@Pufferfishy That worked out very well for one artist. Listening to the Wooters telling him to “take your dreck elsewhere” has been the greatest decision he ever made.
Actually, this is the cutest one yet.
not my style, but actually cute
(My daughter got me one for Christmas that says:
“I love the smell of socially acceptable chemical dependence in the morning”
Font is not bold like most t-shirt fonts, so it makes it more unique. And well I loves it."
@Cerridwyn@jst1ofknd yes. Vacuum coffee brewer. I think it’s the coolest way to brew coffee. Almost cool enough for me to start drinking coffee. Almost.
And yep @jst1ofknd one of the best coffee makers to just sit and watch, especially the ones that still use flame and not a heat lamp of sorts, or electricity
@jst1ofknd@Oneroundrobb cold brew is cool to drink, but not to watch (yeah, I know you were being funny) unless it is a Kyoto dripper, then as long as you have hours, it can be interesting it it’s way, or at least artisitic.
siphon, aka vacuum, is not new, either, it’s been around for a ton of years.
@sammydog01 As he explained it, his painting was a representation of a pipe, not a pipe. You couldn’t put tobacco in it and smoke it, so it wasn’t a pipe.
I already bought a Meh tee this week. I don’t even know which one it was.
I love this, even being a dog person. I guess it reminds me of this one day I was at a park in the “hipster” part of town and a guy strolls by wearing a pot on his head and a label on the pot read: “this is not a pot.” Not that I loved that experience in extreme hipstering, but this shirt does elicits a chuckle.
One of my favorite Woot shirts also referenced the pipe. I ran across a discussion that it was reprinted without the text, probably because too many people didn’t get or appreciate the joke.
The draw of Meh has always been the unpredictability of the strange products with cheap prices. A day dedicated to tee-shirts is quickly distroying the draw.
@hchavers Strange products – like speaker docks, knives, Bluetooth keyboards, Bluetooth speakers, Bluetooth headphones, candy corn, fidget spinners, off-brand batteries, and combinations thereof?
I much much much rather see shirts instead of more of the above.
If you said meh logo shirts, it’s a point. There has only been 1.03 times that meh has sold catshirts, though. And that .03 time wasn’t even fulfilled by meh.
We got sued by the Geisel estate for doing a parody on OJ Simpson called the Cat Not in the Hat, and they got us on the hat as copyright infringement. Still shell shocked, so I wouldn’t go near anything that looked like their hat.
The short version in plain English the publishing and distribution companies tried to argue that parody use protected them from copyright infringement. The court ruled the only thing that was a copyright infringement was the use of the hat.
Well lookee here.
Thanks @dave and @snapster for running with this. Looking forward to reading all the comments and assuming the negative ones are about someone else.
I really like this shirt and would buy it…except I don’t wear light colored t-shirts for multiple reasons (they don’t look great on me, any tomato based product within 20 miles will end up on my shirt, I’m not good about remembering to coordinate undergarments, etc.). Any chance we could get this design on something darker?
Looks like we are divided into people who got this right away and people who haven’t had it explained yet. (Yeah, I had help.) So there’s this thing by Magritte:
@catthegreat Start off a line in a comment with “/giphy your-order-here” and a random giphy that may or may not make sense will be posted. As an example:
What the fuck Meh. I like the shirts but this one doesn’t even make sense. I get both references but combining them is PeNgU1N oF d00m level “le random”
I was curious if this is copyright infringement. Found this lawsuit that is pretty hilarious! Someone wrote a book about the OJ case titled The Cat Not In the Hat. They lost the lawsuit as it was not considered parody. https://www.imaginelaw.com/cat-in-the-hat-parody-infringes-on-seuss.html
I think they’d be hard-pressed to make a case against this shirt, since it’s just a simple reference and not copying the style of the book or the look of the Cat.
Really wishing this came in men’s XS NLA offers it, even on the size chart, but nope… alas anyone with experience with this shirt vendor know if the women’s style has absurdly short sleeves?
It’s a digital image of a shirt printed with the drawing of a cat with what most closely resembles a sock on its head but which will be interpreted as a hat by many due to the fact that the sock is located on the head of the cat as opposed to its foot, since, of course, cats don’t have feet and therefore are not in need of socks. Funny. Now, what about the art history? I regret that I ignored that class due to excess consumption.
