Cinoclav's Field of 32 Day 7
14Whew, that was a close one. Personally, I had no idea which product was going to win when I positioned them against each other. I just felt like both Chromebooks and Neoprene Cases had strong support on both sides and either one could advance. To the disappointment of several of you Chromebook loving fools (but not to @f00l who was all about that fancy rubber) the Neoprene Cases squeaked out the 19 to 17 win. Good luck Cases, you’re going up against Flashlights in the next round.
What better way to spend your Sunday than dwelling on the superiority of WiFi Cameras or Meh T-Shirts. Well, I can think of plenty of ways to better spend your Sunday but dammit, this is kind of important! WiFi Cameras are a true classic of not only meh, but it’s forefather woot. Seriously, just how many iterations of that camera has Foscam made? But you know what woot didn’t have? T-Shirts! Oh wait… yeah, I guess they kind of did have a little shirt thing going on. But they didn’t have meh shirts! Hmm, come to think of it, they’ve had numerous versions of shirts that said meh on them. I know what they didn’t have! They didn’t have shirts that they printed themselves and shipped out of a warehouse in Texas! Ahhhh, fuck it. You know what we’re voting on so just go do it.

WiFi Cameras!
Meh T-Shirts!
Whew! This one was actually hard.
@mehcuda67
I own several of each, but these little gems are the only thing I use on a daily basis:
Not from meh, but within the general category, so I’m going with WiFi cams for the win.
@ruouttaurmind But… you haven’t voted for them yet.
@cinoclav I am at a disadvantage, as I’ve been traveling and don’t know the official rules of the game, so I hoped it wouldn’t gum up the works if I just opined in the daily topics rather than registering an official vote. Please let me know if that’s not kosher?
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind
I gather it’s all done on whim? For whatever reasons might occur to one?
@f00l @ruouttaurmind Exactly. There’s no official rule as to why or which one to vote for. Vote for one if you simply like it better or vote for one if you think it was the more important piece of mehistory. From the comments I feel as most have voted for the product they personally prefer.
@cinoclav posts two products up against each other daily, @ruouttaurmind. Just click the star gizmo for the one you are voting for. Or click both, like some people are doing.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@cinoclav @f00l @ruouttaurmind Myself, I spend hours in quiet contemplation of the candidates, and then vote, using all the gravitas Meh has to offer.
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
/giphy “Oklahoma gravitas”
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
Those are Texans. Pretty sure of it.
And that sculpture is on view in Texas.
Maybe the internet automatically auto-forwards the phrase “Oklahoma gravitas” to Texas?
@cinoclav @f00l @ruouttaurmind What you might have down there is a copy, because Frederic Remington’s Off the Range (Coming Through the Rye) is part of the National Gallery of Art’s collection. I know my Remington, because we had a rich oilman buy up a metric fuckton of Remington stuff which ended up in a nice museum here in Tulsa.
So quit trying to appropriate my cultural heritage.
@ruouttaurmind so what kind is that security camera that you use and like?
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
frequently more than one copy was cast of these sculptures, esp if they are small. All these copies are “originals”, made from the same original mold, often made directly one after another, as the artist directed, or to fill orders.
The one in FW is an original also. And we have a huge collection of Remington and Rusell original art here, as Texas also generates rich oil people and other rich folk who like art.
This particular sculpture is a fav part of my life from childhood. So there.
@cinoclav @f00l @ruouttaurmind So an original copy then huh? Gotcha. You know they sell those in the museum gift shop?
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
The one I mentioned in FW is an “original copy” in exactly the same sense as the one you referenced - which is also an “original copy” within that meaning of the phrase.
I think the curator people at the National Gallery and at the Carter Museum all understand how to research this aspect.
No worries. It’s cool.
@cinoclav @f00l @ruouttaurmind Okay, I won’t try to disabuse you, because “Texan” but know that I’m right.
