meh...what can I say about this?? I was hoping for....
I took it all for granted But how was I to know That you'd be letting go Now it cuts like a knife But it feels so right It cuts like a knife But it feels so right
@Talidan Yes they look like they imitated the look of Global Cromova... the real thing is a thing of beauty... http://www.amazon.com/Global-G-48338-Santoku-Hollow-Utility/dp/B000RHYFD4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427646510&sr=8-1&keywords=B000RHYFD4 I know the price of the Global Cromova knives have dropped somewhat since the value of the US dollar rose so much against the Japanese yen... but I still wish it could come down a little bit more. The set at Amazon is good value for those three pieces if you can afford the real thing. I'm still stuck in the past personally as I prefer the regular style handles.
I don't understand the desire to wash knives in the dishwasher when they're pretty much the easiest kitchen thing to clean by nature of being a flat surface that can be held with one hand
Just realized I pretty much already have enough kitchen knives for now. If I want more I'll just get another parang. Which is not to say that meh should stop selling knives. One can never have enough knives; one can only have enough for now.
From what can be seen in the photos it appears that the handles and blades are all one piece of metal. This is good since the handles won't crack or break or slip like knives that are punched from sheet metal and have wooden handles attached.
Remember to use a sharpening steel regularly to keep the edge of the blade straight. Contrary to its name, a sharpening steel doesn't actually sharpen the blade. It just nudges the edge back into line so the blade cuts with ease.
@0oiiiiio0 I've been through that myself. One knife has a wooden handle that split. On another knife, the plastic grip is coming loose. Everything I've bought since is just like these. One solid piece of metal.
disturbing-incredulous-rain.. very appro for this part of TX which when disturbing noises are heard outside is incredulous that wet stuff is falling from the sky. We will take whatever anyone has extra as long as it doesn't come with those circular OK winds. They can keep all of those .
@bakeyoural the Chicago Cutlery knives which we will use as utility knives are a model line from a brand we've owned and were less than $2/knife. So the "Meh Math" doesn't quite work, at least for us.
I didn't buy the Shun set because one of the three knives was a bread knife. Seriously? No one needs a high-end damascus steel bread knife. Chef's knife + paring knife + santoku, and I would have been in.
These are made in China correct? I could be wrong but I think almost all Cuisinart items are made in China now. Can't say I was impressed with the quality of any Cuisinart items that I've seen or purchased that were made in China. If price is an issue in assembling a good starter set of decent kitchen knives , I still think there is way better value in any small Victorinox, Henckels or Mercer Culinary set you can afford. Then fill in a smaller set with those nifty Chicago Cutlery walnut traditions steak knives Meh had for sale recently.
To be honest, if there's one thing you should splurge on in your kitchen, it should be a chef's or Santoku knife. I'd rather have a single $40 knife than a weird cutlery/kitchen knife pack like this.
@andrewpatrick I learned this when the gf was given a nice Wusthof chef's knife for Christmas last year. We had a shitty (~$40) set from another Christmas. I don't cook much, but she was also given a smaller knife, not sure what type. It has little ridges in it so cheese won't stick to it? Anyways, it came with a smaller paring knife, that we usually use as a steak knife when eating chicken, pork chops or.... steak.
Great knives and worth the money for how often you use it (basically daily). Knives are on my list of things to not skimp on. Said list also includes shoes, car tires, most electronics (bigger items like TVs and such), and toilet paper.
These knives may very well cut adequately. That doesn't change the fact that they're ugly, and that the handles on the steak knives appear to be so thin that I believe they would be awkward to use. This set most definitely would not be for my personal use, and I would feel embarrassed to pawn them off on someone as a gift.
That said, I started to go off on a bit of a rant yesterday about the Cobra branded jump-starting tire-inflating USB- charging thing-a-ma-jig POS that was being offered; and I stated that Meh should be ashamed to sell such a product. Today's offering is quite different. It is truly a Meh product. While it might not live up to the expectations that I have, I would imagine that the knife set serves its purpose and would be appreciated by someone that was both blind (and couldn't see how ugly the handles are); and has peripheral neuropathy in their fingers (and can't feel how thin the handles of the steak knives are). An honestly meh product that has its niche.

