@tinamarie1974 isn’t that the same as the dinner spins? At least in most sets nowadays. Personally what’s missing to me are the long handle spoons. I use them way more than I do teaspoons in fact my set has the double teaspoons which were common for a long time and I rarely use any of them I use the dinner spoons and the long-handled iced teaspoons. So at some point if I ever need to replace them I’m going to pay a fortune because it only found one place that makes cool ones that you can get those to match
@Cerridwyn not the same. Sets usually include teaspoons/tablespoons, but no soup or ice tea spoons as you pointed out.
Dated a guy once who felt v strongly that he needed soup spoons for his soup. Drove him crazy and I had to watch him at restaurants because his soup spoon always found its way into his pocket!!
@tinamarie1974 I actually found a set that offers it all. Some as addon’s but very expensive but some very very cool patterns. I actually considered it and then had to slap myself and say don’t be silly
@Cerridwyn oh their product is lovely!!! THEY HAVE SOUP SPOONS!!! I would also spend a small fortune to get everything I would want. But as you said, nice to drool over though
@tinamarie1974 and I have a thing for Celtic interlace. Love the Celtic pattern. I actually almost put it in the cart once and then as I said I had to say don’t to myself don’t be stupid
@Cerridwyn@tinamarie1974 Whoa, gorgeous! I love the Earth pattern. But several years ago, Safeway did this great promotion, where you could collect points to get Cuisinart stuff, mostly knives but also a flatware set. So I went for that, because flatware with roosters on it were irresistible to me.
But look how huge they all are! My normal sized Oneida set on the left, and the Cuisinart set on the right. And obligatory bananas.
@AaronLeeJohnson@TheCO2@Trinityscrew when the forks run away with the spoons, what they don’t tell you is that spoons are cereal killers. They use the knife to kill the forks and then bury the evidence.
@AaronLeeJohnson Well the spoons run away with the dishes. And while I can’t prove it, I strongly suspect that the forks and knives are hanging out with the socks that escaped on laundry day.
@AaronLeeJohnson@Trinityscrew was thinking the socks too! Excitedly and fittingly, just yesterday I found a sock that had been missing for more than a week! Crazy how satisfying one sock can be.
I used to have a nice set of 18/10 Oneida flatware, but at least 50% of the forks and spoons mysteriously disappeared over the course of a year or so. I decided to pull out the rest in hopes of saving them until the kids were old enough to not walk off with them.
Well….the 2 that are still at home are 18 and 22…and I’m still not sure they’re ready.
I did pick up a set of these. Crossing my fingers they’ll stick around.
@stinks FWIW stainless steel can still rust if you try hard enough, and I’ve seen people do some mind boggling stuff to silverware and cutlery. “I ran it through the dishwasher once and only left it for 11 days before I unloaded it and it already has rust spots! 1 out of 5!!!”
@stinks if you check the Amazon listing and the reviews you will see that the same reviews apply to all products offered under that listing. the review you refer to was for the design “Azore Sand” which is different from what is sold here.
@hchavers Those are still made, probably won’t match whatever silverware you own, but then again that wouldn’t bother me (and I own some that match nothing).
@hchavers ah yes, the grapefruit spoon! Haven’t thought of those in a while. Reminds me of eating grapefruit as a kid. I should score us some new ones of those! Did you ever have a grapefruit knife?
You say these are 3d, but I’m looking at the pictures and they all look 2d to me. Do they inflate once you take them out of the box or something? I’m not falling for this scam again. I’ve been eating everything with my hands for 7 years now.
@brennyn these are meant for people who have 3.5 friends over for lunch AND dinner. Obviously no one has 7 friends. I have none, so I just buy extra flatware to avoid doing dishes for a week.
Eh, why not. I was looking for a set and these look at least as nice as the ones at Costco that I was considering around the same price. Both 18/10 and I like the design of these better.
The good side of buying good quality silverware for an inexpensive price: you’ve got good quality silverware and didn’t pay a lot.
The bad side: someone is gonna lose or damage a piece or three. So, you really should buy more than you need while you can or expect to pay full price for any replacements. So every time a deal like this comes up, you have to consider it.
Source: bought 2x 20 piece sets of some stuff I really like for cheap in 2018 and have kids. A full 20 piece set is gonna cost me around $50. I struggle with that as the original price for the deal was $28 for the two sets.
@bakerzdosen Agree with this. We bought really nice silverware a few years back which is no longer obtainable and are now missing enough pieces I really wish we’d bought two sets.
@jmruru I don’t see why not. However I’d like to recommend my preferred system I figured out about 10 years ago – forget the silly drawer organizer and just use a stainless steel low canister and place it on the counter near where you usually prepare to serve stuff. Yes, put the spoons and forks and even (OMG!) maybe knives in it. When you are ready to serve grab what you need. This includes a mix of small and large spoons and small and large forks, if you have those variants (but not super-big serving spoons or anything). Made my life much simpler!
But I am only serving for 1 (me) or 2 (me and unfortunate guest) people. I can see that if your household does the “set the table” thing then you may want to have them sorted as our forefathers did.
I know there’s probably some etiquette class or book that could teach me what a salad spoon is and how to use it, but I still don’t think I’d pick up a spoon when looking down at a salad in front of me. I’m going fork every time. What am I missing? I’m picturing using the fork and spoon together in some kind of pasta-twirling-like move, but I just don’t understand the logistics. Is there a soup fork?
@warpedrotors well, I swear I saw salad spoon written somewhere, but it looks like it must’ve been a hallucination. I’ll leave my confused rant here anyway though. And yes, I know there’s a big spoon for serving salads, but I swear I saw “8 salad spoons” here. I’ll go back to sleep now.
@warpedrotors a soup fork might be handy for a stew, a really thick chili, or the quite popular now chicken tortilla. I like a proteiny soup. Just spear the meaty bits and drink from the bowl whatever is left. Maybe that’s why they invented the spork.
@JWhirly the spork was invented by Colonel Sanders in preparation for his fight with the Burger King. The rules stated that no knives, forks, or spoons could be used as weapons, so the Colonel created a spoon-fork hybrid and won the battle easily. This is why Burger King chicken tenders were discontinued and their nuggets taste like boiled Styrofoam.
I just want to be clear, I didn’t want to buy this. As a 40 year old man who has never bought silverware from anywhere but a thrift store and takes some amount of pride in the variety in my cutlery drawer, I was bullied into buying by the price and quality.
Also my divorce is going to be final in 11 days and I have a lingering fear in the back of my mind that the crap I got away with when dating in my 20s isn’t going to fly when dating now. And I have a suspicion that matching silverware is one of those things a real adults are suppose to have.
Oh. My god. I was 3/4 of the way back to my highest streak and somehow this item slipped past my radar. I’ve been so insanely busy this week I guess I just passed out before checking.
It’s such a tiny insignificant thing, but it pisses me off so much, I was so close to breaking my record…
Way too high of a flatware turnover in my house. “Wasn’t me” fairies take utensils one by one. Definitely isn’t my 5 tweens-20 something’s.
These are high quality, I’m sure the fairies will love them.

