@mattchhinn its cheap(and good value). but its cheap for a reason If you have a big house or you dont need the 5ghz band of wifi, you should get a different router
@okaytodd I'm fairly certain you're just being snarky. (Not that I'm immune to snarkiness. Takes one to know one really...) The GF wireless actually isn't bad - for what it is. But yeah, if you really want to shut off the included GF wireless and use your own router, you're going to be spending a lot more than this. For example, the AC1750 refurb that's going for $90 at the moment (though reviews seem suspect...) And for the record, I have a few SSDs that do fine with gigabit speeds. My Samsung 830 and even a Plextor in an old Mac Mini come really close to saturating my gigabit line - as long as I can find a source capable of saturating it on the other end... Personally I'm considering another router (even though I love DDWRT, I may just end up punting and getting a refurb Airport Express). I really hate how flaky the GF wifi gets with some mobile devices after it's been running for a while. I never experienced that with my old wrt610n/e3000s.
@bakerzdosen I have heard the new TV boxes (GFHD200) for Google Fiber have much improved wifi over the old ones (GFHD100), not to mention the fact they have wireless ac rather than topping out at wireless n, plus they let you have 6 of them now rather than just 4. Currently I have 4 of the GFHD100 boxes, but I have the wifi turned off and am using 3 airport extremes and one airport express, that being said even on wireless n I am only seeing about 70Mbps. Maybe I will call up and see if one can upgrade to the newer TV boxes at no cost. If possible I would most likely sell off my airports.
@jetkins 460 is wireless. So in theory your wireless transfers from one wireless device to another would be faster than wired to wired or wireless to wired.
Tricky meh, tricky get me to buy a better router for $6 more a month ago then offer this one. If I still had VMP I'd jump on this for my parents who have a decade old router.
latest technology, not really, there are plenty of ac1200 routers that would do rings around this, like cox cable gives us the ccg4500bd gateway, and I get like ac1200 speeds on devices that I can change the wireless card to an ac1200 nic on.
Have a AC-1200 with seems to be infinite software settings, camera setup etc. worked at first then had to restart often to make it throught the day, finally got the APPLE new AC router that Cowboom had seventy some dollars for refurbished, now getting a Seagate 3T central to Back up iPads and such ,,,,Seagate running hot. That a two cup coffee projecth
@craigcush I have an apple AC router that is having issues. I'm thinking If I can get a stable router that may help out. I think part of the issue is for a family of 3 I think we have 20+ network devices... which I find insane myself.
What I have learned about D-Link The power supply dies not the core product I have saved many 5 port hubs by replacing the power supply. As I recall, the power requirements are 5v 500mA, so any power supply around 5v (I personally look for one that is between 5v and 5.4v) 500mA up power supply works. I use 5v 2000mA because of the availability. This device comes with a 12v 2amp power supply. This is a plus in my book. It would seem D-link improved the power supplies.
edit: Oh ya time to poo on the product. No USB port, no gigabit lan, no dd-wrt, no deal.
@caffeine_dude I remember that happened to me years ago. Then I pluged in a higher voltage power supply or something, because I am an idiot, and killed it.
So you have 100mbps connection to the internet.. then 433mbps over the wireless.. that's just silly if you have a modern Internet service that is over 100mbps
Darn... I guess I gave away the wrong one... I needed it to have a bridge mode... I may have to search out another AC router/access point/USB adapter to get this functionality...

