Yeah! And when it jumps up on you and you scream obscenities in the dog’s face and shove it’s ass to the ground YOU’RE the bad guy all the sudden.

Bit of a pet peeve? I do agree, though. I have a dog in my family and she and I have worked hard to make sure I never have to say “She’s all right” after the fact. I only ever say it if people ask if they or their children can pet her.
Oddly enough, over the past couple of years, I have started to hear griping from the pet owners that people are “interrupting their bonding time with their dog”. Apparently, the onus is on us to cross the street when we see them coming in order to avoid distracting their dog.
@DrWorm yeah. When I’m coming close to anyone, I shorten the leash a lot. I think that makes people worry so they usually give me a little space. I guess having a big dog that’s probably mostly pitbull scares people also. My dog is just the type that wants to sniff you to death.
A few weeks ago I talked about dog sitting in a different thread… Those dogs, dear Lord. They’d knock smaller people down. They know if they jump on me, I stick my knee out. So they’ll just kinda bunny hop in front of me unless they want a knee to the chest. They have absolutely no leash manners at all.
I read the thread you linked. I see their point, but how much time can one person take petting your dog? If you’re in a rush, after they get a quick pet in, just say, “We gotta go now, see ya!” If they try to talk, just tell them you have to be somewhere. I guess I feel a little different because I let my dog in the backyard to go to the bathroom. Leashed walks are for fun/exercise.
The only thing that bothers me about people wanting to pet my dog is when I ask them to wait until I get my dog to sit. I want her to have manners. It absolutely drives me crazy when they don’t wait and my dog starts to get hyper and bouncy. I’ll ask them to wait and the person will say, “It’s fine, I love dogs!” No, it’s not fine. Grr.
@DrWorm I always ask before I pet a dog, and “no” is an OK response. If the owner tells me he’s trying to keep his dog from jumping on people I respect that, and I wait if they are getting the dog to sit.
@RiotDemon To make it clear, I was citing that email as an example and I have heard that same complaint dozens of times. “Please don’t touch my dog, you are interrupting my quality time with my pet”. The only time I ever pet a dog while taking a walk is if that dog makes contact with me first (i.e. jumping up and putting his paws on me). In that case, I can only assume that the dog wants attention. If someone is that adverse to me petting his/her dog, that person should at least make an attempt at keeping it from touching me first.
That chicken sounds an awful lot like @matthew.
I don’t see it
@matthew But can you hear it?!

@ELUNO this disturbs me.
@ELUNO that pug is clearly a halo player.
@RiotDemon @thismyusername
What’s that cocks name?
@thismyusername Cocky McCockface
That chicken in an even bigger curmudgeon that Glen.
Totally agree with the chicken. Standards for dog handling should be way higher, than they are now.
I would say that cigarette is surgically attached, but my mother-in-law can do that same gravity defying maneuver.

Leash your damn dogs when you’re outside.
Come on guys. Dogs are magical creatures that deserve all your love.

I love this rapping so much.
There’s something about this chicken that I really want it to be playing with one of the squeaky chickens

I’m love my dog as much as the next guy, but when taking her for a walk, it is my responsible to try to keep her away from others.

@DrWorm Well, those people are just insane. Who gets jealous over a dog?
@DrWorm that’s just bizarre. I find dog owners to usually be more open to talking with strangers.
You would think bonding time with the dog would be done at home, in a quiet space.
