I just noticed they are on experiment #5, Rush. Not sure what the other 4 were. Link to Dailysteals experiment #5
Huh. I check them daily and never noticed that. Thanks!
I got an email from them today about experiment #5. So I played the game. Got one email later saying I didn't get picked. Then a little while later I got one saying I did get picked. I'm not convinced it is on the up and up.
Plus, there is an article on their blog (that I am having trouble linking here) about daily deal sites being dead and their plan for experiments in the area. Sounds very familiar. Like I said, I can't link it or I would. But if you look at the bottom of their site, the blog link is there.
I'd be interested to here from meh/mediocre on this.
@pitamuffin http://www.dailysteals.com/blog
@pitamuffin The same thing happened to me, but the page explained that each winner had half an hour to claim the product or someone else got it. Personally, I wouldn't send the rejections until all the products had been bought. (With its new design, I didn't think the page had a bottom.)
@Ignorant Thank you. Not sure why I had a problem with it. And I see I spelled some words wrong, too. Guess I shouldn't post when I have a headache. @editorkid That makes sense. Did you order the item?
@pitamuffin I did -- my expectations are pretty low, but I can throw away a buck every now and then.
Anyone buy any of these before?
http://www.dailysteals.com/collection/1280/Mystery-Box
@sushiboy don't do it
@RedHot Too late, I bought it and got my crap a week ago. Eddie Bauer wallet, sticky pad for your dash, VuPoint EZ secure computer lock, fake Ray Ban waferers, Samsung mini micro USB cable.
@sushiboy you did better than my wife. those are usually in line with Woot's latest attempt at selling random themed boxes.
@RedHot The wallet and sunglasses are selling for $10 on their site. The EZ lock and the sticky pad is selling for $5. So I got about $30 something worth of product but I won't use or need any of it.
@sushiboy I bought one of those a while back- $10 got me a vegetable spiralizer, an egg separator, sticky dashboard pad, micro usb cable and sunglasses. I'll use it all except the micro usb, so I guess I did okay.
@Pony I was able to request a refund for my box yesterday. They'll refund me $8.50 haha. I was surprised they would refund me.
Is anyone else here still playing Rush?
@Thumperchick I was in on the last one. Got my first of five "losers circle" entries. At the moment, something seems to have gone horribly wrong over there. So who knows if there'll be another.
@Thumperchick Right now the whole site is really, really dead.
@Thumperchick I am, but haven't yet checked into the Dropcam thing they've got going. (Pauses, turns, taps link on email, unpauses) OK, yeah, seems to be pretty unavailable here too.
@Thumperchick i reserved a spot for the dropcam thing and the whole site went kaput.
@Thumperchick I got the email today for the PS4 rush, went to get in on it and it had already changed to the Dropcam rush. I guess it didn't take them long to hit the threshold on that one. (Or "treshold" as it says in their email, which is just one of the reasons I am still leery of them.)
@pitamuffin I did get the $1 helicopter above -- very quickly too. Haven't had a chance to try it because February arrived three months early in Chicago this year. (Season. Whatever. Anyway, the RC copters I bought from Woot when I was young and naive truly sucked, so anything better than being pissed off means it was a win.)
@pitamuffin i've ordered from them before quite a while ago. if i remember correctly, it did take quite a while to get the items. but, i did get the stuff and didn't have any issues with it. so, if you don't mind slow ass shipping, there's some decent deals to be had.
@pitamuffin That email didn't go out until it was almost over. That was the first one I realllllly hoped I got.
Yeah, their site is still down. I think they got the traffic they asked for.
@Thumperchick it's back now, but no active rush at the moment. EDIT: dropcam rush is back now
@Thumperchick If there was something between the headphones and dropcam, I missed it. Meh. Not my fault if their site is flaky. Probably @cengland0 's fault.
@walarney PS4 for $55
@editorkid Ha, tell me about it! I'm from suburban Chicago. But, at least we don't live in Buffalo.
I love their attention to detail
"The collection you where trying to visit has expired. Sorry!"
Holy crap! I won Rush! Got the Dropcam. Now I have to find someone who wants it, and sell it to them.
@Thumperchick congrats. I haven't scored anything yet from there
@Thumperchick Congrats!!!!!! their still waiting for the last one
@Thumperchick Sweet! I'll trade you Rush prize for Rush prize, your Dropcam for my unused $1 helicopter...
@editorkid I'll get right on that ;)
@Thumperchick @editorkid it says experiment over? it that just for tonight right I mean I haven't really had a chance yet
@Foxborn If you read the page, it's got FAQ's and will explain how it all works.
@Thumperchick Nice! I'm hoping they do another PS4. My kid would freak if he ended up with one for Christmas after I already told him not a chance in hell.
@Thumperchick Nice! Did you get it on the first round? It took forever to finally get a buyer for the last one. I sat and waited, to no avail.
@Cinoclav @Thumperchick @Foxborn @editorkid @pitamuffin @stryper2000 another one just started, 3000 people threshold 5 winners, pebble watch $13
@TaRDy Already on it! Thanks though!
@Cinoclav I think I was in the first round, but really I wasn't watching after the site locked up. They sent me an email telling me I had 10 minutes to get on it. By the time I saw that email, I had 4 and half minutes.
@Thumperchick Still have that dropcam for sale?
@studerc It hasn't shipped yet, so uh, yeah it's still available.
@Thumperchick Congrats on your win. I'd love an update when it ships. I'm still interested in learning if this is all one big scam or they actually deliver.
@DaveInSoCal I'm wondering that, too. The confirmation email said 7-10 business days for processing, so we'll see in about 2 weeks.
@DaveInSoCal I've won. They deliver. Very quickly. Not sure about how a scam would work here. Of course, with the holiday and maybe Friday, 10 business days might be more than two calendar weeks if it does take that long.
@editorkid great! I like the rush game.