too much meh...
@rubbateckie so much meh, too many times.
Ok Meh, you get bonus points for the Parks and Rec reference.
So, does it do ddwrt?
@thezeusjuice why don't you Google you lazy sloth!
@Kross you just answered your own questions. (plus, I'm on my cell phone)
@thezeusjuice it's not on the list; search for d-link here http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
@Kross Well, by the time i finished my own search (using phone), someone actually posted the answer here. So why bother?
@thezeusjuice I don't see it listed for dd-wrt or Openwrt. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but probably not worth the effort on this unit.
@mudskip you the real mvp
Hey tech folks, is this thing any good?
@mattchhinn no.
@mattchhinn I'll second that, no.
@mattchhinn 10/100 LAN kills it.
@mattchhinn doesn't support tomato/shibby... so no.
@okaytodd Agreed. Why is anyone even making 10/100 devices anymore? It can't be that much cheaper to manufacture, if at all.
@mattchhinn its cheap(and good value). but its cheap for a reason If you have a big house or you dont need the 5ghz band of wifi, you should get a different router
@okaytodd Thanks I didn't see that yet. I got a nighthawk but was looking for the folks. Think I'll pass.
@okaytodd Why in the actual fuck would you make a router capable of wireless AC but limited to 10/100?
433Mbps? Must go faster! I need something to max out my Google Fiber. Come on wireless industry, you're only half way there.
@okaytodd Well the wireless industry is already there... Considering a decent AC router at 80mhz can hit 1300mbps.
@Nexar That's all kinds of theoretical though, pretty much have to use gigabit LAN to even attempt to fully utilize Google Fiber.
@okaytodd Your HDD will not handle fiber speeds.
@caffeine_dude It probably could, many HDD's can write at 120MB/s or faster (1Gb/s)... If it's an SSD most definitely it can handle it.
@Ringold Correct, this could only access 1/10th of it at any given time.
@okaytodd I'm fairly certain you're just being snarky. (Not that I'm immune to snarkiness. Takes one to know one really...) The GF wireless actually isn't bad - for what it is. WTF? Wireless ac, but 10/100 LAN?
Glad I got the Netgear.
@2many2no Thank you for mentioning the Netgear, I needed some reinforcement on that buy.
@nikodrant So far, mine's working far better than the ancient Trendnet that I replaced.
Nope! Meh
What's the good of 460Mbps wireless when the WAN and LAN ports are only 10/100?
@jetkins Lan speed. like transferring files between computers or streaming them to a roku or whatever.
@jetkins 460 is wireless. So in theory your wireless transfers from one wireless device to another would be faster than wired to wired or wireless to wired.
It's good enough for Irk but is it good enough for IRC?
@nadroj It's too good for IRC. Get next week's USR Courier modem special and you can rock your IRC at 56k.
POS. Send me your $22.00, have I got a router for you!
Clicked Meh, now I have an urge to read A Light In The Attic.
Still waiting on an email response from support as to why i only got one of the two routers i ordered in the last router sale.....
@Nemesis158 Because they are toying with you.
@Nemesis158 Maybe it was... a routing error?
@Nemesis158 At least you didn't receive a router and a wifi camera instead.
Model: DIR-808L
Meh buyers will buy any ol' product that references 808.
https://meh.com/deals/808-audio-drift-noise-isolating-on-ear-headphones
@mehdaf If this was as good as the headphones, I'd be tempted...
Tricky meh, tricky get me to buy a better router for $6 more a month ago then offer this one. If I still had VMP I'd jump on this for my parents who have a decade old router.
You mean, d-link is still in business?
She doesn't want the D.
I'll never buy Dlink routers. Pieces of junk. Plus, no gigabit.
D-Link: NTP vandals. Avoid.
So, will D-Link actually provide warranty support on this one or pull a Netgear and tell people who have a DOA one to pound sand?
The 4 Amazon reviewers are standing against opposite walls. 2 x 5-star . . . 2 x 1-star. Are you an optimist or pessimist?
I knew what he meant by "the e" in the writeup right away, because I know computers. Good one though. I liked the "turn it off and on again" bit. :D
latest technology, not really, there are plenty of ac1200 routers that would do rings around this, like cox cable gives us the ccg4500bd gateway, and I get like ac1200 speeds on devices that I can change the wireless card to an ac1200 nic on.
Maybe if I hadn't got the Netgear listed just the other day.
If you are aiming to be the most boring date ever meh. You are a huge success. yeah
on the bright side
more potential stuff for the next fuku.
D-Link products are pretty much entirely junk.
Certainly the bottom of the line ones are.
Sorry, Meh. I already got the Netgear, but haven't gotten around to putting ddwrt on it.
Loved the ad copy, by the way. It sounds too much like my users.
What I have learned about D-Link

But if I don't need a USB port or Gigabit LAN or dd-wrt then it's fine to replace my ageing flaky N router?
@Jondaniel I've seen better routers here, just a couple of weeks ago there was a solid Netgear.
@Jondaniel I can see it filling a useful place in my router ecosystem. It'll beat the pants of my (classic) WRT-54G with or without DDWRT.
looking at only the picture, it appears that it says "mydink"... now myDlink. hahah
Come on, guys, really? Might as well be pushing 8 Gb jump drives. Everybody has more of these than they need now.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
So you have 100mbps connection to the internet.. then 433mbps over the wireless.. that's just silly if you have a modern Internet service that is over 100mbps
meh.

@sohmageek here is a trendnet ac1750 router for $33

This thing still works like a champ. Just sayin’.
