .mil channels, and drone morphed out of "RC." Weird. Right up there with WMD and the Surge on the list of jargon that did a serious terminalogical 180.
@saodell To me drones are 1) autonomous and 2) "mission"-based (as opposed to flying for fun) so I think if you squint at something like a Phantom, it's a drone. (In a few years, you won't have to squint, they'll be fully autonomous and delivering pizza and stuff.)

@unkabob Brushless motors are intrinsically water resistant, but you can bet on problems with the battery, power electronics, and radio. According to the Tom Clancy novel I have here, only special slow radios work underwater.
@mehod I'm highly skeptical that Zano will ship with the advertised features, whereas the Phantom 1.1.1 is a known quantity. Unfortunately neither is open-source or hacker friendly, though both are hackable.

Meh didn't actually sell out of drones last time, so perhaps that's why they're cheaper this time. It's not much of a discount (less than 5%), but it's something, I suppose.
@Pufferfishy You could by 3 this time, that would drive your acquisition cost down to 306.25 each (including shipping), Which is only 1.25 more than buying one today.
@Pufferfishy Actually, I don't think this is exactly the same one as last time. This is version 1.1.1. Original has the "NAZA-M Autopilot System" this one has the "NAZA-M v2 Autopilot System". Not sure what difference it makes.

So @JonT, any chance of dropping the price further in the next 45 days, since today's sales numbers seem to be bad?

@metal4427 I have the "light" version of that gimbal. It's basically the same configuration and contorller, but it's been skeletonized to reduce weight. I have it installed on my CX-20 (a Phantom clone) and even the light version is pretty heavy.
I'm more concerned that I'll need to have the GoPro attached with this rig to have it fly right. I'd hold off on the legs and other upgrades until you know you'll need them.
Good thinking, I bought a go pro Hero4 when Dealmac.com had it on sale for 300. You maybe able to go to Dick's sporting goods(depending what state you are in) and use a competitor coupon and knock down the price.

Got the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 at that other site with built in cameras. They fly great but rather boring after awhile.
@Mehrocco_Mole The AR drone isn't at this level... It's the high end of toy quads versus the low end of pro quads.
Still fun, though. And if it's boring, then probably good to not spend $300 on this one.

@rcworship The Elfdrone connects via bluetooth - limiting it's range to about 30m if you're lucky. This "meh drone" uses a much longer control range.

Are these to be used for aggressive/recreational flying? Or are they more for photography and controlled flying?