@DaveInSoCal Yeah, me too! It's a great idea. Except when it's something no one wants like the Apple TV yesterday... I could feel myself aging while that total climbed. But I'm glad @lichme here won one. All I've won was the $1 helicopter, which I haven't even looked at yet, but I'll give them credit -- that and a refurb Apple Extreme router I bought the same day showed up really fast. The e-mails were slow, but the actual deliveries were faster than Woot or here.
@studerc @DaveInSoCal The Dropcam arrived today!It's new, in unopened packaging.
@Thumperchick that's awesome! Congrats on the win!
@Thumperchick what do you want for it? :)
@studerc shoot me a message at thumperchickwastaken @ gmail.
New rush is up. It's an Audio Technica Auto Turntable http://www.dailysteals.com/rush
@Thumperchick if only there was a "meh" button there.
@Thumperchick Filling up fast!
@pitamuffin Done
SONOS Play:1 rush is up: http://www.dailysteals.com/rush
@carl669 this is an interesting experiment they're running. I have no use or interest in the sonos, but it had great reviews and is deeply discounted so I'd probably buy it if i got the email.
@DaveInSoCal same here. my most likely reason will be to resell it.
@carl669 At this point I'm still watching just to see how long it'll take to finally sell all 6. Pretty ridiculous that people play but don't watch to see if they won. Some of these items have eBay moneymaker written all over them!
@carl669 @DaveInSoCal I would actually use it if I won, so feel free to ping me if either of you get one.
@editorkid I would have used the Sonos. I would have likely sold the turntable. Once upon a time someone stole all my records. :(
@Cinoclav That sucks. Still got mine... on crappy weather days I'll grab a few and digitize them. Coulda used a new turntable myself. But I've been watching Sonos since their earliest days and I don't think I've ever seen any worthwhile discount on 'em, so this one really caught my eye.
@editorkid Didn't win it. 3 losses in a row and I'm most of the way to the loser's circle, so I've got that going for me.
@DaveInSoCal I'm 4 losses in. But I would have given that all up for either the turntable or the Sonos. (Or both. I'm just that kind of guy.)
Did anyone else try to sign up using their google login? It was disturbing how little effort they put into configuring it from the default (at least the text implies default). They ask for WAY too many permission on your account. Meh does it the right way!
it went from a rush, to a gallop, to a trot, to a slow saunter. and now, i'm pretty sure this horse is dead.
@carl669 That or they don't rush on the weekend.
@carl669 They clearly have more planned, since they're promising the Loser's Rush for people who have five losses. @Thumperchick's right. Everyone gets a day off.
Beats PowerBeats 2 Headphones up now. 6800 threshold, 5 winners, $36
@wilstev It's over and all the winners have already been picked.
@cengland0 And none of them were me. :( I blame you.
Apple TV with a threshold of 5300, 10 winners. $17. Currently about 3150 reserved. Go go go! @editorkid @cengland0 @Thumperchick @carl669 @TaRDy @DaveInSoCal @Cinoclav @pitamuffin @studerc @Foxborn @stryper2000 @walarney @OldCatLady @sushiboy @Pony @RedHot @Stumpy91
@wilstev I'm in- thanks! :)
@wilstev Sweet, just have to lose this one and that makes 5 finally...loser's circle here i come.
@wilstev you're awesome! I received your email through the meh notification and still haven't received the email from dailysteals.
This could be my 5th loss also, so losers circle up next!
@wilstev awesome, I got a spot, thanks! This will be my first!
@wilstev Thanks!
@wilstev thank you, better email service than theirs
@wilstev thanks for the tag!
@wilstev Thanks for the heads up. Though ironically I saw this thread at the top of the forum and that was my first clue. :) Btw, I'm already 6 losses in and I've yet to see them offer a losers circle. They promised one yesterday but apparently it didn't happen.
@wilstev After this loss, I'll surely be in the losers circle.
@cengland0 No problem guys. Glad to spread the losses around. If anyone loses their streak before making it into the winner's circle...well we all know who to blame for that. ;-)
@wilstev I'm in, even before I had my coffee. Thanks! Waiting to lose is always fun.
@wilstev Hours later and I still got in. Thanks for the heads up, as I got no email either.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't get an email from dailysteal this morning about the rush.
I've also lost 5 so I'm in the loser circle and I think this WILL be my 6th loss.
@sushiboy I got no email either. What a jank-ass site. ;)
@medz @sushiboy I've only received one rush notification since discovering it on Thursday
@wilstev Same here
i've lost more than 5 rushes and no invite to the loser's circle yet. anyone know if you get an email or are you automatically in once you lose 5? oh, and props to @wilstev for the heads up this morning.
This rush is building slowly.
@DaveInSoCal More like this...
@Cinoclav Woot has not one but two crappy smart tv platforms for sale today, so everyone who hadn't already gotten one is covered, I guess.
@editorkid Ironically, this past Sunday I finally got around to hooking up my Fire TV.
@Cinoclav only need 807 more people to click now
@Kidsandliz 763... this is taking foreeeeeverrrr...
If only I felt like using all my disposable email addresses to register for this. I could really bump the odds in my favor. I just don't have the desire to put in all that effort.
@Cinoclav
This one's like watching a faucet drip. Don't I have more important things to do today?
@walarney well your faucet is about ready to stop dripping - 12 left to go.
@Kidsandliz And we rush!
@pitamuffin If it took this long to reach the threshold, how many rounds do you suppose this will take before they are all claimed?
@walarney Only 2 claimed the first time around. I'm gonna guess 4 rounds.
@wilstev I play with 2 accounts, all you have to do if you have gmail is add a + sign afterwards and they all go to the same account: tardy@gmail.com would be tardy+something@gmail.com (I wish I had that email address)
So anyone here win one?
@Kidsandliz not me
@wilstev Nope
@Kidsandliz Not me.
nope. if i do, i'd be willing to buy it for someone. i don't really have a need for it.
@Kidsandliz 0-6 now.
@sushiboy Not yet, you still have a chance. Not much claiming going on.
I'll never get why people play but don't claim it when they won.