Got mine delivered today. Props to the Meh team on a fantastic print! Excellent quality and the shirts are super-soft too! Thanks for doing me right, Meh!
This is such a nifty shirt! I thought it was nice when I ordered it, but the actual physical shirt just knocks my socks off. Ya done good on this one, Meh.

Also when is the official catshirtsmeh logo coming out?
@narfcake @shahnm
/giphy perverse lavender otter
@f00l @narfcake I know that dude! I met him on a trip to Alaska a few years ago. Here he is (pic taken from a whale watching boat).
Not for me, but could fit shirt.meh
Enough with the fricking tee shirts.
@Felton10 It’s Screenprint Sunday.
Cat got your tongue ? Hats off to u Meh
Geeze if only there were specialty website to sell your own t-shirt designs.
I guess Meh is living in 2004
@NoImNotNSA And if only it could be loaded with “cute” cartoon cat designs for 4 year olds and spinsters.
@NoImNotNSA Shirt.woot came about in 2007.
@Pufferfishy That worked out very well for one artist. Listening to the Wooters telling him to “take your dreck elsewhere” has been the greatest decision he ever made.
@NoImNotNSA wow, snarky much? Hahahaha
@Pufferfishy so you are saying @narfcake is a 4 year old spinster?
@Kidsandliz @Pufferfishy I presume there’s a missing digit there, since the answer is 42.
@Pufferfishy I don’t know what they teach the four year olds where you live, but I don’t think the ones around here would get the Magritte joke.
Congrats @ACraigL! Nice shirt! With a cat and everything!
Actually, this is the cutest one yet.
not my style, but actually cute
(My daughter got me one for Christmas that says:

@Cerridwyn Does the story of this gif include mention of why the old dude in the background forgot his shirt?
@Cerridwyn @shahnm I’m just happy he’s wearing pants.
@Cerridwyn
Is that a coffee maker?
@Cerridwyn @jst1ofknd yes. Vacuum coffee brewer. I think it’s the coolest way to brew coffee. Almost cool enough for me to start drinking coffee. Almost.
@Cerridwyn @Oneroundrobb
I would just watch it and dump out the coffee…
Well, the wife drinks coffee…
@Oneroundrobb balance syphon coffee makers are (slightly) cooler IMHO.
(Though there are better videos of them; sorry.)
@Cerridwyn @jst1ofknd @Oneroundrobb No the coolest way to brew coffee is cold brew.
/giphy rimshot
@shahnm giphy chooses what it chooses
And yep @jst1ofknd one of the best coffee makers to just sit and watch, especially the ones that still use flame and not a heat lamp of sorts, or electricity
@jst1ofknd @Oneroundrobb cold brew is cool to drink, but not to watch (yeah, I know you were being funny) unless it is a Kyoto dripper, then as long as you have hours, it can be interesting it it’s way, or at least artisitic.
siphon, aka vacuum, is not new, either, it’s been around for a ton of years.
I appreciate that the cat’s tail is pipe-stem-styled.
I don’t get it, but congrats @ACraigL.
@Stumpy91 Thank you for making me feel less dumb. I looked it up.
Free Meh shirts only for me.
@cengland0
Thank you!
@cengland0 @jst1ofknd But that is only half the joke, right?
/giphy this is not a joke
Nicely done @Acraigl
I’m a long time fan!
Nothing says “I buy unhealthy amounts of cheap shit on the internet” like a cute cat shirt… Still, as a dog person: Hard pass.
@Oneroundrobb I’ve had people ask me if a was a “cat person” or a “dog person”…I usually say that I don’t know, but I am not a “people person”
@Oneroundrobb Dog person here; likes catshirts.
Hopefully it helps strike up a conversation with an cute art major. Sold
OK, someone explained the Magritte pipe thing to me. I’m not buying another shirt I’m too stupid to understand. I already have one in the mail.
@sammydog01 As he explained it, his painting was a representation of a pipe, not a pipe. You couldn’t put tobacco in it and smoke it, so it wasn’t a pipe.
@craigthom Can you smoke a cat?
