I live just a few miles north of DFW airport. No problems here, I don't even see any twigs blown off the trees. The real damage was about 30 miles east.
The worst of it missed me by about 10 miles, all I got here was a thunderstorm and some quality time with my hall closet. From what I remember of areas Meh staffers have mentioned living, it should have missed them too. It's pretty bad in some places, my prayers are with everyone who was affected. Here's hoping our whole community is safe and warm (and have power!) today!
I think the aide stations are fully stocked on supplies, but if anyone here was affected and needs help with clearing debris or something to get back into your home, let me know
@mehbee aww, thanks. Really, though, I just don't like sitting here, looking around at my place that was completely untouched knowing there are people so close who are really suffering right now.
I do hope our meh/diocre staffers are all okay as well. How about it @MEHcus, @hollboll, @galmaegi, @Moose, @ChadP, @Harrison, @Katylava - did you all survive the holiday then the storm? (I don't really expect a response before Monday - it is a holiday weekend after all.)
@sammydog01 It's nice that she popped in to let everyone know that she's alright. @Del - glad to know you're okay!
I don't get the "just saying" part though - if you're "just saying" that because her situation allowed her to do that, that it's somehow bad that the mehployees haven't, I'll "just say" that's not a fair comparison, as we don't know what they're up to or where their priorities are. I do know that in emergencies, I tend to focus on what's in front of me, then my non-local family, and maybe, if I have internet, time and nothing else pressing - online communication. OR - they're fine and with their families and still celebrating holiday time. Which is also a good thing to do. Patience, friend. I understand the worry - but there is quite literally nothing you can do right now except hope that everyone is okay.
@Thumperchick@sammydog01 - Don't know if you have anyone's FB info, but there's that safety check feature where people in disasters can check in. Can't tell if they've activated it for this occurrence.
Lots of weird stuff coming from Texas over the weekend... Tornados, 4 inches of snow, the video of the tornado stormchaser who almost got stabbed on the job o_O
@FroodyFrog There is a picture floating around facebook of the map showing all the severe weather alerts we had yesterday calling it the day Texas had all four seasons at once. I didn't hear about that last one though, eek.
@FroodyFrog Just... wow. And I don't blame you about the facebook thing, I just came off about a year's hiatus and didn't really miss it much. I really like it for keeping in touch with out of town friends and family though. Here's the picture I was talking about:
Not directly in Dallas, but today's storms put DFW airport in a full ground halt, which left me stuck down here in South Texas for two more days! Had the weather been more like Christmas day I'd be more than happy, however this cold and wind are no fun. It's quite sad when the weather where I live in Virginia is better than that of South Texas.
@blandreth94 Chicago airport shutdown too bc weather. That means I sat in a plane on tarmac in mountains beautiful here in Rockies. But then we had to get off as everything cancelled.My sister off skiing and out of cell range. Finally late afternoon she got back and came and got us. It was wall to wall people in the airport. The Dallas flights all cancelled too of course. Super fun way to spend the day. Can't get a flight out til wed. Lucky we have a place to stay. Cat sitter ok to keep coming but storm at home too.
Crazy weather lots of places Anyone else hung up somewhere bc o'hare?
All safe here, the wife and I were both out of town but it missed where we live by about 20 miles. Hit just a few miles away from where I grew up though. Thankfully everyone I know in the area is safe as well.
We're in East Plano. We got the sirens and even something we couldn't hear coming over the alert speaker. The wife insisted we get into the downstairs half bath (it's pretty much innermost in our two-story townhouse duplex). I've been near some badass storms and tornadoes; I don't think we were in danger where we were even though we were technically in the warning area. Garland is closeish to us and Rowlett a little farther away, but we just got a bunch of rain when it was all said and done.
I'm doing okay here. Thanks @Thumperchick! Even my dad heard the news from Korea and called me to check in the other day. Looks like the Dallas tornades made international news.
I live on the other side of Garland (about 10 miles or so from the area that got hit). The sirens were going off and all of our cell phones were going nuts from the alerts but we just had some crazy wind and rain. My heart goes out to all those that were affected. It was a scary night.
It was just a mile to the east of us in Wylie. It was pretty scary as it was raining hard and then it sounded like hail. I opened the back door to see how big the hail was and then the sirens started going off. Turned on the TV and said it would be here about 7:07. It was 7:02 at the time. Gathered everyone and the pets and put everyone in the bathroom. All the sudden no more hail and took another peak out the back door and it was raining heavy with lots of wind and all of the sudden it was like time stood still. It stopped raining and the wind stopped blowing and I could see the neighbors flag as still as it is on a calm day. Erie quiet and all you could hear where the sirens going off and nothing else. All the sudden you could see the lighting and storm moving towards us. It veered north east and we really got lucky on this one.
I live in Rowlett, but was luckily away visiting family out of state. The maps I've seen of the tornado's path put it less than a mile from my house. We've heard that our house is fine, but I do dread seeing the area when I get back tomorrow.
I live a good distance away from where any of the tornadoes hit. Nasty storms, but avoided all the really bad stuff. Appreciate you checking in, though.
If y'all meher's need help up in the northerner part of Texas --I am not working right now so I can help with clean up or whatever.. Was in Athena Texas yesterday and the feeder roads in Richland area still were under water. Unbelievable !!

Seriously. I have tools and... hands and stuff
@Kleineleh And a good heart!

@Del checked in on Woot yesterday. Just saying.

@KDemo don't think it activated for this, but I can confirm that I'm okay :)
@hollboll - So wait - That warehouse video was not real? I was so worried. Thanks for checking in ;-)
@KDemo santabot is REAL!
@thismyusername - Maybe sinister santabot got tornadoe'd back to Oz.
@KDemo
Like Daleks, santabot is also misunderstood.
@KDemo Let's just say he may have won the battle but not the war.
Cold and wet but doing just fine! Here I was complaining about shorts weather on Christmas...
@Moose glad you're alive. Do you have your floaties handy?
@Moose
Lots of weird stuff coming from Texas over the weekend...
Tornados, 4 inches of snow, the video of the tornado stormchaser who almost got stabbed on the job o_O
@Moose Glad you're safe! And yeah, I started my car this morning with the a/c still cranked up. That was unpleasant.

@Kleineleh
I got rid of my Facebook account (and all links associated it wiped from public Google results) mid 2014, so you'll forgive me if i haven't seen it.
Here's the video:

Wow, that's ridiculous, and not in a good way :/
@FroodyFrog Yeah, it was a little crazy

I live on the far north side of Dallas, and we had some warnings and wind but no real issues. Just a lot of rain and wind.
It rained in San Diego, yesterday. THE END IS NIGH!
If y'all meher's need help up in the northerner part of Texas --I am not working right now so I can help with clean up or whatever.. Was in Athena Texas yesterday and the feeder roads in Richland area still were under water. Unbelievable !!
@AttyVette -- sorry Athens not Athena