@Cinoclav Maybe they run out of time and have to leave, so they don't know they won?
@Cinoclav @pony , or they are explaining something to a co-worker and miss the email during that 10 minute window.
@TaRDy Ouch!
I have brought shame to myself for the second time this week. I missed the email saying that I won while helping explain something to a co-worker. First my broken Meh streak, now this.
@TaRDy Thanks, by missing it, you allowed me to win!
@TaRDy Aw, damn. :(
@lichme at least it is going to a fellow meh kickstarter, maybe my original account will win the next round.
@TaRDy Keeping it all in the meh family, so that's good. Congrats @lichme!
@TaRDy Cover your head in shame
Thanks! I just registered to see if I could beat the odds. Now I have to find out what AppleTv is about.
@lichme Congrats! :)
@lichme congrats I have yet to win anything from there yet
@lichme Nice!
@lichme congraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaats.
@lichme this is me for the rest of the day
@carl669 caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarl
@lichme They put one here in the office. It's basically a 2nd rate Roku. Apple kids love it cause you can cast your screen to it.
@lichme You really are a lucky SOB.
@medz So it's like a very expensive chromecast?
@sushiboy @lichme Seriously... You do seem to have the good luck. From a first time play and win to how many BoC's. Plus, didn't you get a letter in one of your bags?
@Cinoclav I've played rush quite a few times. The woot BOC isn't really luck, it's a system. I did get a letter in my Fuku bag, but I wouldn't exactly call that lucky either lol. I'll most likely give it away in a contest or something.
@DaveInSoCal Yeah. Even my Roku 3 can mirror my Android device.
@lichme Ah, you said you 'just registered to see if you could beat the odds.' Sounded like that was your first Rush. Congrats btw!
@Cinoclav Thanks! I meant for that particular rush, since I had no desire to own an AppleTV
@lichme I'd say the BoC is a bit more than a system, it's also having the time to play the games they so often require now. There was a point in my life where I was doing what you and Conan do, giving product info every night. My now measly 220 quality posts once ruled the land. Then the real world took over once again and I couldn't stay up until 1 am every night. Nowadays I really truly dislike what the site has become in the way of sales so I rarely venture there. Matter of fact, I just today discovered the new holiday thing going on. (Santa Sedition for me apparently) I like the people and miss a lot of the interaction but it seems like the best of the bunch have picked up over here, making things just mehvelous.
@Cinoclav Some of us have different noms de folie on here vs. on Woot
@OldCatLady ?
@Cinoclav Maybe @OldCatLady meant to say nom de plume, which would make more sense as it would mean they have different usernames on here and on woot.
@dashcloud Nope, my usage was precise. 'Nom-de-folie: A French expression meaning 'madness name.'
@OldCatLady I understood your meaning. I just questioned it as I didn't think it was all that relevant. There are many, many users here with the same or slightly modified names. A few different names doesn't change the overall dynamics.
@OldCatLady Thanks for correcting me- I learned something new today!
It is a good thing they don't do fuku's this way… Anyone without a lot of time on their hands would be clean out of luck.
I just got a "message" while waiting for the last ATV to be claimed. It was for an RC helicopter deal -- nothing special. But kind of surprising.
@walarney I got the same msg. At least it showed a picture of a hot chick playing with it.
@walarney Maybe that was from a losers circle rush?
@lichme No, it's for a deal that they already have.
@walarney I got that too.
@walarney yeah. i got that too. the bad part was, i was away from my desk when it came up. so, i have no idea how long it was there or who saw it.
@walarney Me too. Don't want a helicopter. But for the love of God, would someone please claim that last one?!?! I have things to do, and I just know as soon as I leave, I'll get that winning message. Damn this experiment.
@walarney The other picture of a hot girl was even better. :)
Looks interesting: I just signed up. Thanks!
loser's circle rush starts at 1713 EST.
@everyoneinthisthread (<--- this should really be a thing)
@carl669 That should be a thing! Just saw the email - 1 in 5 chance at a cheap movie ticket - pretty meh.
@carl669 Yeah, it should have been a thing. I missed it. (You might want to post that idea somewhere else. I don't think any Meh employess are reading this thread.)
@carl669 I like the idea a lot, but I see a movie or two a year, so stayed away.
@carl669 Maybe @everyoneinthisthread should click the subscribe envelope at the top, so we all see new posts here? Oh, wait... that envelope isn't there! WTH? @JonT, did @Cengland0 take away the button?
@carl669 got my notification of the losers circle. Even if the movie was free, I wouldn't go for it.
@carl669 i skipped it. I have a stack of movie passes i already never use.
So uh, I won that rush, in the 2nd round. I'm 2:10. Hate me yet?
@Thumperchick yes
@carl669
@Thumperchick Which one?
@Cinoclav losers rush, i think. $3 for a $15 movie pass.
@Cinoclav The losers rush. $3 for $15 movie pass. @DaveInSoCal was correctumundo.
@Thumperchick Hooray!
I'd like to be added to the @ notification list when there's a new rush. kthxbye.
Here's the new one! http://www.dailysteals.com/rush
@editorkid @cengland0 @Thumperchick @carl669 @TaRDy @Cinoclav @pitamuffin @studerc @Foxborn @stryper2000 @walarney @OldCatLady @sushiboy @Pony @RedHot @Stumpy91 @wilstev new rush
@DaveInSoCal @jsh139 - RUSH LIVE NOW
@DaveInSoCal Tag me next time please, dawg.
@DaveInSoCal Thanks for the tag!
@DaveInSoCal thanks! although i have a feeling it's going to be a LONG time before they hit the threshold.
@carl669 seriously, see you guys next friday and thank you @DaveInSoCal
@DaveInSoCal wonder if this will take all night. not staying up… even though clicked
@DaveInSoCal Thanks.. Maybe it will fill up by the time I get up in 5 hours...
@medz RUSH LIVE RIGHT NOW
@Thumperchick Thanks ;)
@Thumperchick my pleasure!