@craigthom @sammydog01
/image smoked cat
@craigthom @narfcake That image could have gone a couple of ways.
@sammydog01 I know. I was ready to delete my post if it was any of the other ways I was thinking it could have gone.
@craigthom @sammydog01 yes…but it’s hard to keep the door shut.
(I love cats. I’m just not sure what to serve as a side dish…)
@sammydog01 Someone? Like you were walking down the street and this dude in a trench coat said, “Let me tell you about the theory of representation?”
/giphy would you like to buy an o
@stinks Hey, I have friends.
@sammydog01 Dang. I kinda liked the image of the random, lone PhD delivering a knowledge drive-by.
I’m with Felton10… enough with the shirts!
@mcemanuel It’s Screenprint Sunday.
Getting this without the text is slipping the joke. Which I guess is ok for people who just want a cat shirt.
/giphy certain-circular-yoke
Doesn’t Craigl have enough Teslas?
@medz I lol’d
Got it with the text because what is the point without it?
/giphy nutty-frankly-titanium
@baqui63 Truly.
Even still, I’ll have to pass.
because cat shirts
side note, I can’t win with Giphy tonight with “curved-negligible-wood”
@riskybryzness
/image because catshirts
@narfcake It’s true. My cat knows I have no say in things.
Wish you guys would sell T-shirts more often.
One of my favorite Woot shirts also referenced the pipe. I ran across a discussion that it was reprinted without the text, probably because too many people didn’t get or appreciate the joke.
@craigthom Those dummies.
That one’s actually good! Combining the two references makes sense there, unlike here.
Congrats on the print @acraigl !
@hchavers @narfcake Hmm, seems like artsy-fartsy cat shirts could jump right in that pool with nary a ripple.
@hchavers @macromeh Because meh has sold a lot of catshirts before?
If you said meh logo shirts, it’s a point. There has only been 1.03 times that meh has sold catshirts, though. And that .03 time wasn’t even fulfilled by meh.
Merci, messieurs Mehgritte
Aujourd’hui, la Belge est encore plus fière de toi
Ceci n’est pas une chemise.
T’as raison
My brother would take issue with the write-up.
Good job, but this shirt is a little too twee for me.
Yertle the Turtle. And I’m not a fan of meh getting into shirts this often.
@mistamoose If only Mediocre Corp. had a site set up to sell t-shirts…
@mistamoose @therealjrn Mediocricatshirts!
I think a more accurate translation would be “this is not a cat inside the hat.” But who cares?
The Magritte reference got me. Even though I know I’m going to have to explain the French to ninety-nine percent of those who see me in my new shirt.
@Lighter Just explain it in french. (And use exaggerated hand gestures.)
My vote is to have t-shirts for sale on meh.com limited to a maximum of once a month. /
@Mburde thrice. Thrice monthly is three time better (ish) than once monthly. Trust me, I’m an engineer and a mathmetician.
@Mburde @nostrom0
Is “four (ish) and sometimes five (ish)” better than “three (ish)”?
I like “four (ish) and sometimes five (ish)” mee-self, but I’m just a @f00l (ish).
Not for me but is a quality design!
Meh legal team went on vacation the first of December I bet and won’t be back until Feb. 7. Damn worthless lawyers.
@dino2269 Feb 7, 2045
@dino2269 Yeah I want a paid vacation that will last from last month until early 2045.
I like this shirt. I don’t wear graphic tees though and don’t think my kids would get it… But I do like this shirt. Meh did well this time.
We got sued by the Geisel estate for doing a parody on OJ Simpson called the Cat Not in the Hat, and they got us on the hat as copyright infringement. Still shell shocked, so I wouldn’t go near anything that looked like their hat.
@Felyne Pictures (pixelated is fine) or it didn’t happen.
/giphy pixelated image
@Felyne @stinks Here, in legal goobilygock and full of double negatives, run on sentences and big words is the legal ruling:
https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/F3/109/1394/516484/
The short version in plain English the publishing and distribution companies tried to argue that parody use protected them from copyright infringement. The court ruled the only thing that was a copyright infringement was the use of the hat.
The copyright has not yet run out.
