I have never been one for milk in coffee, now a latte is different ,but that is not what cold foam is for
but i have grown to really like it, on cold brew, it also looks cool
does anyone have an expensive but good for home cold foam recommended frother?
International delight * Cold Foam… Its amazing.
Yeah, Team CS is all pretty into the International Delight Cold Foam.
@ChadP cold Farm is not necessarily the same thing. It really is milk or sometimes half and half that is lightly froth. But not necessarily sweetened.
Reddi Wips sweet foam is great too.
I tried it and didn’t love it. Like…at all. Just wasn’t for me. I’m pretty simple with my cream needs though. While the foam didn’t work, I do like to shake my creamer so much that it bubbles on top and adds a thin layer that way. To each their own though. I don’t deny that there’s clearly a market for that stuff.
@ExtraMedium yeah I’m not a fan of sugar but I like to kind of effect that it has just that little tiny bit of it on the top. The one place I had it managed to do it thick enough that they actually had to spoon it on, but most of them it’s a thin poor
I had no idea this was a thing. I’m putting it on my shopping list.
I actually have a hot chocolate maker with a cold foam setting. Can you foam almond milk?
@sammydog01
What does a hot chocolate maker do? Just warm the milk?
@Star2236 Warm, mix, and froth. I have this one:
@sammydog01 I don’t think so. But you can foam oat milk. But what the heck try it
I got one at Target for $3.00 a few months ago, on a whim - it’s similar to this one. I use it to froth hot milk for my coffee but evidently you can use it with cold milk too. I like it a lot!
@Kyeh I have a frother I got from TJ Maxx that I use to make fluffy omelettes, since I don’t drink coffee.
/showme a very fluffy omelette
@mediocrebot Mine aren’t that fluffy
@heartny that looks like it’s half macaron and half suspended seaweed algae (it’s what’s used to bind those “food marbles”).
@heartny A little one like that? I’m impressed!
@Kyeh have been at supper places where they mix it with a little bit of homemade syrup often a flavor that you really might not think to go with coffee and then they pour just a little bit over the top of a cup full of cold brew and the cold phone you know just kind of dribbles down into it. I’ve also had it where it’s very stiff and probably has some other sort of additive to it is it stays on top and it it doesn’t it does lose its way down but not the same way
@Cerridwyn Fancy! I’ll have to try it with cold milk and cold brew coffee sometime soon (we’re getting a streak of 90 degree temps this week - ugh.)
@Kyeh grin, i hear yah
the place closest to me does a blueberry vanilla cold foam on cold brew. doesn’t sound appetizing but it’s actually yummy
then there is a place about 30 away or so that does the firmer cold foam, coffee isn’t good, but atmosphere is worth the drive and what i’ve had there is salted caramel. its stickier, so my guess is whipped harder, but i dunno
so cal? Arizona? NV?
@Cerridwyn CO! And it’s supposed to drop over the weekend so that’s a relief. Blueberry vanilla does sound odd, but I’d try it.
@Kyeh I bought one of those for foaming milk when I had an espresso machine. Now I use it for making a quick balsamic/olive oil salad dressing. Works great.
@macromeh Oh, I’ll bet! Maybe I’ll have to get another for that reason.
@Kyeh Those are also sold at Ikea for a couple bucks.
@jester747 I really wish Ikea wasn’t so far awy from where I live.
Isn’t cold foam just whipped cream?
(Which I’ve forgotten you can do with chickpea water; ten minutes in a blender and the water foams and thickens.)
@pakopako not exactly. Because it’s not done with cream it’s usually done with milk. And can be done with oat milk and often is, usually the barista level of Oatly
@Cerridwyn @pakopako
aka Aquafaba
I’ve gone through several frothers. I’ve been using this one about 1.5 years and like it the best. Non-stick ones always seem to get one spot that burns and then scrubs off. This one is super easy to clean, especially with unsweetened almond milk. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SQPF48O
I use mine for heating, but it does have a no heat setting that I honestly haven’t tried.
I had to go look this up, I had no idea that cold-frothed milk was a thing. And now that I know that it exists, and what it is, I know that I can ignore it going forward. I likes me some butterfat.
I like to mix condensed milk, half & half and vanilla (or other flavor if desired) at home. If you put it in directly it is more of a sweet creamer, but if you froth it with one of those cheep little wire things you can float it on top like a cold foam.
@arielleslie nice
@arielleslie ah, I keep mixing up condensed milk (sweetened) with evaporated milk (unsweetened)
…
They really need a unifying name.
I warm foamed almond milk today. It did not change my coffee experience. Maybe it needs sugar.
@Cerridwyn NYT Wirecutter has opinions about this:
https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-milk-frothers/
@Kyeh looked at several listsicles and bought one that came out on more than one list and bought some of that chocolate essence which gives you a mild chocolate taste without using a sugar syrup, it was yum.
@Cerridwyn Which one did you buy?
@Kyeh ElitaPro Powerful Milk Frother Wand - 2 in 1 Handheld Coffee Frother and Egg Beater - Mini Foam Maker With Stand - Whisk Drink Mixer & Foamer for Coffee, Latte, Matcha, Hot Chocolate (Black) https://a.co/d/0aa1LMYR
Price was an object they didn’t want to pay a lot of money, and I also wanted one of the little ones that’s just battery operated and sits in the corner because I want to make sure they’re going to use it more than three or four times before I think about a big one and I don’t want something that does the volume of milk you put in the latte I only want an ounce or two at the most
@Cerridwyn Oh, that’s similar to what I have, but mine has only a single row of coils. That comes in a lot of nice colors!
@Kyeh and it has the little mini whisk thing too. I haven’t tried that part yet. I have some of the lower range Barista oat milk I’ve been playing a little bit with
@Cerridwyn I just watched the video - the mini-whisk is cute! If my $3.00 Target one gives up the ghost I’ll probably try this.
@Kyeh worked pretty good for being that cheap
I used this to add to the oat mlik
@Cerridwyn Oooo, that’s tempting!
@Kyeh it is not sweet, and it’s mild and just enough if that makes sense.
i but some cold brew in the freezer for about 30 minutes, until a few ice crystals were starting to form. (I didn’t have any ice cubes, lol) and put the cold brew into a larger wine glass. took the oat milk with the chocolate and foamed it as much as i could and then spooned the cold foam onto the top of the coffee, it was pretty nice. (I need to make some coffee ice cubes, )
@Cerridwyn Sounds delightful - very gourmet!
@Kyeh very boogie. Sometimes you gotta