@medz will do, sorry. Tough to get everyone with my phone
@DaveInSoCal Thanks for the tag but I'd like to opt out of any future posts. I only do these when it's a product I actually want for myself and there aren't many of those. Thanks for thinking of me, though, as I know a lot of folks buy to gift or resell.
@editorkid sorry, and no problem. Hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving!
@DaveInSoCal A wonderful one indeed, and the same to you and yours!
@DaveInSoCal Thanks!
@DaveInSoCal You don't need to 'rush' and signup -- with just over 1000 'reserves' (shouldn't that be reservations?) each hour and a threshold of 44,444. At that rate, there are two more days available to signup... I guess they are referring to the rush to pay after you've been chosen as a winner...
@Pony welcome!
@benplant yeah, this one could take a while. Kinda disappointing. Although the odds are never great, these seem exceptionally terrible.
@Thumperchick Thanks!
The mediocre forums have a way to subscribe for updates on posts. I wonder why for they don't have that here...
@medz we should relocate this thread to that forum. I'll create it now...
@DaveInSoCal Splendid idea! That one can be used for announcements only and general chit-chat can be done here to avoid spamming folks.
@DaveInSoCal Not to steal Dave's thunder, but here's a link to the notification thread he created: https://mediocre.com/forum/topics/dailysteals-comrush-notification-thread
@mediobarkre thanks! I forgot, so i appreciate you picking up my slack.
Hmm here we are 6 hours later and they have only had 10% of the available clicks used… at that rate it will be 52 more hours… Methinks they are aiming too high for the number of subscribers they hope to round up.
@Kidsandliz Yeah, way too high. But it's certainly one I'd like to win.
@Kidsandliz They're still waiting for 28k+ people to sign up for this rush.
@pitamuffin yeah me too. It is the only way I'll have anything small with internet - don't have a smart phone either… unfortunately.
@Kidsandliz wonder how many people have signed up under multiple email addresses for this… of course with those odds doing that still won't help much.
@Kidsandliz This is going to drag out even longer, because it will take several hours longer for them to get 22 winners out of that many entries.
@DaveInSoCal yeah especially if it finishes at, day, 3am or something...
woo! 45% of the way there!
New experiment: steal-a-thon. Sounds mysteriously like a woot-off, so I think there's enough data on this particular subject but whatevs. http://www.dailysteals.com/steal-a-thon
Here's a list of some previous and upcoming experiments: http://www.dailysteals.com/experiments
On the topic of "other" deal a day sites, check out woot's current shirt. http://shirt.woot.com/offers/meh-christmas-and-a-crappy-new-year
I wonder if they know...
@diadem What, that there's a competitor named Meh? Sure. That the word "meh" has a thriving existence outside meh.com? Sure.
So I did the usual thing with an online store that I might buy from and googled complaints
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Daily_Steals
http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.dailysteals.com
http://dailysteals.pissedconsumer.com
It would seem to be prudent to pay with paypal and not your credit card unless your credit card is good about stopping payment/returning your money/dealing with disputes. Also they don't apparently warn you that some of what they sell is used - not refurbished, but used - at times really used and/or broken. They have a 14 day return period that starts the day you order and it can take as long or longer than meh to even get the item. Unlike meh which at least responds to customer service complaints - even if they take a couple of days - apparently a number of people never got any response from dailysteals.
And while these sites list complaints from pissed off customers and not the happy ones (so we don't know what % are unhappy - it could be high or low), the fact that nearly all of them are complaining about the same kinds of things would lead me to believe there is a risk level buying from them and it would be prudent to protect yourself financially with respect to only using payment methods where you are likely to get your money back if there is a problem you can't resolve.
@Kidsandliz I have always gotten my orders, eventually, in working order. That said, I make sure to use PayPal every time I order from them, or any of their sub sites.
@Thumperchick what are their subsites?
@Kidsandliz Anything owned by JamminButter, iirc.
@Kidsandliz Bought more than a dozen items from them over the last few years and have had not a single problem. I vaguely remember that an early shipment or two was a little slow, but I'm not a @TwistedLisa kind of person. I'm as fine buying there as I am buying here.
@editorkid
@editorkid That name is like Voldermort, we don't speak it, lest we invite it back!
@Thumperchick But it's not really going to be a problem, is it, @TwistedLisa? Besides, cats are alowed to play with prey before it's taken away and disposed of in a genteel fashion. I think of her as a real-life Irk -- the occasional appearance would be most entertaining.
@Thumperchick Think you are confusing deal sites; Jammin' Butter has "That Daily Deal" and "Deadly Deals" (among others) and is located in Tennessee, but "Deadly Steals" is out of California and is under the "Chaos Commerce" umbrella.
@Kidsandliz Reseller ratings and pissed consumer aren't great for deciding a site's trustworthyness. I know amazon is a bit of a "site non grata" around here, but it is generally accepted as one of the most trustworthy places for online shopping- only 5 out of 10 on reseller ratings and big numbers with no resolved issues on pissed consumer
@Pantheist when you look at the specific issues they have over and over and over with the pissed customers there is a trend. As I said in my original post, we don't know what % of customers are ticked off at them. It could be high it, it could be low… the fact that the complaints were nearly all similar, to me, indicates an area where they need work. Since it involves lack of refunds, not receiving products and lack of refunds, broken stuff and lack of refunds… that says to me if you chose to buy from them, use a form of payment where you are pretty sure you can get your money back.
Boarding a plane. 5 hour flight then 1 hour layover then 1 hour flight. This 44k rush is the pits.
@DaveInSoCal Ha! At the going rate it should fill in about 5.6 hours. On the bright side, there's a ridiculously slim chance of winning.
@Cinoclav 8 hours from when you posted 41,705...
@Kidsandliz holy crap this rush sucks
@DaveInSoCal I'm guessing this will be the one I win and I will be asleep and not get to buy it
@DaveInSoCal Yeah, not to mention its also going to ruin the Rushes forever considering there are 30,000 + new users.