@Kidsandliz @stinks illustrator, the author was Alan Katz
@Felyne @stinks meant to include trademark infringements too, not just copywrite. Also to use them you need a licensing agreement.
Well lookee here.
Thanks @dave and @snapster for running with this. Looking forward to reading all the comments and assuming the negative ones are about someone else.
@ACraigL Negative comments can be redirected to the goat.
Does that kind of look like a pipe?
@ahoffmann Imagine that
@ahoffmann It’s definitely not a pipe
I really like this shirt and would buy it…except I don’t wear light colored t-shirts for multiple reasons (they don’t look great on me, any tomato based product within 20 miles will end up on my shirt, I’m not good about remembering to coordinate undergarments, etc.). Looks like we are divided into people who got this right away and people who haven’t had it explained yet. (Yeah, I had help.) So there’s this thing by Magritte:
@craigthom explained it like this:
@sammydog01 And it isn’t soup either. Or a sandwich
Oh, shirt!
/giphy crooked-impossible-thought
Great design, @ACraigL. You forced me to purchase 2.
/image uneasy-painful-pudding
/giphy I am not a cat
/giphy I don’t have a hat.
@ACraigL nice job. Hope meh pays better than woot.
This is not what the cat in the hat is called in French. Not sure if that makes this even more genius or what… https://www.amazon.com/Chat-Chapeaute-Cat-Hat-French/dp/2266119184
I’m in. Love the design. Not thrilled with shirt color - hello naked shirt.
/giphy musty-negletful-stick
i’m a n00b (does anyone say that anymore?) - how do i find the giphy of my order ? i know, it’s basic…
@catthegreat Start off a line in a comment with “/giphy your-order-here” and a random giphy that may or may not make sense will be posted. As an example:
/giphy formidable-dodging-kitten
/giphy blighted-cold-pilsner
@catthegreat Yep, you got it!
/giphy not a cat
/giphy grainy-misanthropic-ring
@mehmerized I never get cool giphy’s.
@mehmerized Editing and resaving the post will pull up a different giphy.
Wait, is the text-less version for mimes?
What the fuck Meh. I like the shirts but this one doesn’t even make sense. I get both references but combining them is PeNgU1N oF d00m level “le random”
Well it certainly isn’t astroglide either now is it
I was curious if this is copyright infringement.

@sarxws That someone is here on this thread too.
@djslack Thanks for letting me know!
@djslack @sarxws With pending litigation from ToysWereUs
So fucking pretentious…
I love it. Need to buy kids sizes…
I don’t get it but think it’s really cute. Could someone (nicely) explain it to me if you get a minute?
@moonhat
https://meh.com/forum/topics/ceci-nest-pas-un-chat-dans-le-chapeau#5c321092630f21008afb7eca
Great for the crazy cat people !
No kids’ sizes?!
@SaintO @njd No kids sizes. Clothing intended for kids have to be CPSIA certified – not a cheap or quick process for the low volume here.
Really wishing this came in men’s XS NLA offers it, even on the size chart, but nope… alas anyone with experience with this shirt vendor know if the women’s style has absurdly short sleeves?

Um, that’s not “the cat in the hat”.
@gary566 Hey, you speak French!
@gary566 What? Cats don’t have feet?!?!?
@gary566 @unksol

@gary566 @unksol Must have been hungover for comparative anatomy, too.
Omg so many posts today
Le meh is what I say
It’s cray cray
What a Haiku… thanks I don’t deserve all the credit your mom also helped.
My wife is both a librarian and a cat lover (but I repeat myself). Totally getting her one for her birthday.
(Not sure about her feelings on surrealism, but I’m sure she’ll appreciate the reference.)
the story “parodied” in the write-up is not that of the shirt subject but instead oeufs verts et jambon
/giphy limber savvy game
Got mine delivered today. Props to the Meh team on a fantastic print! Excellent quality and the shirts are super-soft too! Thanks for doing me right, Meh!
Yep got mine yesterday and it is very nice. I like it a bunch
This is such a nifty shirt! I thought it was nice when I ordered it, but the actual physical shirt just knocks my socks off. Ya done good on this one, Meh.
I just got mine today - I had forgotten I’d ordered it! But it is really nice - my fave design so far.
