What truly keeps me coming back is not a desire for more junk in my life, nor @JasonToon’s sparkling wit, nor the video, nor the poll, nor even the forums. Nay, it is my compulsion to keep hitting the meh button that brings me back each night.
@lljk When I first got to Meh, I thought if you clicked the Meh button, it was like saying, “I won’t buy this” and it wouldn’t let you buy. Silly younger me…
@Tin_Foil
i thought that, too. Even after I learned otherwise, I had trouble clicking it when I bought something, but I do click everyday now, 35 so far with 117 total.
Chances are you won’t want what we’re selling on any given day, no matter what we say.
Boy, no kidding recently. Your move to go meta in that write-up kinda smashed right through the fourth wall and really has me questioning why I keep coming back.
Oh yeah… To cross getting a Fuku off the bucket list. And in case you ever offer to buy back all these Eveready batteries.
Why all the junk for sale lately? Plastic bag holders?!?! If I want to serve stuff, I put it in a bowl. Sell a set of bowls! Get back to selling interesting stuff, like slow cookers or flashlights or anything that we don’t want but we buy anyway.
@mhuyck Believe me, it is. I made the mistake of buying it few weeks ago and I have tried it just once and I won’t repeat even the mistake of plugging it in…
@craigthom True. I don’t leave mine plugged in either. It is helpful for longer road trips, mostly. This one has greater power output than my current model, so the high-speed fan is probably an attempt to keep cool at higher current loads.
@nenik Yeah this thing is loud as hell, gets scary hot despite the fan and seems to overload and stop working after light use. I was wondering why it was back again already after like a month…
Good write up, but I need convincing to buy this for our current vehicle, a 2004 Ford Focus 2.3l, with a substantial alternator and battery, so no problems handling an inverter. My need to be convinced is that I have cordless power tools and six 4aH batteries plus two 2aH batteries, my NiMH/NiCd/Li Ion battery charger is set up to run off 120VAC or 12VDC, and I already have a power supply for my laptop that will run off 120VAC/aircraft/automobile power. The only real need I can see, right now, is when we buy a full size van in the very near future, and I’ll need power to run my CPAP since the battery pack for it runs several hundreds that I’m not willing to spend. But, what we’re looking for will either have a large gasoline power V8 or diesel engine, which will handle a much more substantial inverter than this one.
I bought one so I can use that little shark rocket I bought here recently to vacuum the car. I live in an apartment so no running an extension cord to the car.
/giphy evil-frightening-print
@neveraging In order to get 15 amps out of an inverter, it would need to have an output of 1800 watts. This unit only has 140 watt continuous output which calculates to 1.17 amps. So, no, you definitely could NOT run a 15 amp circular saw off of this.
You know, I used a cut-rate inverter from Walmart to turn on some Christmas lights in a field when I proposed. Didn’t have the current capability when I used a long extension cable.
Loud, but it works. I’d rather have this over nothing at all on long car trips, but I think my dad’s old Radio Shack inverter has lasted over 20 years, is a lot quieter, and has a much longer cord so you can store that brick under your seat.
BE WARNED!!! This device fried my laptop battery! Exact same model.
Couple years ago I bought one so I could watch the world cup on my laptop while helping my mom move from Maine to Chicago.
The device seemed to work well enough, although it was pretty loud.
BUT- When I got back home, my laptop battery would no longer hold a charge. At all. If the laptop wasn’t plugged in it was useless. I had to buy a new battery.
I am not saying that this will happen to you. But I am saying be aware, and beware.
@Jasong222 The modified sine wave on this inverter & lower-priced UPS units can cause problems with some electronic equipment, especially some charging units.
You just never know if it’s going to cause a problem or run just fine!
The modified sine wave is just a compromise between a pure sine wave & a square wave.
Man, the reviews on this are horrific, and they aren’t even pointing to the one that looks like it. The couple of reviews on the one that does appear to look like it are even worse. Search for “B008C4IKSK” on Amazon to see those…
And now that I attempt to make an edit to my posting from a few moments ago, all I get is “Forbidden”? Oh well, I’ll have to point ^^ up and note that someone already came by with personal experience and another link…

Meh power- charge!!!
Texting while driving? Hope the dude eats a light pole.
@RedOx Is it OK to text and drive if you have a Tesla?
@sl_woodard No. Still have to be able to take control of the car in any circumstance.
Shocking!
It’s Electric!
Can we talk about the name CyberPower for a second.
@Jetlag
Sweet Riviera.

