Catnip repels mosquitoes!
6Hey @lisaviolet Catnip repels mosquitoes! So not only are you growing cat bait in your backyard but you also have mosquito repellent for your cats out there. And apparently worked in the one human who rubbed it on his arm too.

What I want is a mosquito repellent that causes them to torch off, plummet to the ground, and shatter on impact.
@werehatrack Extended drought appears to be an effective solution to mosquitoes, but I wouldn’t recommend it. ~55 days so far with no rain (in freaking NW Oregon!) and not a mosquito in sight.

@werehatrack try a flamethrower

@jmkiii @PocketBrain @werehatrack Do the mosquitoes have to fly in slow motion for that laser to work?
@macromeh @werehatrack you must be near me! Im just outside of Salem.
@macromeh @werehatrack the larvae of mosquitoes live in water. Trouble is other insects and animals (for example frogs, bats) eat them so their food source is now scarce.
that’s nice to know. So, if we didn’t have the catnip, it would be way worse than it is.
Catnip may repel mosquitoes, but it draws cats. I’m pretty sure the last thing I want is for the neighborhood cats to turn my flowerbeds into a community toilet.
@ruouttaurmind I think @lisaviolet already knows all about that.
Actually though rubbing it on your skin to repel them is what the article said that one man did.

@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind Rubbing it on one’s skin isn’t really a good idea if one has cats who like catnip.
@lisaviolet @ruouttaurmind Hmm then you’d become the pied piper of cats. Either that or dinner.

Our cats will occupy us without it.
Oddly enough, growing catnip has not attracted every cat in the neighborhood. In fact. they pretty much ignore it until it dies back, dries up, and the attractive substance in it becomes aromatic. Then they’re attracted.
Head scientist Dr. F.E. Line today made a breakthrough announcement that Catnip repels mosquitos, ticks, Boogeymen, door to door solicitors, and mother in law’s. He encouraged everyone to replace their lawns with catnip fields.
