Do you see the new clicky things on the top of the screen, VMP Club, themes, radio button forum selections, and a search??? I don't think this was there a few hours ago.. Really cool @Shawn and @Jont
I just noticed them! I think that including the theme songs, but not a direct "orders" link was the wrong way to go. (Not that I don't love the theme songs.)
VMP being big as day is nice. Unfortunately, it doesn't link anyone to their own VMP membership, just the signup page.
I guess what I'm saying is; it's pretty - but it didn't solve any problems. I don't understand why it was done.
@shawn But the people that would click there to look for it would have found it, regardless of its place in the drop down. I guess what I'm saying is, if making improvements to that section was for accessibility, I feel like it didn't go far enough to help the people who couldn't figure it out before.
I am so glad they took the song off the logo. In all other sites, I use that to go back to the home page and if I'm already on the home page, to reload it. It's sometimes easier to do it that way than hit the refresh -- especially if you're on a mobile device because the refresh isn't a button you can just click once.
@harrison You leaked the secret. You did get it right though, I actually put my own icons on the top of my browser because the "Meh" logo didn't refresh. So I created my own button that just reloaded the page and another one for the forums.
@Thumperchick Of my nine pinned tabs, one is to the meh forums, one is meh orders and one is for my meh Clash of Clans spreadsheet. My meh icon (jumps to forums) and mediocre icon (also forums) are cooler than @cengland0's because they're just icons with no text (this allows me to cram 37--some do require text--on my bookmarks bar). Another bookmark executes the script that removes a certain someone from meh forum conversations.
@BillLehecka@mikibell@sohmageek Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
@curtise I like how it moves differently based on the tempo of the song (IE the slower part in the middle of the main theme, the logo swoops. During the loud chorus parts it excitedly vibrates)
@carl669 Well if it was amazon I would expect a stocked bar and nice recliners and perhaps some beef jerky, but we are talking about meh here... don't wanna push it ;)
@SSteve it is a sad day indeed for the Logotheminator standard. About 7 years ago the "Woot Boogie" logo click was similarly lost in battle. (it used to cycle you through the then-3 woot sites)
@RedOak (1) are you not on wi-fi? it might stubbornly use the cache when you are using cell data. (2)you could try refreshing a whole bunch as fast as it will let you. (3) what version of ios are you on?
@katylava Nope, mulitple rapid fire refreshes did not help. For kicks, again deleted the meh.com safari data, closed all apps, cycled the phone off and back on. Still no joy.
@katylava aha. BTW, not surprising in that it is running MS Explorer, but the new stuff works fine on a Surface running lowly Windows RT. All 10 Meh'rs owning a Surface RT will rejoice.
@katylava ping. Issue icon issue still there. I really like my iPhone so I'm not gonna change - especially since the only site with a problem is meh.com.
@SSteve@katylava@RedOak looks good on my iPhone 6 iOS 8.3 too, my only issue is the drop down menus don't go away if I click somewhere else on the page.
@katylava The piled up icon issue is still there on my 7.x iPhone but found a work around. The icons spread out when in landscape mode. Hard to use the site that way but only need to flip it when needing those icons. That might give a clue as to what is causing the issue as well.
I had a hard time finding this thread and almost made another one... But I LOVE the new icons... they look great on an iPhone. I do also wish my orders was it's own link, I realize it's easy to click on the person icon then the my orders, In the old version of the site sometimes the menu would show up behind the item or the video and all I could click was my orders sometimes, sometimes the whole menu was behind the image. I thought it was just weirdness with mobile site.
Now there's a change worth making: Under the 'Themes' button (Or make a special button for this) add in homepage themes. One for @jrwofuga and one for @Barney. The first makes the background of the home page Georgia Red and the second makes it Purple.
I saw "themes" and immediately thought that I could change the color palette, fonts, layout and other meaningless stylistic elements. I was a little sad when I discovered that it's just a couple of songs. I are sad. I wonder if someone's getting royalties on every play . . .
Maybe this is like elementary school, where we say the pledge every day before milk or America, where we sing to the flag before the beginning of every symbolic battle. Is this our Star Mehngled Banner? Ha, banner. Just noticed that.
Yeah, so, I'm with @Thumperchick: keep working, kids. This is what happens when you give us something nice: we bitch about it. It is kinda nice. A direct link to orders really would make sense.
Okay, the drop menu is good. I really did expect it as its own button, but now that I see the menu I think it might actually be better. Sorry for doubting you, @shawn.
@katylava I'm a word guy. I always focus on the words. I sometimes see or hear them where they don't exist. Besides, a musical note could denote style. I did in fact have that conversation in my head. "Hmmm," I says, "that's an interesting icon for 'theme.'" . . . (That's just the third sentence into the beginning of the conversation, not the whole conversation. In case you were curious.) See, really, I was giving y'all credit for being somewhat clever and ironic. Or at least cute. I do that: I give people credit when maybe I shouldn't. Sigh.
@nadroj Indeed, so many of these things have nonsensical icons that we know just through constant reinforcement. Glyphs are kinda arbitrary anyway though. Hell, even words can mean a lot of different things. Not to take away from your original point, which did make me literally LOL.