@f00l I’m a little disappointed. I was expecting a multi-page Remington screed from you by now…it’s been an hour…it doesn’t have to be annotated. We’ll just take you at your word.
@therealjrn
You know. Typing -+ driving = BAD.
This was a very difficult sculpture to cast, prob due to so many horses’ feet not touching the base. The raw model was created in 1902.
The one at the Amon Carter Museum was #12 of those cast by the artist’s workshop. It was originally purchased for Carter’s personal collection. He founded a museum based on his collection much later in life.
The National Gallery one was ordered in 1903 (ordered directly by the Corcoran Collection, which was later incorporated into the Corcoran portion of the National Gallery collection.)
Amon Carter and Sid Richardson were both pre-eminent Western art collectors. Their collections are now in their museums in FW, and, when young, I loved to visit these with my always-right grandmother.
@Kidsandliz
The one pictured is a Wyze Cam. I have four of them. They are relatively tiny, about 2x2x2 inches. Color 1080p full HD, night vision, 2-way audio, microSD slot for event recording (motion or sound detection) and FREE cloud services (no additional monthly fees). Also compatible with Echo Show devices to view the live or recorded video feed.
$20 each direct from Wyze, or $26 from Amz with free shipping. Can’t be beat for the price.
@cinoclav @f00l @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
The only reason Oklahoma isn’t part of Canada today is because Texas sucks so hard.
@cinoclav @mike808 @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
/giphy Yeah
@ruouttaurmind SO you need to buy an Echo thing to see the feed live or recorded?
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind I was just looking at the website and looks like it has WiFi so you can view it remotely on your phone or tablet or computer. The Echo is just to use to control it.
Looks like a pretty good deal, except it doesn’t move on it’s own like in the animation above. But, whatayawant for $20? It’ll let you talk to your dog!
@Kidsandliz
You can view on your favorite mobile devices, but not from a PC (for now). But if you happen to have one of the Echo video capable devices (Echo Show, Echo Spot, Fire TV, etc), you can use those also.
Plus it delivers push notifications to your mobile devices when it detects motion or sound based on your preferences as configured in the mobile app.
And it’s IFTTT savvy as well.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat Wyze does offer the Wyze Cam Pan for $30. 360 degree pan, 93 degree tilt, otherwise the same capabilities.
@ruouttaurmind Of course what I really need is something hidden as what would happen here is the folks who enter our apartments and steal would just steal these too.
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind Sort of the point of having it automatically upload images to the cloud. They can’t steal those and you’ll still have your evidence.
@cinoclav Well that’s true. Hadn’t thought about it that way.
@cinoclav @Kidsandliz Among the many items stolen during the Great Caper of October 2016, the burglar(s) took the DVR portion of my video surveillance system. Obvs this was not their first rodeo. I doubt they had any interest in the equipment, and were merely disposing of evidence. That is when I began augmenting my video surveillance system to include some cloud based services. I purchased four of these Wyze Cams and have been satisfied with their capability and functionality. The small size is particularly nice as it’s easy to tuck them behind a silk plant or something so they aren’t so obvious.
This is such an easy question it’s practically trampy.
@UncleVinny Just think, they could end up face to face with the flashlights. That could get interesting.
Yay neoprene cases - let’s go T-Shirts!
T-shirts
I disagree with this one. It should have been LED lanterns vs WiFi cameras. @cincoclav you were around for that bit of mehstalgia right???
@sohmageek I’ve been around pretty much since the beginning and I remember several led lanterns but I don’t recall anything special about them. Was there some issue I’ve blocked out of my mehmory?
@cinoclav we bought led lanterns but got security cameras then were asked to return them or buy them but were told legally we could keep them for free.
@sohmageek Ah yes, now I remember that debacle.
Woke up to a pure unadulterated ass kicking. Who would’ve thought there’d be this much love for cotton?!
@cinoclav Cotton Inc?

@narfcake I may have just ‘folded up’ and quit if YOU had chosen cameras.

Might be able to call this one early …
@stolicat Definitely but I still like to have a final count.