Meh they had only 400?
Meh, indeed.
Baby am compatible.
meh...what can I say about this?? I was hoping for....
I took it all for granted
But how was I to know
That you'd be letting go
Now it cuts like a knife

It cuts like a knife

That "x" has me convinced.

meh
circular-exceptional-smoke
Better than the last one, and much better than my current crappy Ross bought set.
@0oiiiiio0 if nothing else, shears with built in bottle opener is cool
Uh, ....I don't think so.
Go BELK yourself, Meh
These look like knock-off Globals. Man, what I'd do for a single Global at a nice price...
No thank you, I'm just browsing.
I don't understand the desire to wash knives in the dishwasher when they're pretty much the easiest kitchen thing to clean by nature of being a flat surface that can be held with one hand
@Lotsofgoats
@Lotsofgoats overachiever
Baby Arm.
Just realized I pretty much already have enough kitchen knives for now. If I want more I'll just get another parang.

I assume they're stamped (not forged) blades?
From what can be seen in the photos it appears that the handles and blades are all one piece of metal. This is good since the handles won't crack or break or slip like knives that are punched from sheet metal and have wooden handles attached.

@TheTexasTwister This was my issue with my current set, not all one piece, and while still solid, something cracked in the middle of the handle.
@0oiiiiio0 I've been through that myself. One knife has a wooden handle that split. On another knife, the plastic grip is coming loose. Everything I've bought since is just like these. One solid piece of metal.
@TheTexasTwister I recommend Victorinox knives. For the price you can't beat them. I've used them both professionally and at home. Great buy.
disturbing-incredulous-rain.. very appro for this part of TX which when disturbing noises are heard outside is incredulous that wet stuff is falling from the sky. We will take whatever anyone has extra as long as it doesn't come with those circular OK winds. They can keep all of those .
You know, I'm thinking about buying a set just because WOOT is promoting a set for 69.99 and I <3 capitalism.
@Satchmo was going to post the link myself
Knifmeh.
How about compared with Zwilling J.A. Henckels' knives?
@Jakobson01 Henckels made in Germany, better steel, etc. These made in China, needless to say not in the same league.
What is it with you guys and knives?
JUST SAY NO and add them to the "Stuff We Decided Not To Sell" video!!!
@Zypher Maybe they should create a sister website: knives.meh.com
I picked up an identical set to this from somewhere during Xmas shopping last year for around about $8.
@eblade Show off.
$40/13 pieces = $3 per piece. Meh math approved.
@bakeyoural the Chicago Cutlery knives which we will use as utility knives are a model line from a brand we've owned and were less than $2/knife. So the "Meh Math" doesn't quite work, at least for us.
I really want to like you, but so far all I have bought are some wipes. I guess you really are just meh.
@mick been there... still doing that
These don't look too bad and I'm in the market.
patronizing-raunchy-beef
@tombroadcaster disturbing. . . can't unsee.
@tombroadcaster @jrwofuga ...
should have 2 more I believe
@unixrab Please don't be udderly insensitive. That heifer has obviously undergone a double moostectomy.
puffy-naive-sloth. Pretty sure meh is insulting me. I'm going back to sleep.
I didn't buy the Shun set because one of the three knives was a bread knife. Seriously? No one needs a high-end damascus steel bread knife. Chef's knife + paring knife + santoku, and I would have been in.
@squarooticus
@squarooticus I'm with you on this right up to the santoku part, because having a chef's knife makes the santoku pretty redundant
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
I'm so confused. It's a bunch of knives but I can't put them in my pocket. Also I don't see a flipper or thumb stud. Pass.

I was hoping these would be sold out by this time. I have made a terrible mistake.
@DrunkCat as of 3:18pm Eastern, they have.
@RedOak They just did that to make me feel better. :(

Wyoming could not have cared less about this deal.
@fury I could care less about Wyoming since Alan Simpson left the senate. I really loved his down to Earth, common sense approach.
@eyewerks You could care, or could not care?
Wooo! Just unboxed these and they came with a RAZOR edge straight from the box. Pretty excited to see how they last.
