@MariSama @werehatrack Oh, I was wondering why Percy Bysshe Shelley made the shirt. I guess that Shelley is his wife. OTOH, I’m not sure why she would be there, since her main claims to fame are secondly the novel Frankenstein but primarily being Percy’s wife. (There are numerous female writers I would rate higher.)
But I did enjoy the film Young Frankenstein, so kudos to her for the novel!

Hero is also gender-neutral. Just as actor is.

In addition, it is somewhat imperialist of American English to impose its gender neutrality upon vocabulary, as that is not the case with many other languages that are inherently gendered, particularly those of modern Europe, namely Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, etc.

Can’t you all take a joke and sarcasm. BTW I am “proficient” (not fluent) in a few of those languages. They are called romance languages. Not just modern europe. Hard to call Romania a modern European country.

If you’re going to call out Romance languages as a proper name, at least use proper case. And I know what a Romance language is, I was catering to the audience that would more readily understand “French”, “Italian”, and “Spanish”, and know they are inherently gendered, rather than the proper, more scholarly term of “Romance Languages”.

I was trying to refrain from mentioning the backlash to the peculiarly American invention of and forced usage (meaning an improper fit, not authoritarian decree) of “LatinX” instead of “Latino” or (if exclusively feminine) “Latina”, which is being wholeheartedly rejected by the Latin diaspora. Which itself is a blatantly colonial reference of European origin, and inherently excludes the indigenous people of the Americas.

But hey, Princess Karen, you do you.
