Spending my 37th anniversary at the coast with my sweetie. My wife is at work tomorrow.
Just kidding. We planned a big day but a snowstorm got in the way. I took the day off and she wants to work so I’m going to drive her and then spend the day doing honey-dos.
@tweezak It may not sound as romantic, but doing service will probably*show love and caring better than flowers or chocolates or other traditional things. “It’s the little things,” they say. Of course, big things can help, too. Just work with what you’ve got (which you’re doing).
*(I can only say “probably” because of all the unknowns involved, “YMMV”, &c.)
@Tiamat114
Thanks for that. As an ER nurse I am well aware of the benefits.
Locally I’ve done over 60 pints and now do platelets whenever I can get to ‘the big city’. I joke that if you reach into my closet it’s a 50/50 shot the t-shirt you grab will be from Lifesouth.
@chienfou@Tiamat114 I’m glad you guys can do this. It’s important work. They can barely get the blood they need to run tests on me and I usually go home bruised.
@Fuzzalini@Tiamat114
Thankfully I’ve been blessed with great veins. In fact I used to tell people that the blind guy at the bloodmobile could stick me! Often lamented that I couldn’t loan one to some of the people I had to deal with in the ER.
@chienfou Lol. I have a couple T-shirts but I’m usually too embarrassed to wear them. I donate to Red Cross and I’m apparently part of the “Heroes for Babies” crew. My blood usually ends up in children’s hospitals from the donation tracking they send me.
My right arm is usually the pick but I make sure to use the left too sometimes. I don’t want the right to get too scuffed up too fast.
My only lament is I didn’t start regular donations 10 years sooner. High school had my first blood drive, but I didn’t give again after that for one until the last few years. It is never too late though. I’m glad I started up again
@Tiamat114 Donating blood is a gift straight from the heart!
(After writing that out I realized it better not actually come straight from the heart. It should do some traveling through your body first, since that will increase you chances of being a repeat donor.)
We’re going to a late lunch/early dinner to fujiyamas with the last reservation they at 3:30pm or would’ve had to wait until 9:30. That’s ok, we’re in our 60s so we like eating at odd hours. After dinner he’s taking me to see the Muana 2 movie and he promised me an ice cream dessert too. You don’t have to be young to have a nice date night.
We’ve had out of town company last few days (they are leaving today). SWMBO wants to spend some time out in the gardens and we haven’t really had any time to do anything since getting back from our last trip Sunday. Left the heater on so will do a strint in the hot tub to finish up the afternoon. Probably end the evening with some time in front of the projector watching the new Reacher Resident Alien episodes.
@macromeh
Yeah… Maybe it’s the novelty wearing off bit is didn’t seem quite as ‘fresh’ but it’s still pretty damn funny overall.
Favorite quote so far. “Does Yellowstone have turtles?”
yes/no…
not V-day itself, but, I took this week off w/pay, she has every weds/thurs off. so i booked us an Airbnb at a little lake in the area for Tues/weds night.
it was an enjoyable time.
@bayportbob Same.
Besides, yesterday was MIL’s birthday (90!) and tomorrow is our middle daughter’s birthday, so Valentine’s usually kind of gets lost in the shuffle.
After yet another year of social conditioning culminating in a media blitz yesterday to chide me into spending the right amount of money to prove my commitment, I have once again become comfortably numb.
Yesterday, while watching NBC morning programming, a handsome, ambiguously gay guy told me what I need to do to prove my love to my totally female, heterosexual wife. Turns out a dozen or more Roses flown in from Colombia @$90.00 is a good start. Accompanying the Roses a card is required, capturing all the essence of love, respect, and admiration with just a hint of capitulation for being a dumb and unthoughtful man the other 363 days (anniversary card required for the other day) I then learned on the local programming show, that a wine festival is happening and that I need to go and bring the spouse to show my creative, out of the box thinking, with a well thought out plan to cement my relationship. As a bonus they told me the alcohol will greatly increase the likelihood of intercourse. The festival has a $20 each entry fee where you get to walk around all the local vineyard
booths and purchase bottles of wine. Sounds very romantic!
The gay guy also told me all these thoughts I’ve just expressed are unacceptable. If I don’t get in line I will certainly face a lonely and sad life when my wife leaves to pursue a real man who gets it.
Happy Valentines Day!
Oh yeah big plans. We both have mono, the glands in my throat and nerve are thankfully starting to feel a bit better with the steroid shots I’ve been getting but boyfriend is going through the worst of it right now, he’s about a week behind me.
I’m making crunch wraps for dinner and hopefully I have enough energy to make some 4 ingredient mouse. After that when I’m completely drained out of energy I’ll probably pass out on the couch.
He did bring me home two big beautiful bouquets of flowers yesterday for me to cut and strip the leaves off before I put them in the vase.
After the eye doctor appointment where they stick a needle in my eye ! Yes that’s happening today. I get an eye injection ever 10 weeks so I don’t lose my vision in my left eye. Anyway, we’re having Heart shaped pizza for dinner from Lou Malnati’s! Flowers & chocolates will wait for the clearance sale! Happy VD to you all!
@ItalianScallion Thanks for the support. Things went fine just a little sore today. Dinner was great!
If you get the cravings for Lou’s they ship! I send my kids pizza for birthdays and holidays from East to West coasts all the time. Prices include shipping! Tastesofchicago.com
Thanks @jkawaguchi! They’re quite pricey, but it will make a nice splurge once in a while. Are Lou’s thin crust pizzas worth the price or should I stick to their (excellent) deep dish?
After working in restaurants, no. Amateur night is not for me. Especially in the Portland metro area. It’s like living an episode of Portlandia. Also we’re not big on the greeting card holiday as a whole. I don’t need the Englishman to buy me chocolates or jewelry in the middle of February to know that he loves me. It’s when he gets me tickets to an amazing show, randomly shows up with a plant, or takes me out for a drive so we can just talk and I can decompress that it really counts. I love the random acts when I least expect it. But kudos to those who do. It’s just not my jam.
@sillyheathen one might be tempered to think that’s an uppity response, but having been one of the amateurs working the kitchen on Valentine’s evening, I concur! The last few times we went out for Valentine’s dinner, we went out the night before or after. Very relaxed for us and I’m sure better for the kitchen!
I’m waiting for half price chocolate day.
@kjady
We’re going out for a nice dinner.
Um … You misspelled Singles Awareness Day. (SAD)

