Compass Positioning?
0Sorry for starting new threads but I haven't found any other threads of relevance so thinking, this may help someone else too!
I've picked up the Walkera G-3D gimbal, which also requires the use of taller landing gears. I picked up a "SummitLink" set from Amazon. Reasonable price. The legs do feel a little bit more flimsy than stock. The stance is taller and wider quite a bit.
I had to mount the compass a little higher up the leg where it's not completely vertical. I'm unclear if I can pull anymore of the cable out from the body (I'm getting lazy, opened this thing up way too many times).
Question, how important is it to have the compass as close as possible to vertical? Should I/do I need to re-calibrate?
Thanks!

@sportykev, positioning accuracy will be affected by the compass location, but it's not catastrophic. Altitude is calculated and maintained via GPS data, heading is maintained via magnetometer (compass).
If I had to anticipate an effect of a tilted compass, I would guess maybe the heading direction might not be rock stable, and maybe the usual TBE may be more noticeable. The P1 isn't going to fall out of the clouds, or go SkyNet and return to the mother ship.
I wouldn't recommend flying in Home Lock (headless) mode until you're comfortable with the effect. Then try Home Lock, prepared to RTH if orientation gets too wonky.
But... in the end... I suspect if you do a calibration with the new mag location, you'll be in good shape.
Maybe consider ordering a cable extension at some point.
@ruouttaurmind thanks for the feedback. Some amount of TBE is normal right? (Daniel-san's sand the floor?) I saw some of this during a quick test flight on 9443 xoxo (btw were terrible).
@sportykev It seems TBE and Phantom go together like peanut butter and cabbage.
I think it's something in their software that sprouts the circular motion.
I don't have that problem with the CX-20, the Quanum Nova or any of the Walkeras. If you watch the video I posted recently of the Tali/FYT Gimbal, when I wasn't fussing with the controls to flex the gimbal, the Tali only waivers a foot or so. And most of that was because of the breeze. No TBE at all on Tali.
@sportykev PS: Agree on the XOXO counterfeit rotors. Mine were so bad I didn't even try a test flight.