@Cinoclav more like second and third accounts for the same people, but yeah, probably.
@Cinoclav although many may be disgusted to have the thing end in the middle of the night and not bother again…also it's like watching the grass grow when it takes so long to get to the quota.
Actually I've pooled 6 2 minute samples the past hour, at the going rate in all 6 it was 13-15 hours left to fill with a average of 6-7 reserves per minute. Hoping for a afternoon rush but once it gets late it will crawl even slower.
iPad Mini rush has finally ended. 0/22 claimed so far.
3/22 claimed. Bummer, I didn't get a winners email.
Wtf? Woke up and saw this screen. I'm assuming it means I may have won but didn't check out in time as there was no way to add it to a cart. The red bar was scrolling with the 'Winners have 10 minutes to check out' message. If so I guess it's not that horrible as I'm typing this on my 2 day old iPhone 6 Plus which is like having an iPad mini anyway. I did check my email and didn't have anything there saying I won. @Thumperchick - Is this what you saw when you won?
@Cinoclav Oh no! Sorry you missed it, but happy to hear you're not that bummed.
@Cinoclav oof, that stings a bit. No email for me.
@pitamuffin @DaveInSoCal I'm still not even sure that it means I had won. But yeah, not a huge deal. I already own a Nexus 7 that I rarely use. I likely would have just sold it. I'd just be bummed about the bragging rights. :)
@Cinoclav that doesn't quite look like the winner's screen to me.
@Cinoclav when you look at your badges (under the photo of the iPad), does it show any rushes won?
@bluedog No, but I wasn't sure if that would only show if you actually made the purchase. Just weird that I had the drop down with the 1 qty. I've never seen that before.
@Cinoclav anytime during the rush you can click on the item and it will open a screen like that. No option to buy, and towards the bottom it will say something like "rush only."
@DaveInSoCal Strange that I've never seen that. Thanks for the info.
@Cinoclav I can confirm it will show a win badge with 0 loss credits when you miss a chance to purchase
Bluetooth speaker thing up now.
@medz @cengland0 @Thumperchick @carl669 @TaRDy @Cinoclav @pitamuffin @studerc @Foxborn @stryper2000 @walarney @OldCatLady @sushiboy @Pony @DaveInSoCal @Stumpy91 @wilstev new rush
@DaveInSoCal I got ya this time
@RedHot Almost! I set up a Dailysteals thread at https://mediocre.com/forum/topics/dailysteals-comrush-notification-thread where you can get automatic notifications (no need to tag everybody). @cengland0 took care of it for all of us this morning :) Good effort, though!
I spent the past 3 days refreshing on the iPad mini Rush, what a waste of time! LOL
first Pat Sajak, and now this? C'mon man...
Well that was a fast one
@Pantheist looks like they are doing more?
@Kleineleh aw, looks like I missed it. Thanks for the heads up though
@Pantheist I got in on it, but I lost. I'm 3 for 3 for losses.
@Pantheist they did two in a row - first was for 3500 people - second for 2500 (I think).
@ilovereality keeping an eye on it now to see if they do it again- maybe i can get a 4th loss credit :P
New Rush at 3:30 EST for a Samsung Note 4.
@hallmike this one is filling FAST
@hallmike I'm in. I'm not sure how i feel about this 1 winner thing... wait, I know. I don't like it.
@hallmike It filled up in 10 minutes and now the 1 winner hasn't claimed it yet. Where the phuck did they go in 10 minutes? Jeez, how bad would it stink to come back from the bathroom to find out you won and ran out of time?
@hallmike Claimed :(
@bluedog I've never won, but I'd guess part of the delay is going through the payment process.
@hallmike well that was quick. I was away during the announcement of it as I had to head downstairs to accept my staff member of the month award. Since I'm diehard anti-Samsung, I feel what I did get is better.
@wilstev Hehe - He said staff... and member.
@Cinoclav I bet you thought long and hard about that reply didn't you? ;-)
@wilstev I see what you did there.
@wilstev Penis. (I figured, why beat around the bush...)
Anyone else join the wait list and not getting any notifications?
@Ryaneil nary a one - thats why I was thankful for the other thread and the heads up.
@Ryaneil Blame @lisaviolet
@bluedog Yeah. sigh Sorry about that.
@lisaviolet now wait a minute. you don't have a goat badge yet so i don't think they can blame you. but, by the time anyone sees this comment, you'll probably have your badge and i'll look like a fool. damn you @lisaviolet!
@carl669 it's a practice run.
@carl669 But then anyone who looks at it next year won't see the badge. Noobs must be so confused with meh.
@Ryaneil Got the notification for the one that is happening now.
@ilovereality I received one notification ten minutes before the start this time; but sadly just got it:(
How do you have a 1/2 channel?
Last person does not want to claim this one.. times run out a couple times already
@Pantheist and it's gone
Another one is up - initially the price was $15 - but they changed it to $1 - much slower filling up this time. only 1/3 of the way there and its been 20 minutes.
I was in on the helicopter rush. I didn't win initially. Apparently the experiment is a fail because a lot of people were notified they won but were unable to pay.
Anyone else getting a 404 error now?
@Thumperchick Yup - right after I got my winner notification.
@hallmike Ouch!
@hallmike Bummer, but apparently you couldn't have bought it anyway
@Thumperchick but no catchy music video to go with it
@Thumperchick still yes
@Thumperchick Yeah, I'd have been peeved if it was a fancy new phone, but I can shrug off a $1 helicopter.
@hallmike they sent a tweet saying they will be contacting everyone who won via email.
@DaveInSoCal So how are the winners supposed to be notified if everything goes OK?
@Stumpy91 From their twitter account.... " DailySteals @DailySteals · Sorry we ran into some technical difficulties. Don't worry, if you won we will contact you via email. Thanks RUSHers! "
@Stumpy91 Oh sorry - normally you get an email notifying you you have won and you have 10 minutes to purchase (or a message shows on the site if you have the rush page loaded). I only know 'cause I actually was a winner on Tuesday (blue tooth speaker). I would not trust the email option for notification as so far its been pretty unreliable. I got lucky and had the page open on my browser when it said I'd won.