@joelmw Someone did a study that found that, no matter the icon, at least 10% of the population will not understand it. It may be a different 10% for different icons, but you can never get the comprehension above 90% no matter what you do.
@SIMBM My guess is that that number is low. So, yes--and more. One of my favorite things to think about is how people can have a conversation with actual words, in proper sentences, and they can each believe that those words mean a particular thing, but the words mean a different particular thing for each person. And as you add all of that variance up, people can continue the conversation and nod their heads at each other and be fully convinced that they're all on the same page but in reality be miles and miles apart. That fascinates me.
One other thing I don't like a ton about the new icons.. At least on Chrome on Linux.. Hovering does not cause the drop downs to go, but since some icons have a drop down and some are direct links you never know if you're leaving the page until after you click them.. Maybe put a tiny downward arrow or ... on the ones that drop a menu? Or make the menu happen on mouseover?
@lljk@sohmageek possibly an oversight in the last iteration. I noted that double tapping the forum icon does the trick though (a second tap ignoring the menu drop down)
There's a new button! What is Meh? (And now that you can't post in the FAQ anymore, I really wish that I had- damn you @carl669 for your wide-spread changes here!)
@dashcloud here's a motivational saying that will help you come to terms with the new features. (note: if someone posted this in response to something i said, i'd tell them to fuck off. so really, this is a roundabout way of saying: )
Perhaps the following account page things aren't as new to others as they are to me: (Or perhaps I've been sleeping? Anyway thanks for making me think these are new, Meh!)
1) Being able to click on Orders directly from the Account page. Wasn't that a page to only change PW, uncheck email reply notifications, and cancel VMP?
2) Being able to (logically) click on the Meh 'logo' from the account page to go to directly the day's Meh page.
:O I just saw these new things! What is this madness.
The singing logo is no more.
@Collin1000 I always have the sound turned off on this machine, so I wouldn't notice that :)
The Dancing logo while playing the theme songs is pretty sweet! Meh!
@Thumperchick It could still be a work in progress...
@Thumperchick "My Orders" link is first link in the account menu
@shawn what is the correct terminology for the clicky things?
@mikibell Icons?
@cengland0 perhaps, but it feels like there should be a more technical term involving header or dropdown, etc..
@mikibell Sir Clicky Headley Dropdown the 3rd. Or "button". Either way.
@shawn But the people that would click there to look for it would have found it, regardless of its place in the drop down.
I guess what I'm saying is, if making improvements to that section was for accessibility, I feel like it didn't go far enough to help the people who couldn't figure it out before.
@Thumperchick I always forget the VMP links are just that cartoon.
I am so glad they took the song off the logo. In all other sites, I use that to go back to the home page and if I'm already on the home page, to reload it. It's sometimes easier to do it that way than hit the refresh -- especially if you're on a mobile device because the refresh isn't a button you can just click once.
@cengland0 I suspect that was the very reason for the change. Well, not your behavior personally, probably, unless you think it is?
@mossygreen don't tell anyone, but we exclusively use @cengland0's usage data to determine UI changes.
@harrison You leaked the secret. You did get it right though, I actually put my own icons on the top of my browser because the "Meh" logo didn't refresh. So I created my own button that just reloaded the page and another one for the forums.
@cengland0 I thought I was the only one who did that.

Just noticed them, too. Good for newbies I guess.
@jsh139 IMHO, they are easier to see also..of course, I am in desparate need of new glasses..
@mikibell Glasses like..... these??
I fear change.
@BillLehecka and it fears you..sounds fair..
@BillLehecka “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” - Yoda
@sohmageek change leads to suffering. Q.E.D.
@BillLehecka @mikibell @sohmageek
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Someone moved my cheese. And clicky things.
I LOOOOVE that the Twitter Theme is now available on the actual page!!! THANKS FOLKS!
The meh logo dances in neat ways now
@WilhelmScreamer I thought it was a stupid change until you pointed that out. Now, best thing ever.
@WilhelmScreamer @medz It dances delightfully whenever they sing the word Meh! BRILLIANT!
@curtise I like how it moves differently based on the tempo of the song (IE the slower part in the middle of the main theme, the logo swoops. During the loud chorus parts it excitedly vibrates)
@WilhelmScreamer Okay, that is pretty darn cool.
The music.. At least it ain't the stones.. OR..
@unkabob You got no satisfaction, you could say.
I click on the club button but it's just trying to get me to join the club, but I'm already a mehmber?
I at least expected some cookies and coffee in there... maybe some old magazines to read and a couch or two?
meh.
I blame @carl669
@thismyusername cookies? what are you, 6? ask for something better like beef jerky or kielbasa or macadamia nuts or something.
@carl669 Well if it was amazon I would expect a stocked bar and nice recliners and perhaps some beef jerky, but we are talking about meh here... don't wanna push it ;)
@thismyusername excellent point.
Hey, @shawn. The new home page design is not standards compliant!