@lljk 334 Streak for me.
@lljk When I first got to Meh, I thought if you clicked the Meh button, it was like saying, “I won’t buy this” and it wouldn’t let you buy. Silly younger me…
573 total meh button clicks
534 in a row
@Tin_Foil 794 total, 10 in a row
@Tin_Foil Exactly what I thought at first too!
627 total, 4 in a row.
@Tin_Foil
i thought that, too. Even after I learned otherwise, I had trouble clicking it when I bought something, but I do click everyday now, 35 so far with 117 total.
@lljk That’s why there’s a meh button; it keeps drawing you back to the site. Marketing!
@lljk 478 total MEH clicks - 1 in a row - yesterday was too busy apparently - 73 longest streak…
825 total, 740 in a row. There was that one day where I know I clicked it but it didn’t take.
Intriguing write-up, keeps me coming back for more! Well, second after the product number critique.
Damn, that was such a fine write-up that I just know I’ll have to come back tomorrow to check out the next one!
Maybe I’ll buy something, too.
Boy, no kidding recently. Your move to go meta in that write-up kinda smashed right through the fourth wall and really has me questioning why I keep coming back.
Oh yeah… To cross getting a Fuku off the bucket list. And in case you ever offer to buy back all these Eveready batteries.
Oh, did I miss those bowl things? Darn.
I may not always compulsively buy things, but I do frequently compulsively read things. @JasonToon, you keep doing you, buddy.
Why all the junk for sale lately? Plastic bag holders?!?! If I want to serve stuff, I put it in a bowl. Sell a set of bowls! Get back to selling interesting stuff, like slow cookers or flashlights or anything that we don’t want but we buy anyway.
@ezrdr Or knives or speaker docks…
My car already has AC and USB outlets. Get with the times Meh!
@ELUNO, we all aren’t wealthy with fancy new cars!
My old inverter is showing its age, so I’m in for a humble-permissive-narwhal. Hoping the fan in this is not as bad as Amazon reviews indicate.
@mhuyck Believe me, it is. I made the mistake of buying it few weeks ago and I have tried it just once and I won’t repeat even the mistake of plugging it in…
@mhuyck Given how cheap these are, I’m not going to leave them plugged in when I’m not using them.
I would buy this, but I’ve already got one of these and two of the single-outlet model.
@nenik Ah, well. I wonder if it will be worse than my old inverter.
Oh, and yeah: also a compulsive “meh” button pusher, also after discovering I could also buy after hitting “meh.”
@mhuyck Apparently also a compulsive also writer.
I thought these were some sort of stealthy like binoculars. They aren’t…right?
Just recently got a Phantom 3 quadcopter, this’d be perfect for charging it from my car! Bought!

@Lurker yeah but this is here for you now.
@Lurker I can see why you need a full size van… you don’t have enough room in the Focus to carry all of your electronic gadgets.
mysterious-dazzle-wasp
…I’m scared
The articles are the best part. Please keep up the great writing by the whole team.
I’ll take two of that sweet background you chose.
/image cyberpunk cool kthx
@chr It is pretty neato
@therealjrn Yep
Already own one. Would not buy again. WAY too loud. I’m actually impressed they got a tiny little fan to make so much noise.
I bought one so I can use that little shark rocket I bought here recently to vacuum the car. I live in an apartment so no running an extension cord to the car.
/giphy evil-frightening-print
@HemlockTea Good plan. Please let us know which is louder: the inverter or the vacuum!
What kind of amperage could I run off this? Could I use a 15 amp circular saw?
@neveraging no
@neveraging yes

@neveraging It might work for .0004 seconds.

So:
But, it worked out, so don’t need this. MEH.
Pretty sure I bought this previously, but I’d have to check my stack of unopened Meh purchases.
I bought one several years ago so I could have coffee during a hurricane. Didn’t work. No thanks, but enjoyed the write up.
You neglected to give the critical info…whether it will power up a blender.
Loud, but it works. I’d rather have this over nothing at all on long car trips, but I think my dad’s old Radio Shack inverter has lasted over 20 years, is a lot quieter, and has a much longer cord so you can store that brick under your seat.
/buy 2
@wmedlin01 It worked! Your order number is: creepy-statuesque-zinc
/image creepy statuesque zinc
@mediocrebot I wanted 2, not 1.
@wmedlin01 I think you have to do ‘-q 2’ for that.
@mhuyck Thanks.
That copy was so bad I hit the buy button just to shut him up… wait, there’s a meh button that does it too? Oh crap…

@daveinwarsh
Whoa, 20ms would be 50hz. We need 60hz. Not sure that would kill the laptop battery though.
@D_a_v_e I just grabbed a pic off the internet, didn’t notice that. The wave for 60hz would be about the same…
“I liked the story so much yesterday, I came back again today.”
With only 1.2A output (140W/120V), will this even charge a laptop?
Man, the reviews on this are horrific, and they aren’t even pointing to the one that looks like it. The couple of reviews on the one that does appear to look like it are even worse. Search for “B008C4IKSK” on Amazon to see those…
