@thechinglish The upper portion’s lid is brushed stainless steel. This has about as much relevance to actual usefulness as adding mint flavoring to the concrete you’re mixing for the fence posts.
@thechinglish@werehatrack Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my waffle maker to get rusty when I run it through the dishwasher or use it in the bathtub.
The last Belgian waffle maker I got was one of the flip-over type. Messy but effective. I already had at least four waffle makers. I will protect myself from being sternly interrogated about the need to allow another one into the house, and not buy this one.
@werehatrack I have a Farberware flip-over type waffle maker. It works fairly well, but I have yet to find a good recipe to make the malty waffles like the ones in the hotel breakfast bars.
-Amazon reviews from the link are full of photos and mentions of a square waffle iron with removable cooking parts, which this does not have
-Wirecutter’s “the competition” section of their waffle iron reviews mentions this model as having uneven cooking ( https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-waffle-maker/ )
@hchavers No, they don’t come out. There’s an even pricier rectangular unit that allegedly comes with swappable flat grids, but this one doesn’t even have ones that can be removed for cleaning.
The Amazon listing with the higher review count calls this a “Mini Belgian Waffle Maker”. The reviews note that the grids are not removable, which some of us find to be a pretty serious drawback.
From my experience, Cuisinart’s reliability and longevity are not good. This is a very basic waffle maker, and $40 is way, way overpriced. no gracias, Nee, Ne, ney, nein, non, o-chi, nahin, nim, nei, ahmo, dooda, nie, tidak, votsh, and an even bigger NO!
Cuisinart Griddler is what you want
All the features asked for, removable plates, small squares, opens flat for pancakes
Reasonably even cooking especially if you have the patience to close it briefly for preheating between batches of pancakes
We have this exact waffle iron, and it is fantastic! There is a bell that dings when it is preheated and reaches temperature to tell you when the waffles are done, which is great.
@georgepollard I never understood the attraction of those, and I’ve lived here for over 40 years. Looks to me like somebody fenced off pasture that they could have been grazing, and paved it over even though there was nothing to park on it.

I am going back and forth on this deal.
Stainless waffles? What about when you put the blueberry syrup on them?
@phendrick Silly. Blueberry syrup stains your shirt, not the waffle.
@phendrick @werehatrack Have you ever tried getting blueberry stains out of a waffle?
@ircon96 @phendrick I eat the waffle, and the stains are gone, like magic!
@ircon96 @werehatrack No need for Shout™.
I always just figured my digestive juices took care of that.
But, go figure, even that has been commercialized now:

Stainless? Tf are you on about

@thechinglish @werehatrack Hey! Whachoo been doing tasting my fence posts?
@thechinglish @werehatrack Does the fencepost lose it’s flavor of the spearmint overnight?
I look forward to this showing up in my next irk, or on sidedeal for $17
@thechinglish I’ll stick to the Krups I grabbed at Goodwill for $5.

Am I the only one that prefers waffles with small squares? Sell a machine that makes waffles like Waffle House and I’ll buy it.
@JT954 I think those are made by Eggo…
@JT954 @stormshadow999 Make your own. Do squares, triangles, octagons, pentominos, whatever…
I’m going to try these recipes, except for the food coloring:

@JT954 Yes! Regular waffle maker please! Although I don’t really need it. My current warhorse has been working like a champ for over 33 years.
@JT954 I am a fan of the regular waffle maker, too.
I want one with removable plates for easy cleaning.
@mikesmells Don’t they call those “dentures”?
Meh.
Price drop is okay, but:

Can the waffle plates be removed to make slapjacks, crepes, and French toast? I don’t buy unitaskers.

@werehatrack So let’s say I have something that makes a pizza, then I cut it into slices. Did I just make a “mini pizza?”
@wickhameh If that pizza is well under 9" in diameter to begin with, I’d say so.

@MarkML Cuisinart was acquired by Conair a while back.
@MarkML Also, Nyet!
@werehatrack So, blow dried waffles?
Ohhhhh. So that’s how you don’t overfill…you underfill. Got it.
This is not worth $40 or $60

Overpriced!! I got a Chefman version of this 2½ years ago for $15 (on sale at “Fest Pie”), and it works perfectly. It also makes 4 “slices” (???)…
I only buy waffle irons that are Texas shaped.

One of zillions of Star Wars waffle makers.
@blaineg Captain Picard would be proud.