Looks like this site also has mystery boxes for sale from $15-$20:
http://www.dailysteals.com/collection/1376/Secret-Santa
@DaveInSoCal I bought one for $10 and returned it. It had crap that I didn't need or want.
@DaveInSoCal you had me at mystery
@TaRDy i bought one for me and one for the wife. We'll see how it goes!
@DaveInSoCal All right, I'm a sucker. In for 1 women's giftable mystery box, size xl.
@bluedog holy shit you can pick size? I should pay closer attention to things and stuff.
@DaveInSoCal Only the men's and women's giftable mystery boxes have the option to select a specific size.
@sushiboy They let you return the mystery boxes?
@Pantheist Yeah, I didn't expect them too haha. I clicked on "return item" expecting them not to accept it but they are in the process of refunding $8.50 out of the $10 I spent.
@sushiboy well that's surprisingly nice :)
@DaveInSoCal My women's XL mystery "box" showed up in today's mail. What a waste of $20. Ugly ass earrings, couple of shirts (1 too small, the other too baggy), ear muffs, open pair of earbuds, 3 packs of Mentos gum, and a Power Pod 360 Jr. portal big sound vibration speaker. Not even Meh, pretty much crap. Only thing worth keeping is the gum. All the rest is already in the Goodwill donation pile or yard sale pile.
As far as the loss credits/loser's circle goes: is everyone planning to just avoid participating in those rushes unless it's an item they want? I figured why waste my win on something like the movie ticket deal they had.
@wilstev I just now understood how that worked - yeah I would skip movie tickets at the cost of all my losses.
Jumping Sumo Mini-Drone up now. Have no idea what it is, but it sounds cool, and I know several folks who would love to get something like this as a gift. So I'm in.
And now they have a live stream going. Watch out Woot!
@pitamuffin http://gizmodo.com/parrots-new-drones-fly-the-mini-skies-and-bite-your-an-1495187231 I would love to win this to see it fight the helicopter I won in that first Rush.
@editorkid Hey yeah, I did get the flying RC battle bots from meh. I guess there could be some interesting air wars going on.
@pitamuffin I didn't get those... but now I hope you win because it would be awesome to do a video where the battle bots were fighting each other but then teamed up to fight the Jumping Drone. You could call it an After-Meh Special.
And they are doing shots on the live stream! I think I'm liking this company more and more.
@pitamuffin It's like the opposite of a woot-off ... stuff you actually want but probably can't buy.
store price (target) on these headphones is ~$150. i'm curious as to who the hell would actually pay $150 for these. even at $36, i'm not sure i'd buy them if i won. can someone enlighten me? are they really that good? or is it just good marketing?
@carl669 No clue. I'm skipping this one. I'm not sure if I would find a use for them if they were free
@carl669 I think they are mostly hype and marketing. You can find headphones that are just as good or better for less.
yeah. i reserved but will probably pass on them if i actually win. might as well let them go to someone who wants them (or wants to put in the effort to resell them)
@carl669 They've got pretty good reviews on amazon, if I got em from the rush I'd probably sell em there
@carl669 overpriced at $150 but not bad for $36...and for a teenager for Christmas it fulfills my requirements to be awesome dad yet not cower to name brand BS. I forgot about this Rush experiment until today...so this is my first attempt. Mights as well sign up for as many as I can, if nothing else it helps the winners get there sooner.
Has anyone else noticed a vague sense of familiarity with the overall theme of the experiments? Or perhaps the fact that if you dig through mediocre's twitter feed from their earliest month, you'll find a ton of similar experiment ideas? I'm not suggesting anything sordid, on the contrary really. DS would love to poach the type of customers that are attracted to this business model. If they were smart enough to pay attention to some of those ideas and make them happen, more power to them. If that were the case though, it would have been cool to see it acknowledged.
(I do fully realize that it is absolutely possible and probable that the DS experiments were thought of completely independently of the mediocre brainstorm tweets. But that's not as fun as my espionage theory.)
@Thumperchick
@Thumperchick I've been thinking something is up for a while now. So many similarities. I realize DS has been around for quite a while, but I keep thinking somehow meh is behind these rushes. The experiments, today's live stream they had a theme song, they had a stuffed monkey on camera - ok, that would be woot, but still... Add to it that no one from meh ever comments in these threads about DS, it makes me a bit suspicious.
@pitamuffin I think that the flaskers can't really comment in these threads. If they do, they could be easily interpreted as endorsing DS, or knocking them. Staying away is the safest bet they have.
@Thumperchick Have you noticed at the top of the DS site, there is a section in blue that says "Read this week's Experiment Analysis" and the symbol next to it is a flask! More shenanigans.
@Teripie If this is a secret meh experiment I'm enjoying it. I sent a suggestion to them yesterday that they needed a forum, it seems to be the one thing lacking at the site - no way to interact other than twitter.
@ilovereality I hate how they assume EVERYONE has a twitter account. They expect the winner to tweet and people are baffled when they don't. Maybe the winner just doesn't do twitter?
@medz They just want everyone who rushes to tweet about it. They want to trend. That's part of their experiment.
@Thumperchick Mainly just wanted to comment to say that we totally can comment in this thread. And yes, we definitely noticed the flask icon.
@JonT So there's another motive for staying away?
@Thumperchick @JonT Today's livestream, they talk about the Steal-a-thon that's coming up and someone tweeted, asking if it would be like a Woot off. They said it would be similar and that they were early partners with Woot. I'm still saying they are meh, or meh is them...
@pitamuffin only if the description of who they are is fake are they meh…
I'm playing the Rush game and all, but something about their deals is annoying. You jump in, wait around, and then basically waste a bunch of time hoping you get in. With Meh, you see the deal, you like, you click buy, and you are back on with your life.