Forking great deal!
Don’t need these; I found a fork in the road.
Where are the soup spoons? Sets never include them
@tinamarie1974 isn’t that the same as the dinner spins? At least in most sets nowadays. Personally what’s missing to me are the long handle spoons. I use them way more than I do teaspoons in fact my set has the double teaspoons which were common for a long time and I rarely use any of them I use the dinner spoons and the long-handled iced teaspoons. So at some point if I ever need to replace them I’m going to pay a fortune because it only found one place that makes cool ones that you can get those to match
@Cerridwyn It can be, but most a soup spoons are round, not elongated, with a deeper bowl. Depends on the type of soup being served.
@tinamarie1974 Is that ironic?
@Hanky @tinamarie1974
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
@tinamarie1974 I got a order of these after seeing them at a local store. By far my favorite soup spoon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014KLUY3W/
@Hanky @tinamarie1974
Nope, stainless steel.
@darkzrobe thanks Ill check them out!!!

Great place to drool over, especially if you like eclectic flatware
@Cerridwyn oh their product is lovely!!! THEY HAVE SOUP SPOONS!!! I would also spend a small fortune to get everything I would want. But as you said, nice to drool over though
@tinamarie1974 and I have a thing for Celtic interlace. Love the Celtic pattern. I actually almost put it in the cart once and then as I said I had to say don’t to myself don’t be stupid

@Cerridwyn @tinamarie1974
You could get a set of just the iced tea spoons in the Celtic pattern!
It’s funny how these utensils always have a way of vanishing and no one knows where they go.
@AaronLeeJohnson You have boys; don’t you?
@AaronLeeJohnson @TheCO2 @Trinityscrew when the forks run away with the spoons, what they don’t tell you is that spoons are cereal killers. They use the knife to kill the forks and then bury the evidence.
@AaronLeeJohnson Well the spoons run away with the dishes. And while I can’t prove it, I strongly suspect that the forks and knives are hanging out with the socks that escaped on laundry day.
@AaronLeeJohnson @Trinityscrew was thinking the socks too! Excitedly and fittingly, just yesterday I found a sock that had been missing for more than a week! Crazy how satisfying one sock can be.
@AaronLeeJohnson @TheCO2 I have 2 boys and a girl, and my daughter is just as bad, lol!
I used to have a nice set of 18/10 Oneida flatware, but at least 50% of the forks and spoons mysteriously disappeared over the course of a year or so. I decided to pull out the rest in hopes of saving them until the kids were old enough to not walk off with them.

