Chienfou, what have you done?
12Another package arrived today, so I really need to reiterate.
The 7th rule of the Secret-Not-So-Secret coffee club is that reciprocity is frowned upon.
I received wonderful homemade things from the garden of @chienfou . Sadly, the chipotle sauce broke in transit, but I was able to get a taste, and it is amazing! Unfortunately, it is full of broken glass so I couldn’t keep it. ![]()
The pepper jelly is intact and can’t wait to taste it with smoked cream cheese. Going to put some cream cheese on the smoker when I fire it up this weekend. I’m sorry the bottle broke on its way to me, but it tasted amazing and I really appreciate the thought. And despite the fact that the bottle broke… my house smells AMAZING right now ![]()
Thank you, Mad Dog. Thank you very much.

/showme the look of dismay on one’s face when opening a box that contained a broken bottle of chipotle sauce. The pieces of glass taste good, though.
/showme person carefully licking chipotle sauce off of a broken piece of glass. The dog is watching and thinking, “wth, bruh?”
@medz The dog looks perfect.
That’s kind of how it went. I’m not taking the trash out for a week because everything in my house smells so wonderful. But with my semi-colon, I probably shouldn’t eat glass. The little bits I did get to taste were fantastic. I’ll just pretend that the truck got stuck on train tracks and that didn’t end well for the wonderful sauce
The little bit I was able to enjoy was incredible.
Thank you @chienfou
It was incredibly thoughtful. Sorry things broke on the way to me. And even though I was going to wait to open the pepper jelly, I just had a spoonful and… don’t make me use all the f-bombs
That is fucking amazing! (stopping at one f-bomb
)
Thank you, sir. I didn’t think I could love nurses even more
Truly. Thank you.
Don’t consider this as reciprocity. I had to wait for you to send me your address (return label on the fantastic coffee packaging) so that I could share this with you. I’m bummed about the hot sauce. But that’s on me for not doing a better job of packing. Glad the rest of it made it okay.
Oh… And my son-in-law said the coffee I shared with him over Labor Day weekend from you was the best coffee he’s had since he visited Cuba last year.
@chienfou Glad you enjoyed the coffee. And you are still in the club.
Solid chance you might get more.
@capnjb @chienfou you all make me jelly that i didn’t think of this
@capnjb

@Cerridwyn–Jelly? You’re going to make jelly?
Pepper jelly is really good …
You could get the recipe from @chienfou …
@capnjb @chienfou @Kyeh
nah
i actually don’t eat jelly any more really.
apple butter once in a blue moon, but not jelly
@capnjb @Cerridwyn @chienfou Heh. I don’t eat it much either, but I DO get pepper jelly to have with bread and cheese!
I had a bumper crop of Italian prune plums in my yard a few years ago, and I made refrigerator jam, but I ended up giving most of it to my mother because she loved it and was eating it much faster than I was.
@capnjb @Cerridwyn @Kyeh
Likewise. I’m not a jelly person except for the pepper jelly. And as you mentioned, the vast majority of mine end up as presents.
All my fruit products are generally jams or butters. I make (low or no sugar) bourbon fig and bourbon peach jam, blueberry jam, and raspberry or strawberry (if I can get them reasonably) jams, as well as pear butter.
I’ve been having fun experimenting with fermented hot sauce lately. SIL brought down some habaneros that I will plan to incorporate into the next batch. Some of that just might show up on your porch one day.
As for the pepper jelly, glad you liked it. Who knew smoked cream cheese was even a thing? That has become my “go-to” bring-an-item-to-a-party dish.
The chipotle powder has a great smoky base with mild heat and is wonderful sprinkled over eggs, veggies, burgers, and ,well… damn near anything…
@chienfou I do like to do a good ferment. I also like to do a good hot honey. Paper thin slices of habanero peppers tossed in a mason jar, covered in honey and then forgotten about for a year
@capnjb
Remember buying some hot maple syrup from this site, years ago. They also had a coffee one. I may have to try that with the honey and/or some maple syrup come to think of it.
@chienfou I will have to send you some marzano chiles when I get home. They should be about ready to harvest. I can dry them or send them fresh. You just let me know. They’re between a Serrano and a habanero on the Scoville scale.
@sillyheathen
I’d like that. Let me know when you get home…
@chienfou we’re on the way to Lihue right now. I will let you know tomorrow or the day after. I’m sad we’re leaving but I had the most amazing time and can’t complain even a little. I had a glass of wine with fresh fruit for dinner last night.
@chienfou
That looks like a note One-eyed Willy would leave.