Guess I would feel different if I was a chosen one with the Rush deals, but i'm still not willing to commit that much time of my life to score a deal on something I probably wouldn't buy anyways.
@Stallion Yeah I agree. The only deals there worth messing with are the ones that close in less than a 1/2 hour as the winners are likely to still be on and it is over with. I went to bed twice now with deals still running due to how long they take to fill. Not worth the lost sleep even if it is something expensive for really cheap. Odds of winning are incredibly low anyway - better than powerball, but not good enough to be worth hanging out for hours on end.
@Stallion @Kidsandliz Dunno -- I haven't had any trouble clicking to enter and getting back on with my life. The Rush I won was the first, I think (the helicopter on Nov. 3), so it was atypically quick (and even then I got the email on the third or fourth round), but even with the ones that take hours, I click and get back on with my life. If the email comes and I can click, I'll click. Of course, if it's something you wouldn't buy, the process probably falls apart for you, but thanks for making the game quicker for the rest of us.
@editorkid I can imagine there were fewer people entering on Nov 3rd as opposed to now. If that's the case then surely the threshold would have been lower, taking less time to fill. I played last night and the threshold was just unrealistic. It's becoming a major time hog. Especially when or if you even get a notification that a new rush is coming up. The webcast is nice and everything but people have other things to do with their lives.
@Enigma Maybe This Bothers Both Of Us More Than It Should, in opposite directions. I just don't see the time hog when all you have to do is click and go back to living life. There's no need to keep a tab open to the page, let alone watch it. If you're near a computer or smartphone and the email arrives, it's about 90 seconds more to buy it. If it doesn't, you didn't win, whether it took a minute or a day. If the email about an upcoming Rush arrives, it's usually in advance, and you've got a pretty decent window while they're waiting for their thousands of clicks. It's not like a bag of crap or a fukubukuro where your F5 key's the most important part of the process. I agree about the webcast, but I've never really watched the videos here or on Woot either for the same reason. FWIW, the Rush I won, I got an email that I'd lost at 5:20 and the email that I'd won at 6:25. But they only took a few moments each.
@editorkid Agreed. No reason to spend a lot of time over there if you don't want to. Meh is a WAY bigger time hog for me but only because I allow it to be.
@editorkid I agree, it's really not that serious. Just stating my opinon from the standpoint of not receiving notifications of upcoming Rushs. I also agree with hallmike... Meh is way better and we all have a choice on how to spend our time.
Nice! To make up for those of us who couldn't buy it in the Rush the other day, they emailed me a coupon code to buy the RC helicopter for $1 with free shipping!
@hallmike Restores my faith in e-commerce.
@hallmike During the webcast (ustream) yesterday the main person talking said several times everyone that 'won' but couldn't buy one would get a chance - nice to see he was true to his word.
@hallmike I got a $1 chopper via email too!
@hallmike they must have only sent some out as I didn't get one (not in spam either).
And speaking of DS, maybe this is why it doesn't have forums...
https://www.dailysteals.com/p/39481/3-Pack-10-Ft-Nylon-Braided-USB-Charge-Sync-Cable-for-iPhone-5-5S-5C--iPhone-4-4S--or-Micro-USB-Devices--Choice-of-8-Colors----Compatible-With-The-Latest-OS-
And they probably aren't the Meh-branded ones, either.
@editorkid I noticed these yesterday when checking out the site ;)
New rush up FYI, supposed to be back to back
@lichme UStream is back up as well
@ilovereality The site doesn't recognize me. I'm logged in but there's nothing to click on. I think I hate these guys.
@lichme I got my rush alert email 13 minutes early this time - thats an improvement.
@ilovereality That would be nice...the only Rush alert I get is from the Mediocre thread...rather humorous.
So last night's final "Rush" was for a GoPro for $18. 5 winners (I wasn't one). Today I get an email from Daily Steals
I'm assuming someone screwed up - did everyone get this email (the link was just to the main site)? I'd ask them but they have no forums and seldom reply to tweets ;)
@ilovereality i didn't get one
@ilovereality I didn't get that email.
New rush on Bose headphones. Just happened to check at almost the exact second it came up
Interesting new twist... have to click the "I'm not a robot" button. Now I'm curious just how many people were setting up multiple accounts and using scripts to reserve their spot and up their odds.
@Cinoclav I also had to click it
@Cinoclav my phone doesn't like it.
@thumperchick - what in the hell is your secret. THREE RUSHES. geezuz.
@CozzaFrenzy Hey now! I only won 2 rushes and a riddle game.
@Thumperchick I'm 2 behind you (BT Speaker arrived today!)
People who win and don't claim should have a 5-rush timeout.
@editorkid No - we need them to join all the rushes to help them fill faster.
@editorkid They should have a "Nope" button, so that we don't have to wait for the time to run out.
@Thumperchick Or that, yeah. With a 5-game timeout for people who don't use that. Although I was annoyed because it was taking so long to get to the next one, and, well, whaddayaknow. @hallmike I'm looking for ways to speed up the process when they're doing back-to-back rushes. In my slightly-under-the-weather haze I didn't realize they weren't doing that today until they vanished.
@Thumperchick You think they are deciding not to purchase the item after they win it? Has anyone done that?
@tightwad There were a few that I would have not purchased, had I won.
@tightwad I would buy most of them, if only for the resale opportunity.
@hallmike this. if its not something i want personally, there is someone out there that WILL pay for it due to their desire for it.
@CozzaFrenzy I don't really care whether people buy it for resale or for themselves. I just think there are too many people blowing it off. They could also set it up so the price goes up with each round of winners. (Although then you'd get people whining about how $10 for a $50 gift card was fine but $11 was a ripoff.)
I'm 0 for 19 now
I suggested that if the last item loops too many times without being claimed (3? 4?) - they should end it and do a losers Rush (for something like the 1st 200 that are still camped on the site like many of us). That last set of headphones went through 3-4 loops no?