The two outta 46 Amazon ratings that aren’t five stars say these get spots on them/rust. $0.02.
Anybody have any experience with the brand?
@stinks If they rust then they definitely aren’t the “highest quality stainless steel you can buy” Meh is so boldly advertising, lol.
@stinks Amazon mixes stock. Could be fake. Potentially.

Whatever happened to grapefruit spoons, the ones with the serrated edges? I miss those lip slices.
@hchavers Those are still made, probably won’t match whatever silverware you own, but then again that wouldn’t bother me (and I own some that match nothing).
@hchavers Searching for “spife” will get you that. (And various other weird designs.)
@hchavers ah yes, the grapefruit spoon! Haven’t thought of those in a while. Reminds me of eating grapefruit as a kid. I should score us some new ones of those! Did you ever have a grapefruit knife?
@hchavers @JWhirly My parents had a grapefruit knife too (well actually more than one).
@brennyn @hchavers “spife,” huh? I never knew they were called that!
So you are selling these to go with all the food you have been selling?
lmao i literally have cutlery from goodwill
The wide pointy bases would irritate me to no end. And probably won’t fit in my dishwasher’s holders.
Costco all day on the category.
I know nothing about these in particular, but I can say from experience that 18/10 (or maybe 18/8) flatware is what one wants.
18/0 bends easily. The 10% nickel makes a huge difference.
You say these are 3d, but I’m looking at the pictures and they all look 2d to me. Do they inflate once you take them out of the box or something? I’m not falling for this scam again. I’ve been eating everything with my hands for 7 years now.
Darned if I didn’t listen to them about the “only use the teaspoons for tea or else they will dissolve” thing.
I thought, “Surely I can stir some cream and sugar into my coffee with these.”
But sure enough, I lifted the teaspoon from the coffee mug, and all that was left was a steaming nub of spoon handle, and some drippy bits on the end.
The coffee did give a nice silver sheen to my teeth though, so all in all not the worst day.
Who the heck even knows seven other people, yet alone seven people that would come over for dinner at the same time?
@brennyn these are meant for people who have 3.5 friends over for lunch AND dinner. Obviously no one has 7 friends. I have none, so I just buy extra flatware to avoid doing dishes for a week.
@brennyn Don’t look at it as inviting seven other people. Look at it as being able to go 7 days without washing dishes.
I can’t afford.food after inflation. Why would I buy cutlery?
@OnionSoup this is one way to have nice flatware for us and many of our dumpster diving friends!
Great write-up, as usual.
Eh, why not. I was looking for a set and these look at least as nice as the ones at Costco that I was considering around the same price. Both 18/10 and I like the design of these better.
/giphy outgoing-comfortable-centaur
@louisdi Costco you can return after years though
@louisdi yeahhhhh, no offense to Meh but I’d never buy from here if I could get a similar price at Costco.

do these stack and fit ok in the silverware drawer?
@jmruru I don’t see why not. Sad to see the price on amazon has not been so high for long, just 3 days ago it was just $85! Still a deal, but deceptive.
I know there’s probably some etiquette class or book that could teach me what a salad spoon is and how to use it, but I still don’t think I’d pick up a spoon when looking down at a salad in front of me. @warpedrotors fantastic historical recount! Not surprised the Colonel won!
@JWhirly @warpedrotors And the onion rings at BK are a violation of the Geneva accords.
This is great to see in the middle of looking for silverware and not being picky.
I just want to be clear, I didn’t want to buy this. As a 40 year old man who has never bought silverware from anywhere but a thrift store and takes some amount of pride in the variety in my cutlery drawer, I was bullied into buying by the price and quality.

Speaking of my silverware drawer, I’m guessing these might not stack very well
@richrauch stack the pieces on their side - it doesn’t matter with the knives. I’ve been adulting for longer than I care to think about.
Specs say 18/10 stainless and nickel free. Ummm, 18/10 means it contains 10% nickel. What in the hecks?
@whammoed they’re just saying that the nickel is included for free, no upcharge.
Two huge question marks for me:
I’m going with no. They look really nice though if you’re willing to take a chance.
Oh. My god. I was 3/4 of the way back to my highest streak and somehow this item slipped past my radar. I’ve been so insanely busy this week I guess I just passed out before checking.
It’s such a tiny insignificant thing, but it pisses me off so much, I was so close to breaking my record…
@PooltoyWolf Condolences.
These are quite nice, the utensils have a nice feel in the hand and are well balanced. They seem to be very nice quality, and stack just fine.
If they come up for sale again or are available on a sister site they’re worth buying at the $60 range or so.
Way too high of a flatware turnover in my house. “Wasn’t me” fairies take utensils one by one. Definitely isn’t my 5 tweens-20 something’s.