@SSteve it is a sad day indeed for the Logotheminator standard. About 7 years ago the "Woot Boogie" logo click was similarly lost in battle. (it used to cycle you through the then-3 woot sites)
@snapster OMG! i totally remember that! (had forgotten about it untill just now...)
@SSteve we need someone to create a Logotheminator v1.1 standard that is multiple theme song compliant.
@shawn Doesn't that have to be someone from Mediocre, or is it open to anyone who wants to to do it?
@dashcloud you should do it, create a reference implementation, then post the results in our forum
@shawn, I liked the new stuff until I tried it on an iPhone. The new icons are kludged up near the left corner. Can't use them.
And the meh logo is not operative.
Haven't tried the new stuff on a tablet, regardless of OS.
@RedOak They look and work correctly on android using opera
@Bingo and fine on iPad.
@RedOak i think your phone might have the images aggressively cached. we test in ios.
@katylava well, I certainly don't want my images "aggressively" cached. That sounds mean.
I tried deleting the meh.com data on the phone but that did not seem to help. I really don't want to clear the entire safari cache. Any ideas?
@RedOak (1) are you not on wi-fi? it might stubbornly use the cache when you are using cell data. (2)you could try refreshing a whole bunch as fast as it will let you. (3) what version of ios are you on?
@katylava I'm on wifi using iOS 7.x. I'll try the rapid fire refresh. Here is what it looks like:
@katylava Nope, mulitple rapid fire refreshes did not help. For kicks, again deleted the meh.com safari data, closed all apps, cycled the phone off and back on. Still no joy.
@RedOak thanks for the screenshot, i thought you had described a different problem. this is not a caching issue.
@katylava aha. BTW, not surprising in that it is running MS Explorer, but the new stuff works fine on a Surface running lowly Windows RT. All 10 Meh'rs owning a Surface RT will rejoice.
@katylava @RedOak FWIW, looks/works fine on iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3.
@katylava ping. Issue icon issue still there. I really like my iPhone so I'm not gonna change - especially since the only site with a problem is meh.com.
@SSteve @katylava @RedOak looks good on my iPhone 6 iOS 8.3 too, my only issue is the drop down menus don't go away if I click somewhere else on the page.

@sohmageek I know, I didn't do the best title on this, sorry. Obviously, I am not an official announcer :)
@mikibell it's fine. I just had to look a bit :) makes me read stuff not just blindly post :)
No purple?
Now there's a change worth making: Under the 'Themes' button (Or make a special button for this) add in homepage themes. One for @jrwofuga and one for @Barney. The first makes the background of the home page Georgia Red and the second makes it Purple.
@Bingo @Barney I wondered why no one had mentioned this. Saw your comment right after posting mine.
@Bingo @joelmw Purple joy for everyone!
@Barney Someone get @JonT on this!
I saw "themes" and immediately thought that I could change the color palette, fonts, layout and other meaningless stylistic elements. I was a little sad when I discovered that it's just a couple of songs. I are sad. I wonder if someone's getting royalties on every play . . .

@joelmw huh... you saw a musical note icon and thought you could change the site style?
@katylava Yes. Yes, I did.
@katylava I'm a word guy. I always focus on the words. I sometimes see or hear them where they don't exist. Besides, a musical note could denote style. I did in fact have that conversation in my head. "Hmmm," I says, "that's an interesting icon for 'theme.'" . . . @joelmw @katylava I did as well. Themes on web sites seem entrenched in my brain to mean style, not soundtrack.
@katylava in a world where this means save...
@nadroj Indeed, so many of these things have nonsensical icons that we know just through constant reinforcement. Glyphs are kinda arbitrary anyway though. Hell, even words can mean a lot of different things. Not to take away from your original point, which did make me literally LOL.
@joelmw @nadroj But the save icon isn't non-sensical. It's just antiquated. 3.5" floppy disks use to be my lifeblood.... before that 5.25"....
@BillLehecka Scarily enough, my sewing machine uses 3.5" floppy disks. So I still have and use a floppy disk drive!
@mikibell Mine just uses thread....
@katylava I thought the same thing about the themes.. I thought I was gonna mess with colors or fonts..
@kadagan Mine uses floppies to tell the needle where to put the thread.. ;)
@joelmw Someone did a study that found that, no matter the icon, at least 10% of the population will not understand it. It may be a different 10% for different icons, but you can never get the comprehension above 90% no matter what you do.

@kadagan this isnt true anymore
I do really like the menu for the forum icon. That was a good change.
@JonT where did the forums link after meh go? When in a thread there is no back to forums button. Only back to homepage on iOS today.
@sohmageek I'd like to have this back, too. At least it's still there on non-mobile devices.
@lljk @sohmageek possibly an oversight in the last iteration. I noted that double tapping the forum icon does the trick though (a second tap ignoring the menu drop down)
@snapster that works for me. Thanks :)
@sohmageek it doesn't fit on mobile, sorry.
There's a new button!
What is Meh?
(And now that you can't post in the FAQ anymore, I really wish that I had- damn you @carl669 for your wide-spread changes here!)