They're doing a rush now.. $10 for a $50 amazon card
Loser rush? Yeah, that would pretty much be a guarantee if I bought that shirt.
@Cinoclav I agree but didn't they say you would have to "pay" loser points to get to play in that rush? I don't see any info on how many. (again do not actually want that lame shirt)
@chellemonkey I'm a little pissed because when I went to the loser rush it said 0 Loss Credits to join, so I did. Later I refreshed the page and now it says 7 LC and they were taken from my total. I wouldn't have used the credits if It had shown me in the first place.
@Cinoclav the cost is apparently 7 loser credits to sign up - then you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting a shirt for $4
@Cinoclav The kicker is they have to get 1000 people with 7 or more losses sign up. I wonder if they will manage it as so many people seem to be sayign they are going to wait.
@ilovereality They'll get there, they always do eventually. I know it uses credits. I have 19, none of which are worthy of wasting my money on the shirt if I won.
@hallmike I had the same thing happen. Glitchy.
Meant to ask yesterday, does anyone mysteriously have one more loss than you've actually participated in somehow?
@wilstev if you were part of the helicopter fiasco they gave you 2 loser credits
@hih934 Cool, thought there must have been a reason. Thanks for the quick reply.
RUSH at 3:45 EST today for an XBOX assassins creed edition... $45. one winner, 1800 threshhold. (per the email)
Man, I wanted that.
Holy crap that was quick. That bar was moving like a 50kb porn clip being downloaded in junior high. Chalk one more up in the loser column.
@Cinoclav XBOX moves really fast, floor cleaning robot is at a crawl...
@chellemonkey Yep. I have no need for it but at a normal retail of $250 I'd be happy to sell it.
@Cinoclav I have only hard floor surfaces. I could totally use this but would never pay $200+ for one...I just don't clean my floors. It's way cheaper ;)
Missed out on entering at least one because I didn't know you have to press the "Reserve" button a second time after clicking the "I'm not a robot."
Speaking of robots, didn't realize iRobot bought Mint. (There's one up on the rush at the moment.)
@walarney apparently it thought i was a robot, because it showed me the old style captcha and then still did not let me in. doubting my humanity now, maybe i am a robot?
@cleverogre Same here. Very irratating.
@cleverogre @Teripie it was doing that to me yesterday but if I refreshed the page or opened in a new window it seemed to like me better
@chellemonkey i will give that a shot if the deal looks overwhelmingly good. thanks!
@cleverogre well…are you a robot?
@cleverogre I suppose if I "win" this robot, it won't be able to enter contests for me.
@JonT 42
The email said there was going to be an announcement at the end of the rush on the livecast. Can those of you who watch/listen let me know what it is?
Have any other products had a "Buy It Now" offer during the Rush itself? I accidentally found the link to buy the thing for $39.
@editorkid I've never seen that
@editorkid and you didn't share?
https://www.dailysteals.com/p/40163
@carl669 Got interrupted by the boss, who clearly has another set of priorities. SMH
@editorkid ah. no way to add it to the cart though. says "rush only"
@carl669 Ah, thanks, guess my boss confused me more than I thought. That must just be the product info page. On the other hand the reason my boss interrupted me was to give me my bonus, so I guess I can't be too mad at her.
@editorkid Depends on the bonus. Also depends on 'her.'
@Cinoclav It gets me some cat food.
Um, my cat. It gets my cat some cat food.
@editorkid Have you never tried the beef and liver with cheese? Try it on an everything bagel. Be sure to eat it in front of your cat. Cat jealousy is so damn cute.
I got mentioned on the live feed yesterday (yeah @Thumperchick, I know they read your tweets all the time). They even did a shot in my honor :) Time: 58:57.
@jsh139 Nice!
I'm not sure, but I think I might have received the mystery box that I paid $20 for on the 15th. It came from "Battery Superstore," which I've never heard of, in Amazon Prime packaging, and I don't do business with Amazon. And my DailySteals order page says it hasn't been shipped yet. But I can't explain it any other way. shrug Anyway, it's the Hubsan First Person View quadcopter that seems to have a list price of $199. This review says it's a decent unit for the price and lays out some of the corners the company cut. http://fpvcentral.net/2013/11/hubsan-107d-fpv-quadcopter-review/ I expected much worse, so it was a decent spend.
@editorkid I feel like that is worth $20 for sure!
@chellemonkey Yeah. I don't really have much use for a drone, so it isn't overkill like a Parrot would be. The nearest parks are along Lake Michigan's shore (obvious downfall there) and a cemetary so I'm not sure how far I'll get with it, but a nice small unit with a few decent features for that price was a great score. Ironically, the other thing I won from them was the RC helicopter, so maybe I can have these duel it out.
@editorkid They did say that some of the mystery items shipped from Amazon. You might be the some!
@Thumperchick Ah, thanks. I can 't listen at work so a lot of the subtleties elude me.
Bummed I missed the Dewalt chance today. Why in the hell do they always do them in the middle of a work day. I am not near a computer to check it/check emails during normal business hours.
@Outofmymind I blame @joelmw that you missed this.
@Outofmymind Because they don't want to be at work after the workday.
@Thumperchick Well duh. I don' either but I am/do often. This is Obama's fault, or maybe Bush. For sure a Clintons.
@Outofmymind I think you missed the obvious... it's @joelmw's fault.
@Thumperchick Don't be Scapegoating me.
@Outofmymind I'm sorry? Damn your gainful employment! shakes fist
@Thumperchick I will not buy into the lies. I just talked to Unixrab and we know Joe is innocent and will prove it by around February 1st.
@Outofmymind @Thumperchick @lisaviolet Ok, so, 1) You would have regretted it. We can't know for sure why, but trust me on this. 2) You're welcome for the gainful employment. 3) I'll take some of the blame for both Clintons (hell, Chelsea too) and Obama. You'll need to talk to Cheney and Grove about Bush. (Quickly ducks to avoid actual discussion of current, past--and future?!?--presidents.)
