Color/Fun Run
1Hey meh friends, has anyone here organized a color or fun run?
I am tasked with starting a “run” for a fundraiser. I know where to start with the town, but I do not have any clue about the mechanics of a walk/run. The few I have been involved in had trackers and chips, etc. Does anyone have a suggestion of who to use/where to get? Also, how do you get best estimate of attendees? Was it worth the effort to do online registration?
Any cautions for using the colored powder? I have looked into prices of t-shirts and sunglasses. I know not to use it on the high school track/football field. Any other gotchas?
What do you do if it rains??
I have seen $25 per adult and from $5-$15 per child, free under 4 or such. Is this fair? ( The question about the trackers makes me nervous about how much profit to expect – remember fundraiser. )
Any info/insight is greatly appreciated.

Be careful of the chalk/dust. It can sometimes be flammable like powdered non-dairy creamer.
@medz huh… we are using cornstarch… I hope it doesn’t do that, but I don’t expect to be throwing flares at people too
@mikibell
@RiotDemon ok… no torches on the route either!
@mikibell a lot of powders can be flammable. Even cinnamon!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone at a color run being set on fire.

I do a demonstration blowing lycopodium powder through a candle flame- makes an impressive ball of fire. Also corn and grain silos explode.
@mikibell @sammydog01 ack!
@RiotDemon I did know that… (mythbusters!!) I agree on the low chance of being set on fire – but I did ask for input We are passing two firehouses on the route! Will also have ambulances avail, so I think I have the fire risk mitigated if I eliminate sparkable sources !!
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 yup… saw that too!!!
@mikibell maybe you should just do something like a rainbow or neon run where everyone dresses up in crazy colors.

@RiotDemon sweet… we were going to use white shirts with coloring page silk screened on them for the colors to stain but that is cute!
@mikibell I would ask the firemen- if they’re good with it give it a shot.
@sammydog01 Yes, that one was terrifying. The color run should be fine as long as there are no areas that the powder would be in a large concentration. I haven’t heard of any issues with the festival of colors (Holi) in India.

Just in case…