Married…twenty…four…years. Bought 50 roses from Costco. I hope she and my daughter like them.
I’m buying lotto tickets today. I usually buy them on the 13th, but the day got away from me.

I didn’t get a lot done today but they were things she can’t do and she really appreciated it.
First day I’m eligible to donate blood again, so that’s the plan. Nothing else beyond that of note or interest
@Tiamat114

@Katyboomboom
One benefit of an early dinner is it makes a late dessert much more appealing!
I have really big plans!! Once she regains consciousness she will find out about those plans!!
I plan on staring in a mirror for at least an hour blowing kisses to myself…
… Oh I also plan to take the wife out for dinner.
@OnionSoup
@chienfou @OnionSoup
That’s awesome.
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
@chienfou I have never seen that before, but I love it! Thank you for sharing.
@xobzoo
It really tickled the crap out of me the first time I saw it…

@chienfou Prepare to be underwhelmed. (At least I found the last season to be kind of lame in comparison to earlier ones.)

Nope

Comfortably Numb
Why, yes! I had the house septic tank pumped out this morning.
… And the jokes just write themselves.
@rockblossom Your household is no longer full of shit?
Oh, you said the jokes write themselves. That means I’m not needed to supply any.
@xobzoo My day definitely got a lot less crappy after the job was done!
@rockblossom @xobzoo Seen on the back of a local septic tank pumping truck:
“Satisfaction or double your sewage back!”
@macromeh @rockblossom @xobzoo Sounds Like a threat!

@Star2236 what is a 4 ingredient mouse?
@moonhat @Star2236 4 ingredient mousse. There are a whole lot of recipes out there for it.

@jkawaguchi Oooh…, Lou Malnati’s! I was in Chicago last month and had Giordano’s for the first time. Lou does it better! I hope the injection goes ok.
@ItalianScallion Thanks for the support. Things went fine just a little sore today. Dinner was great!

Not a fan of the think crust version. My fav is Chicgo Classic deep dish! They do have Garrett’s cheese popcorn worth the price for a special treat
